So, every time I play, I often see a new person trying to use some gold they just mined to buy some bombs. This is an unfortunate side-effect of coins being gold-colored. I think we should change the current coins to look more silver-ish or otherwise (maybe bronze?). This would clarify to new players that you buy certain things with COINS and a few other things with GOLD. Thank you.

Hmm, Actually sounds reasonable. Silver coins sound pretty good actually.

I wonder if maybe we could also add some +# signs above players' heads whenever they pickup coins from dead enemies and otherwise? This might clear up the confusion that I had for several months on whether or not I should bother picking up the coins on the ground. Others may suffer this fate as well... or maybe I'm just stupid. Who knows?

It seems kind of sensible, but not as pleasing aesthetically. What if mined Gold was Iron instead? That makes ASSLOADS more sense to me-- why can't you trade in raw Gold [which holds its value anyway whether you've pressed it into coin or not], and why are you building catapult and ballista components using said soft, shitty raw Gold? Answer: You aren't, you're searching for Iron ore with which to do these things.

It could be a reddish ferrous brown, oh so slightly shiny, and simply be a matter of replacing the current Gold ore image and resource ammo counter image, so that King Arthur's titular Gold [coins] stay golden.

It just makes more sense to be building stuff out of Iron ore rather than hunks of raw gold. And that way gold coins will still stay the centre of King Arthur's Gold for all classes. If you're going to change something, better to make it the ore than the coins.

It's more like you buy parts for gold, scrubby.

...Buy parts from what? We're talking about ctf. There's nobody to buy parts from in ctf.

In TTH where there's the trader but no coins it makes sense for that ore to stay gold, but I don't know if this is possible in the game engine.

And I will miss that beautiful shiny gold color if it is switched to iron, but it still makes sense.

I think that there's just a black market that the builders go to. "Ya got the gold?" "Yea, now where's my warboat packed into a 2' x 3' crate?"

Silver coins are nice imo although I've never seen someone confuse coins with gold.

Usually noobs end up trying to buy bombs with gold, and then get confused and ask how to exchange gold for coins. They figure it out after like a minute or two. This isn't really that important, but eh.

I did get them mixed up the first couple times I played Builder. And it would just be sensible. Better to change something unnecessarily confusing than making new players "catch on eventually", they have enough of that to do already [e.g. not holding open team doors or not standing where allies are trying to build, which it seems a lot of players still haven't]

    It really isn't a problem.

    Coins are currency.

    Gold are items.

They are stored in two separate places. If they don't know that right off the bat, they figure it out right after they try to use gold to buy something.

Not worth the time. If they can't figure it out on their own right away, they are not old enough to be playing this game.

Pretty sure anyone at all not familiar with KAG, whether they're 20, 30, 70, 10, won't automatically understand when both are golden-coloured, shiny, and Coins are often described as "Gold" rather than "Coins", for instance: "A Bomb costs 25 Gold".
Getting raw gold and not being able to use it as a currency is hugely counterintuitive seeing as the most common connotation of Gold is its value to the layperson. No matter the age, you don't just pick up KAG's logic instantly.
Thus, it would be more intuitive to have Iron Ore rather than Raw Gold, and so it would be worth the small change. "Time" would only be a matter of changing the sprite in the inventory, object, and block.
In fact, it makes even more sense that Iron (Gold) Ore, only useful to the one class, would be one colour, while Coins, which are useful to all classes, would be another.

So, what about the people who now know what the difference between gold (item) and gold (coin) are.

If this change is made, don't all those people now need to learn the new system?

    Whether they're 20, 30, 70, or 10, they won't automatically understand the changes.
