    King Arthur's Army -four-

The overused knife spiraled in a horizontal way, straight towards the beautiful stallion I rode to get here. I had to think quick. Unfortunately I was out of ideas and I saw the small knife spiraling towards the horse closer on every ticking second, everything felt like slow-motion.

    *kkk-chink*

That was the moment when I noticed how amazing Emery really was at archery.
Emery had the reactions to draw her bow, hit the knife with one of my arrows and save the horse.

Night had finally crept upon us. We departed off towards the Kings chamber. This time on the ride back Emery showed me some skills and tips for riding a horse.
When we got there I had to write some of my details upon the piece of paper for joining upon The King's Army.

[sorry for no medieval measurement units, Mum has changed the Internet password at time of writing]
    Name: Connor'O Dun
    Height: 167 cm
    Weight: 68 Kg
Skills: Hand-to-hand combat, small weaponry, swords and knife throwing.
Why: I want to fight for my country.

I obviously didn't want to fight for my country, I only wanted to join for Emery and a better life, but he doesn't have to know.

I handed the leather paper over signed and the King pocketed it into his beautiful, rich velvet clothes.

"You must keep what you do secret, unlike miss Emery. You first assignment will include helping Emery protect me, after my trip to King Arthur's City is expired we will leave and go back to Bline where I live and where the King's Army's headquarters are."

"Help Emery, then leave back to Bline, got it."

    "Now go rest."

"Thank-you your majesty, you will not regret this" I responded with the most respect I could with hold.

I said bye to Emery and she held me up. She explained to me that you don't sleep where you want, you have a given place to sleep and eat at. I was glad to have somewhere to sleep, my shack wasn't very inviting.

We arrived at the cities only hotel, only the very rich could stay here, the hotel was a very small facility and only had five or six rooms.

Emery ushered me towards my room, politely waved me off and we both went to bed.

I woke up and felt the sun beating on me through the small window. I sat up and dragged my body out of my bed wearing only my shorts from the last three days. I got dressed into my only other pair of clothes. The only way I can really wash my clothes is via a stream or a pond, so most if the time they stayed dirty.

I never really noticed what Emery was wearing, I could only ever focus on her stunning body.

I put on my spare shirt and walked outside towards Emery's room. I knocked on her door in a rhythmic tone. Nothing stirred on the other side of the door.

I walked around the hotel for a few long minutes.

Imagine a young girl screaming, well that's what I heard. Within no time I was on my feet and running towards the piercing noise.

Again I wrote this from my iPod, I should be able to start writing on a computer when I get my laptop back next week.

    Thanks for reading. :D

    All-in-One King Arthur's Army

I walk through the worn, old forest, only wielding my keen eye and a simple dagger. A twig snaps and I spin around brandishing my small dagger in an instant. Nothing. I keep on walking, cautious of any foolhardy animals or beings that might be creeping up on me.
I keep walking picking up the required pieces, slender straight sticks, hard medium sized rocks. All I have to do is get me some feathers. I slip past all the trees, without a sound. I find a good perch on top of an old yellowed mossy rock, it gives me a good vantage point to look over the trickling stream. I make sure I keep my gain hidden, out of sight.
All I hear next, is what I presume from years of hunting and gathering, is the sound of an animal yelping. The yelp sounded similar to when I put a knife precisely through a fox's neck. It shows how sly I can be, outwitting a fox!
I spin around and again see nothing. After a few seconds I hear a rich and luscious voice.
"What are you doing out here, collecting that highly poisonous moss for dinner?"
I recoiled in shock and fright. I had to regain my cool and after an exaggerated pause I replied with a simple,
    "Thanks"
It happened so quick, suddenly we started some gentle chatter, the next a massive bear was about to crush her. As I was talking to her a massive roar boomed over the forest and the frail trees let out their own scream of pain. I knew already, it was a bear.
Without thinking I ran, not away but towards the sound. I flung my dagger out of my pocket and ordered my newly found friend to hide. Like most woman she decided to disobey me and come running. That was the first time I noticed her bow and arrows slung lazily across her back.
Something you should know about me before we go on, you may have guessed I make arrows, but I can't actually use them. I sell them to King Arthur's army.
We both ran and she was already poised for battle, a nifty arrows ready to behead anything in it's path.
It finally came into view. I knew this bear only wanted lunch. It was massive, it roars again and it's shaggy, dirty metal like fur jiggle, like they are alive.
Without notice the bear started to run, blood stained mouth and all.
I knew running would be no good so I jumped onto a tree and scaled it. That was one of many things to ever go wrong for me. As soon as my palms and feet started banging along the tree I noticed it was hollow.
Crraaaaccckkkkk. The tree started to bend over and was close to snapping, at the last second I jumped before it completely snapped.
Lucky for me I tumbled out of the way from the monstrous tree. The bear, well it's luck wasn't to good. A small chunk of the tree snapped off and clipped him across the head.
I could tell the beast was extremely disorientated. Not disorientated to catch the girl who's name I didn't even know yet off guard. He started to gallop towards her as she looked the other way. She was about to be ripped apart by a jaw with a bite able to snap a perfectly strong and healthy tree in half.
If I yelled, she might not hear me, or respond to late.
    If I run I won't make it.
I was out of ideas. It sprung to me and I only had one chance. I steadied my arm and posed like someone who had been doing this all his life.
Fnnnt. The knife glided through the air, trickling in circles around and around I watched it not daring to move it look away.
    ROARRRRR.
all that practice payed off and I got the massive bear in one of it's least protected areas. It's neck.
The lady heard the bear roar in pain and the only then did she come back to the real world. In an instant she was already loaded her bow and within a few seconds had lodged an arrow through it's left eye.
    I told her,
"Looks like dinners going to be good tonight!"

On the way home I asked Emery how she earns her gold. She was reluctant to give up her identity and job. I finally pried the answer out of her, with my lady skills of course. She told me she works for King Arthurs army. Everyone knows them, they are the best of the best, (dumb cliché) if King Arthur is in danger these are the men an women that are called to defend and ultimately defeat the threat.

It was my turn. I explained to her what I do for my income. I craft, from scratch, arrows and then sell them. A lot of workmanship goes into the making of an arrow. I could make hundreds a day and make a fortune. I pried myself though, I spend lots of time and effort for each arrow. That's why they cost so much gold. I was curious, how highly regarded is my workmanship.
"Emery, mind showing me your arrows"
"Least I can do Connor" she responded with a her beautiful smile.
At that moment we arrived at my house and I invited her inside. She still scanned my home like she thought someone was watching. She breathed and complemented my run down shack just to be polite.

So I got back to the arrows.
What do you know, my signature peace symbol inscribed into the head of the arrow. I told her that I made that arrow.
She was astonished and tried to convince me that I couldn't do something this good. So, I showed her me making one of my arrows.

I pulled out my trusty dagger and sharpened it with my mineral rock.
I found a candidate and started to slice the stick down the shaft until I had a roughly accurate arrow stick.
I got a worthy rock and walked into my shack where all my equipment is stored and went to work on the stone with the battered rock grinder. I precisely groused the rock into a triangle arrow head then pounded a small circular hole just big enough to fit the stick inside.
With my home-made glue I smothered the end of the stick and inserted it into the rock. For extra strength I tied some twine around the head and the stick and tied a knot.
I cut three slits barely the width of the thin knife used and, again, with the glue I smothered a feather and squished it flush in the slit.
Then to finish it off, carved my special symbol into the head.

I showed Emery and she was astonished at my craftsmanship.
Now, I asked Emery if she would like some dinner.
"Gladly, after a day like today!"
I grabbed the bear out of my bag, well what was left if it, I decided to share the bear with some of the people on the outskirts of the town.

I cooked up some turnips, purple carrots, cabbage, and of corse the bear.
What nice bear it was. The bear was such a nice treat, I barely have any meat because making arrows is not the best way to make money as a merchant.

"Thanks for that dinner, I shall now continue my journey, bye"
I had already attached towards this girl and she was leaving, so without thinking, I responded,
"Let me come, I have no money, making arrows is boring, I want to get out of here, this poverty and come and fight for King Arthur!"
She looked at me straight faced,
"Pack your bags, I'll see what I can do"
    I just stood there dumbfounded.
I grabbed what little I had and just left everything else. I knew this girl no longer than a day and I'm venturing with her into the wild.
I asked Emery why she took me on board,
"Because Conner, you are one talented man and we need someone like you, you saved my life!"
"So what do I have to do to become apart of the Kings army?"
Don't worry, I will handle that.

I never really made my way throughout out where I lived. Besides most of city just being creepy with beggars littering the streets, I just didn't have the time. Today was going to be different. Emery walked me up the hand chiseled steps of the city hall of King Arthur's City, obviously because the architect of the town was lacking inspiration and creativity when naming the city. Despite the name King Arthur did not populate the town, and probably didn't know it existed. That thought was torn out of everyones heads when the King expressed his 'love' for our town and took a holiday for a fortnight.

I started to get the feeling that Emery was King Arthur's body guard, then what was she doing in the woods, was it fate, accidental or was she looking for me? I pushed that thought aside and played along with the trip to the hall.

Emery skipped pass all of the supposed town 'knights' with the occasional curtesy and walked inside the town hall.

Emery knew exactly where the King of Bled [see if you can figure out how I came up with the country of 'Bled' guess correctly and I will (try) to incorporate your game name into the story] was situated, that basically confirmed my theories on Emery being bodyguard.

She opened up the door and a rich voice bellowed,
    "Hello, who is it?"
I followed Emery inside and I was astonished to be upon the King of my country. Even though he is a fat slob that cares for no one else, I payed utmost respect and listened intently.
Emery asked me to wait outside for a second.
So took myself outside and waited a few minutes until I heard her luscious voice usher me back inside. King Arthur then asked me a question, a question that bewildered me.
"Would you, Conner like to fight for your country along King Arthurs men!"
It took a few seconds for my brain to even comprehend the scope of the question. I rattled all my distant thoughts out and focussed on the question.
It didn't take long; a life a riches, wealth, fame and the occasional close encounter with death or sitting in a run down shack with little food grinding rocks and sticks down.
"I will fill out my duties to my uttermost best your majesty, just one thing."
    "Yes Conner?"
    "Why me?"
"You have the reactions like a rabbit. You are as sly as a fox along with being as precise as a hawk, you will be gladly welcomed and most importantly you saved my daughter from death!"

Before you get to start battling foes, we need to see your skills, your reactions and how you 'play'.

The king was escorted by carriage while Emery and I rode a horse together. We arrived at the destination, a small paddock on the outskirts of a developing forest. As the sky tinted orange from the approaching darkness the King told me to show him what skills I posses.

I pulled out my so ever loyal dagger a poised it for a throw at some defenseless prey. The first thing I spotted, a small rabbit, from it's dirty and ragged hair I presumed it was a boy.

    I chucked it with ease.
The small but lethal dagger twirled in the air reflecting specs of, now dark, orange sun light into an array of directions.

    *shnt*

The knife dislodged into the Rabbits right eye with extreme precision. The king went over towards the rabbit and put on a set of gloves and inspected the rabbit.

    "Magnificent!"

The knife had barely damaged any meat, even with the knife protruding out if the eye at least 15 centimeters.
Emery walked over grinning. That grin soon turned to disgust as she noticed parts of the eye started oozing out.

I threw a few more and performed some of my basic one-on-one grapples and tricks on an assistant body guard.

I started getting cocky and performing tricks as the moon crept up into the sky.

As the knife exited my hand, I knew it couldn't possibly end well.

The overused knife spiraled in a horizontal way, straight towards the beautiful stallion I rode to get here. I had to think quick. Unfortunately I was out of ideas and I saw the small knife spiraling towards the horse closer on every ticking second, everything felt like slow-motion.

I walked around the hotel for a few long minutes.

Imagine a young girl screaming, well that's what I heard. Within no time I was on my feet and running towards the piercing noise.

ran around the corner and saw arrows protruding out of a homemade archery target. 90% of the arrows in the centre bullseye. I looked around for the source of the scream and I saw Emery standing there with a big grin brandishing her mouth.
I asked her if she had heard that scream.
"The only scream around here was mine, I split an arrow in half by shooting it with another one, I was so excited I screamed like a little girl!"

I sighed of relief and smiled back. I looked at her uniform and pondered wether I would be granted a uniform to.

"Do I got a uniform to?"

"Thanks for reminding me, we better go get you one!"

Emery walked me a few hundred meters towards the outskirts of the small city. We arrived at the towns brand new stables where the Army's equipment was stored along with horses and carriages.

Emery pulled out a bronze key and rattled a chest open with some miscellaneous objects, some things that were contained; uniforms, extra food, some horse shoes, tools and some basic equipment for survival.

Emery pulled out a uniform that she guessed was about my size.
I went around the corner not wanting her to drool over my stunning body and got changed.

    "How does it feel?"

"It fits quite snug, maybe a bit loose around the waist but it feels good to actually have some real clothes!"

We both laughed, locked up the chest and departed towards the hall. Today the King was opening a new bakery which very little would be able to buy from, again the king only helping the wealthy.

Emery told me some of the basics to bring; water, weapon, some small armor and alertness. I grabbed my small dagger, a medium sized sword, a put on a small leather breastplate underneath my new uniform and a hand crafted rope with small weights patterned along the length.

We headed off to the entrance of the town hall and we were greeted by the city guards and the King.

Two other anonymous foot soldiers accompanied the King's escort. These soldiers had broad shoulders, lot's of chain armor and evil in their eyes. I didn't feel to comfortable around them, I decided to keep an eye on them.

As we walked to the town centre I saw one of the men lift his arms into a fist and it looked like he was going to slam them right into the King's head.

Without thinking I jumped towards him and took the hefty man out by the waist. Everyone stopped and looked towards me with a puzzled look.

The man got up and kept his cool while whispering obscenities under his breath towards me.

The King asked me why I did that, I tried to explain to him I only meant good, I said it looked like he was going to smash you across the head with his fists.

The King made his way towards the man and interrogated him, the man tried to act innocent and say there was a bug on top of his head.

    The king was buying it.

The man didn't know that and started sprinting towards the woods. Luckily those are the woods that I have explored almost every day since I could walk.

Emery and I took off weaving between the relentless trees. I knew Emery had a good aim but she kept hitting the trees, almost as if on purpose.

I thought now would be a good time to use that rope, just before I threw it one of Emery's arrows whizzed at an extremely fast speed over the mans left shoulder.
I had never thrown the rope before so my aim was off and the rope with attached weights sailed over his head and hit the tree in front of him.

The run-away looked around and my stare burrowed into him and he staggered for a second.

    SMASH!

The tree that my rope had hit was coincidentally the one hit by Emery's flying arrow, that accompanied by years of wear the tree crumbled, weakened and fell just missing the man.
The tree was just enough to drift the man and he missed a fallen log under some undergrowth.

We were on him in seconds. I pulled the rope out if the now fallen tree and expertly tied his hands together.

I looked around and noticed the other guard was no where in sight. I yelled at Emery,

"THE KING, WHO IS PROTECTING HIM!?"

We both cursed. Emery volunteered and ran out if the aging forest and into the city.

She ran into the town centre, the King was gone!
Part five is in there at the bottom.

Yes, I just remembered, do you guys want a plot like mindless battle scenes? In the plot I am thinking of betryal and shit and a full blown war starts with massive battles gut gore, then there will be someone major dieing in the final scene.

Think if the first five parts as the epilogue.

1 year latter- J----- C---- is renowned book writer, the most famous up to date, King Arthur's army. Lol. :P

  12. I like the writing, Ghozt! I can see real talent in your writing; with some honing I reckon you can become a master of the craft. I'm thinking of starting up a "Writer's Apprenticeship" thread on this forum, like we have on the Bay 12 forums, where people who like to write, read, and critique can join in and help. What do you think?

(I'll link the thread to you so you can have a look. I'm a qualified writer; whilst I've not yet been published, I have friends in the Australian publishing industry, and I've been told my writing is quite good at evoking emotion.)
This forum's own Tiruin is a mentor on the thread, as am I. :D

@Lord, that sounds interesting, I'm not to goodbat writing and English though, so I wouldn't be much use.

  14. Oh, you don't need to mentor. I am merely asking to see if people would use such a thread. :P

    King Arthurs Army - part 5 -

Part five, I am currently in the middle of writing part 6 from a computer this time!

I ran around the corner and saw arrows protruding out of a homemade archery target. 90% of the arrows in the centre bullseye. I looked around for the source of the scream and I saw Emery standing there with a big grin brandishing her mouth.
I asked her if she had heard that scream.
