Day 5 went ahead yesterday after a long long day of uni.

I realise making a post about news coming is a little anticlimactic, but I’m snowed in with university work at the moment and MM is preoccupied with giving a talk this weekend, so I’ll do it justice once my schedule is more clear.

Synopsis is that CTF Shops are under way, with most of the art and probably 40% of the code for them done. After they’re working and integrated with the builder there will just be the GUI production, Map making and lots of playtesting to do before it’s public. :^)

Here’s the shop art so far - Knight, Builder, Archer, Boat and Vehicle shops shown. The transport tunnel will also be present.

I’m considering leaving technology progression out of CTF entirely to keep the mode as simple as possible, I’d be interested to know people’s opinions on that approach. Otherwise tech progression would be based on “upgrading” each shop with one special tech item with no “research” building.

What about these little guys :migrant:. Also I like the shop upgrade system. Gold would be able to upgrade to the next tier similar to the demo shop in classic.

Also in the archer shop you should have the little target practice thing

Also it would be nice if the shops were made by unpacking crates like in the older beta builds. I loved that feature

Migrants aren't in CTF.... they are in zombies which will get working after CTF and other things I presume hopefully

That was in Alpha (The image) when you upgraded a arrow shop to a archery stand... dont think there going back, personally I like the way how they take what they had before and change it, give it a different look, works diffrently so we are not taking a step backwards and moving forward

That feature isn't that bad, so you can place things more organized I guess, dont think it would be of a big change to the game imo

The floating just looks a bit weird and I can't think of a way to prop a bow up unless it had hooks in the back. The crate thing is just a cool mechanic that wouldn't hurt the game and make things less simple.

Keep in mind the sprites are not done.

Indeed, they should have a stone wall background for one.

    I didn't understand the Knight/Builder/Archer shops.

They can change your class, or they make tools for each class like bombs for knights, arrows for archers and act like a workbench for builders?

if classic is anything to go by (it most likely is), then the class shops are for swapping classes.

    I agree!

I also think there should be 2 swords crossed behind the shield in the Knight shop.

    Oh!
Thanks, I played the classic version just once. ::(:

Re: They should have a background
They do, of actual tiles ingame. If I painted in the background you couldn't see if the tiles in behind were wood or stone. These are just the sprites for the actual shop layer, so there's no "floating bow" issue. Sorry for not being clearer with this but I figured it would be better to present the sprites as they are.

    Re: What are they for
They allow changing class if you aren't of shop's class, and buying items for that class if you are. For example you can think of the knight shop as a mix of the knight class change shop from ZF in classic, plus the bomb and demolition shops from classic.

    Re: Upgrading
is there a consensus that that would be better? I'm still leaning towards just having all the items available with "better" items costing more at the moment to keep it simple - but upgrading could lead to deeper strategic choices. I'm also concerned about the implications for the GUI with another button for upgrading, but maybe it could be put into the "buy" menu.. I'm honestly not sure at the moment.

Will you used coins to spend at the shops, if so how will the builder get coins. Will he get kills from builder only weapons(such as the mortar thing that nkking suggested) or building/mining. Will the builder even be able to buy stuff. If not will the builder shop just be a class change and a workbench(lame).

I dunno about a 'consensus', Geti, but I honestly can't see a problem with having shops that can be upgraded to access better items. It allows for strategic placement of upgraded shops & makes for "prime targets" when a knight/archer manages to get into an enemy base.

If you're worried about GUI clutter then just use the space that the better item(s) will occupy as the 'upgrade' button.

My guess is the builder gets coins by mining and chopping trees like alpha, the pickaxe has really been nerfed and a builder has 10% chance of killing anyone unless its another builder. I assume the shop for builder might have the boulder, crate, lantern etc.
The way builders get money will be probally the same as in alpha since builders are somewhat weak in-action

    I have 2 more questions!

I realy liked the boats and vehicles, they will appear just on CTF, or they will also appear in TTH?
    ---
The boat shop will produce every kind of boat os just longboats?(Same question for the vehicle shop with catapults)

Well, I don't know how you are going about the "Change to \x\" Button, which I would think would be the larger issue.
For the "Upgrade Button", maybe it can be a large button on the bottom of the "Buy \y\" dialogue, the bottom row, if anything.
In Alpha, Buying/Upgrading was done in the same pie menu with pretty defined icons, and captions.

And to tousle with semantics, it would be Knight Shop = {"Demo Shop" + "Knight Stand" from Alpha}, so the archer shop would be roughly {"arrow shop" + "archer stand" from Alpha}.
I don't know about the builder, you could change into a Builder from the Tents, Beds, Outposts, and Combat-Class-Specific Stands if you weren't a Builder, there was no Builder Stand at all.

Past that, what happened to the notion of needing "New Meat for Test Servers", Geti?
    ---
Seladur- Seemingly, you just buy packed boats from the boat shop. :/
