What I have noticed is that servers set up to help teach players how to play the game and the solo campaign really don't help teach new players how to play the game. Challenge servers really are not that challenging and don't do anything to help teach new players how to play. All you do is run to an objective while some wave is chasing you or kill a few easy bots, which, most of the time don't even attack you back.

With this new battle of the houses competition, a lot of the teams are taking time to help teach their members how to play better. Why not extend that to everyone who requests it?

What I think would be a good idea would be to get some more challenging challenge servers, or rather have dedicated training servers, and some dedicated mentors to help teach new players how to play.

Games like Team Fortress and Dota already allow experienced players to sign up as coaches that, on request, join a game that they are playing and teach them the ins and outs of the game. This is good for everyone who plays the game.

Giving players lessons increases the amount of fun the player receiving the lesson can have with the game, while also increasing the fun experienced players can now have by having teammates who actually can help you. It is a win-win situation!

I already know there are a lot of good players out there in the KAG community that would be more than willing to help teach others how to play.

As for the challenge servers/training servers. Creating new maps that teach players the more difficult mechanics of the game would be really helpful. Maps that can teach knights how to bomb/double bomb jump to reach their objective. Maps that can teach archer how to grapple, create arrow ladders, bomb and set fire to structures. Maps that can send large waves of bots to a flag so that builders can better learn how to build and create successful traps. That kind of stuff really can help the community.

The best part is, it would be fairly easy to do all of this. Simply creating a dedicated group of coaches that players can call upon in game is easy. As for the server side of things, maps would be easy to make and easy to run.

This has been tried a few times already and fallen flat each time, I wish you success though. Got a feeling you're more likely to get views and motivated contributers on this after COTSK is over.

    Bumping this thread.

Since COTSK is at some sort of pause, I would like to bring this back up to see what people think.

As I said before in my original post, games such as Team Fortress and Dota have features where players can be summoned (on their own time) to help new players, and teach them how to play. I think KAG could do this too, smaller scale of course.

Geti has said that this has been tried before, but has not worked, I don't think it was tried post-steam release however. Setting up a community made group where instructional videos can be posted and lessons can be requested would be a good start IMO.

    Thoughts?
