    Unrelated - thanks for keeping the discussion up. Even though I am not posting here, I am keeping track of what you guys say and will definitely be rereading this as I get closer to implementing stats.


    Sounds like a reasonable option - what are peoples' thoughts on this?

    One of the nice things of KAG is that you can play without worrying about your stats. It is just personal opinion, and I mostly have a very good KDR, but still I wouldn't like to feel pressed to improve it.

    Besides, KDR means absolutely nothing. Take an offensive builder as an example. Offensive builders may be the characters that most influence victory for their team, but would leave the battle with what could be considered a "bad reputation". Now take an archer that sits in a tower with quarters and kills one enemy every five minutes. He was the worst waste of space for the team, but would leave with the stats of a "hero".

    I believe it should be optional for every account to let server/s track your stats. So whoever wants to care for their KDR can, and whoever doesn't is free to opt out.

    If KDR tracking couldn't be turned off, it would change gameplay greatly. We can expect to see much more archers, much less offensive builders and knights, and much more spawn camping. It is easy for one team to hold the flag indefinitely while that happens. Add people switching to the side with more "pros" and you will find noob-grinding matches. I'd certainly stop volunteering for balancing teams, and would be far from being the only one.

    In conclusion, KDR is a worthless stat and tracking it would make it even more devoid of value, at the same time frustrating some players. But take it just as my opinion.

    They aren't, it's simply the fact that people will be scared to die when it can mean still getting the flag cap, and flag caps are vastly superior to kills. It's not a problem for skilled players or smart players, it's a problem for the general idiots you have on your team being completely useless and having more 4+ hour games that you could have one in 20 minutes.

    im peretty sure i will still be that derp builder who charges into battle and ights with my hammer and tries to murder knight but fail miserable. ^^
    the changing of gameplay looks like it wouldnt annoy me much. the game will seem to be much easier having to deal with less offensives but more frustrating as well ie archer spam. this gameplay will make tunnels even more viable option
    tracking it would be fun to look at. i would like it if it viewed the top 10 highest ranking players or something. maybe it could reset every week

    I want a stat for time holding the flag, or number of times the flag was retrieved from the other base by one person. Having the stat for flag caps is going to be disastrous. You are going to deal with the same spiteful assholes who only care about their own stats, and you can be damned sure that they will fight over who caps the flag at the end, possibly losing the flag as a result.

    I've literally already seen this on servers which let an entire team take possession of the flag simply by touching you.

    Likewise, on servers that have locked possession of the flag, you have the people that simply won't cap, and insist that all lives be taken instead.


    The way I see it, you're essentially saying you have a problem with noobs in KAG.

    A certain server already has KD tracking, though he doesn't want to release to the public yet due to some glitches. Anyways it was fun for a while but then it becomes annoying after a while when you just want to dick around and go hammer everyone. After the annoying phase it becomes meaningless when you stop giving a shit.

    as i said before - im all for server (or community) stats and all against global stats

    why cant it work like that server. Set two variables to a player each time they join. one will track kills one will track deaths. they start at 0 and when someone gets a kill or death increases by + 1 but hey thats probably already happening. from my perspective it looks like people are switching spots when the kd bug happens rather of them getting kills/ deaths or losing them.

    Kills and deaths are already recorded on every server, in logs/playerstats or something.. It takes a little decoding but it's there.

    And I think only kills should be recorded, not deaths.

    Honestly I like having the deaths statistic. I'm not sure about everyone else, but it helps me know how I'm doing and if I should change the how I'm playing or not.
    If you don't want others to see your deaths, you could use something like what TF2 currently has, where kills is open information while player deaths are private.

    I'm not sure about what's been said before, but keeping track of wins vs. losses would help distinguish whether or not someone's play style is actually decent. That 0-10 builder may have caused 40+ enemy deaths from collapses and spike pits, but you would never know. Of course, with people being able to switch teams toward the end, this still isn't definitive, so those using this info to scout still need to test individuals.

    It might also be better to track what killed you/what you killed with, as well as the classes of both the killer and killed, but that would be moving around a lot of information and might be too much to handle. The example before of hammer kills is fine, but if you see that the person uses builder a lot and has died far more times to swords and arrows, then you know they might just be a derp builder and not some ultra-aggressive offensive builder (or someone just trying to get the highest hammer kill count for that matter).

    Which isnt that good either.
    I must still have TERRIBLE scores from back when I was a noob... that would mean that the ones that already know how to play will always have better scores.

    I dont want K/D in kag. I may die numerous times as a builder, maybe lets say 3 times in a row while I run forward and set up ladders helping our team immensely as at the time am the only offensive builder of the team. Adding K/D would punish this kind of teamplay, and as such produce worse games, in my opinion.

    I think it's already been said by a dev member, thy will not record deaths, only kills.
    Hoe many times must this be said :S

    EDIT; FLAB said this a while back in this thread.
    "The current plan is that we will not be reporting the number of deaths in the API (and not the KDR as well), because this will hurt gameplay as people strive only to protect their KDR (like what happened in Soldat when many servers started showing KDR-based stats)."
