On Language

I'll just start off saying that I have french ancestors and am from Canada, where french is our second language. Personally I don't speak french, but I like French people.

My problem is that the game has gained a large community of people who don't speak english, but join english speaking servers. This isn't a race/ethnicity/nationality thing. I love everyone. But if we don't speak the same language, we can't communicate.

I can't help team mates who are stuck.
I can't instruct noob villagers on proper building.
I don't know what my teammates are telling me, when they "SAY SOMETHING IN ALL CAPS"

It's hard enough keeping the team coordinated when everyone speaks the same language.

I don't know any other way to fix this than to politely ask that people only play in servers where they can speak the language. I don't mean any offense by it.

When the game has many more servers, this will become less of an issue.

If server owners want to be elitist, they can start kicking players who don't communicate and who are useless to the team. After all, server owners can do whatever the hell they want.

Si les propriétaires de serveurs voulez être élitiste, ils peuvent commencer à coups de pied des joueurs qui ne communiquent pas et qui sont inutiles à l'équipe. Après tout, les propriétaires de serveur peut faire tout ce que l'enfer qu'ils veulent.

 

Just too few servers, it almost like having different restaurants with different language bases, but thar only be 4 in the whole city!

Just wanted to say, it's currently not possible to speak with those people, even if English is a global language.

LOL imagine some random guy is telling you: "If you want to play on my awesome server you have to learn russian" or "...japanese" or "...zimbabvean" or... yeah.

 

Come on, at least a little bit of English. If someone destroys your stuff (not griefing, just for 'making it better') and you tell him 'no' or 'stop', he doesn't unterstand and continues it (already happened 4 times on English + French servers, where everyone speaked English). Btw, my main language is Romanian, then German.

Right. Anyone can freely speak his language or decide wich language he wants to speak, i can't really see the point of this thread...

It seems you're (ShaneHeres) annoyed by people speaking other languages. O.o

 

Strech, he's right due to the increased amount of non-English speaking players we cannot communicate with them. So how do you think the people who are able to understand the person speaking English feel when some guy is 'making the structure better' and unable to communicate in the most universal language?

 

I'm not going to ask someone to learn the language. I'm just theoretically going to say that only english people are allowed in my english server. What's wrong with that, as a server owner? They can join another server. (theoretically because I don't own a server.. yet)

I don't go to the french servers, even though they are popular, because I know it's only polite not to go in there not knowing a word of french to speak. It's a team game. Emoticons help, but chat is there for a reason too.

 

Hey, I'm the admin of the kag2d.fr (french) servers.

I know language is a big issue, and sometimes people get upset because they don't understand each other.

So I have 3 servers : 2 public and 1 french-only. Anybody can come and play on "Léviathan" and "Athéna". My rule is : speak English OR French. I don't want people to think I'm a nazi because I kick them...

Then we have a "Cerbère" server where only French people are allowed to play, and it's password-protected (the title of the server is "go read what's written on kagforum.fr to join us", and on the server there's a huge announcement saying where to find the password...). But nobody plays on it (there are less than 10 players on average), which means French people don't care if they play with english-speaking players on Athéna or Léviathan... or are too lazy to look for the password.

As for other admins and moderators, if you don't want French people on your servers, just kick them, it's your servers after all :)

 

That's what i'm saying, but everyone thinks I have a problem with french people or people who don't speak my language.

I don't have any problems dammit, I just think noone should whine if they get kicked by the server owner for not speaking english on an english only server. It is a perfectly legitimate kick.

 

I don't see the issue. Most of the English speaking people don't say anything worth reading, I actually prefer Frenchies as I can pretend that they're saying something intelligent.
