If it's designed right I suppose. I don't know what the author thought when he wrote this, it's just ridiculous even compared to modern cities. It is just highly impractical and not cost worthy at all. Not to mention his prediction was definitely wrong.

I wouldn't call it impractical, at least at the basic concept. Tiers of streets would certainly ease congestion in tightly packed cities.

Oh I didn't mean it wouldn't be useful, just imagine the costs to build it. Not to mention the consequences of closing roads for who knows how many years to build tier after tier all structurally sound. Who knows how disastrous it would be if such a thing collapses as well...

@Rainbow: Where did you find this anyways?

Closing roads? Why? You're building a distance away from the road, into the air. You should be able to set up scaffolding that prevent any danger to people driving below. Building elaborate structures like this only seems impractical now..., but in the future I think we will have a lot more money, better technology to build and a need to tightly pack living spaces as the world's horizontal living space dwindles. It may or may not be before we terraform another planet in space to live on, and it may or may not be after the planet has been entirely industrialised. Vertical farms already exist in places in the world.
