Hello. Tonight I played a little with SirSalami on official European RTDM server and told him about my (more or less) hidden hatred to KAG. Because we have a freedom of speech so I decided posting my thoughts here. Maybe someone will comment somehow.

    Here you go:

I play King Arthur's Gold since summer of 2011. I got charmed from the first try; those were the days of relative order, before The Great Noob Waves (1st French Wave, 1st and 2nd Polish Wave, 1st Russian Wave...) which turned the gameplay experience upside down. Days, when knights could destroy stone blocks with swords, none of collapsed blocks would think of bouncing and archers couldn't climb trees like monkeys...

I was the proud and loud KAG's herald all over the Internet till... Something was broken after Christmas 2011. To be precise, it was game mechanics. Fights, so skillful and nice in previous time of glory, started to be glitchy and laggy on never seen before level. Afaik, it was related with pushing 'Zombie Fortress' gamemode release or something like that.

The darkness came to the kingdom, most of brave fighters were leaving with their heads lowered... I also after some time stopped playing the game, discouraged greatly by the level of KAG's dysfunction.

After some time, the situation got balanced to the acceptable level. I'm still here (mostly thanks to the awesome people of BoW clan), but... There are things I dislike about King Arthur's Gold. At the same time, I still really like it (if I didn't, I wasn't posting right now). Let the list of hatred and praising begin!

    PROS
    - medieval style (simple but smart 3-classes system, castles, traps, CHAOS in public games like in real war and others)
    - smooth and fun gameplay
    - bugs are actually fixed here (from time to time)
    - Linux support (GNU/Linux isn't a platform with such good choice of games as Windows, so each Linux gamer is watching all freshly released games carefully)
    - some cool ideas (mostly in golden servers, like semi-stealth actions by night, kegs)

    CONS
    - bugs are fixed extremely rarely in short sessions (there are bugs reported like a year ago and still not fixed, some of those bugs are really annoying and making gameplay unstable/glitchy)
    - development is proceeding slowly (all things announced were introduced with huge delay, also, where are ballistas? battery rams? fire? where is all that cool shit?)
    - development way is constantly changing (and they finally decided to split it into KAG Classic and KAG Premium)
    - current development way is ridiculous (come on! after months of KAG development they decided to ditch it partially to make whole new KAG which won't have much in common with current game..)
    - Zombie Fortress mode was a big washout (we were promised incredible things and all we got is a boring and predictable survival)
    - builders are overpowered (they are meant to be workers and engineers, not miracle makers - actions like tombing, instacollapsing/trapping seems unfair)
    - gameplay isn't balanced by devs enough (look above for builders, but there are other 'problems' like double bombjump with parachuting allowing to travel through the whole map)

That's it. For the first time I play KAG I wanted to express somehow my opinion. Comment, criticize, pat me on the back.

He better hope that I don't see him in game then. I'm about 50-50 for targeting a specific archer and killing them with my boot when landing from a bombjump, and enjoy focusing attacks on people that rage from it. Also, they don't need to balance it, that's up for server owners to decide for themselves. There's a configuration to allow or disallow controlled descent when shielding up during a bomb jump, which more or less means that the bomb jumper is guaranteed to lose a significant amount of life upon landing (if not dying) when it's disabled.

On top of that, what's up with these cons regarding the development process? The game is in beta alpha (according to the purchase page). As in development is in flux. And the scripting engine release/swap isn't ditching aspects of the game either, just replacing the way it runs and making it easier to change stuff. Do you even think about this stuff before posting? //Play nice Brandon... ~fbb

Wrong, he can (double) bomb jump, but he doesn't like it (that's why he turned of parachute when bomb jumping at bow training ground/frosty trunk).
Wrong, he isn't archer only, he's a good one though, he also plays as builder and knight, depends on the match

Actually... The thing is: you have to build tower high to the upper border of the map to prevent bombjumping. Or disable parachuting on bombjump, which nerf bombjumps greatly and makes them much more fair (unfortunately, most of server hosters do not decide to set it on, however for some time it was disabled by default).

When you are promised one thing, and get another one you didn't want, you can get pissed off, right? Especially when you payed for the end product. I understand it was alphafunding, but sometimes I think that it goes too far.

Also, I'm not sure are you aware of fact, Brandon816, that new KAG won't be simply replacing current game. It'll be another game existing along current KAG, which will be called 'Classic' from now. And while the new KAG (which I didn't even want in moment of purchasing the game in 2011) will be updated and polished, with different gamemodes and possibly WITHOUT modes like CTF or RTDM (because they weren't announced anywhere), Classic will be treatened like older, unwanted child. Other downside of that? New KAG will be only for people who payed for game. No more interaction between free/premium account owners.

SirSalami partially calmed me down when he told me, that they still plan on supporting Classic (at least partially...).

I agree with all these things.

    • Bomb jump is way too easy even for casual gamers. You can travel the whole map with just a bomb to get the flag... Builders can rape knights in close combat and it doesnt really sound funny.
    • The dev teams got some nice ideas with the zombie mode for example but most zombie servers are now empty and this mode isnt really funny with more than 4 players.
    • I was so excited about new siege weapons and fire. Imo, it could have changed the whole gameplay and bring some azzzction.
    • Geti doesnt like new heads but players like to be unique. Just few new custom heads per bug fixes patch could have been cool to get a lot of different players. Its not really hard to do imo and it can bring more diversity.
    • I started playing in nov 2011 and now i get bored while waiting for a new whole game while other indie games are growing faster.
Btw, im still here helping others players and i find the last video promising.

It's true that I haven't thought much about this, but I do agree with most of your points.

I'm afraid of the split community between Classic and Full KAG. The gold player base already seems a bit low. But who knows, maybe they'll surprise us.

people say you can travel entire map on bomb jumping, the maps you play on must be small. you say it is so easy yet barely anyone does it (as i see). also consider how much money is wasted to bomb jump 20 for a bomb then you likely have lost a heart or you've killed yourself losing the rest of the money
    >so called problems with game
is machine gun bow not a problem any more?

Any experienced knight can do a double bomb jump to behind the enemy base. The problem lies however getting out of the base with the flag which is nearly impossible and basically only occurs with the enemy team's incompetent builders making ladders everywhere.

Love how most of the complaints are about development.

Srsly dude? Srsly? We were promised some things like siege machines or fire since the game development started. And then zombie mode popped out of nowhere (it wasn't planned in the beginning at all!). And other _USELESS_ things popped out of nowhere ('let's give them kegs, daycycle and maybe wood, that'll shut them down for a while').

And you _CANT_ say that totally ignoring bugfixing for the most of time is something not worth mentioning...

Well, I'm not trying to say that the development wasn't a bit haphazard at first, but the game was in such an early stage and the engine wasn't suiting their needs at all. If you signed up that early for premium, you can't really complain, since by buying it you essentially agreed to take whatever comes in the future instead of waiting to see how it turns out.

And now they're changing the engine, (and clearly making progress) which will make the game better overall, proceed towards the final product we've all been waiting for, and eliminate tons of bugs... what I'm saying is, now is not the time to complain - they're already on the track that will lead to the fixing of all of your grievances. So just sit back, relax, and enojy the upcoming release. If you like it, play it, and if you don't like it, modders will probably tear it apart and stitch it back together in a hundred new ways anyway.

In all seriousness, everything Nighthawk said is true and I agree with.
