Replacement for Soldat

So, long ago I was a Windows user and keen Soldat player. But then I moved to GNU/Linux. I hardly loved Soldat. I love it till today. But I cannot ever play it again, because it cannot be runned on Linux with Wine (it runs but performance causes it unplayable). And there aren't any plans for porting it into Linux.

Soldat was best quick action multiplayer game I played ever (including KAG). I would even purchase the key and register it finally but I know it is not possible.

And here comes my question. Can you suggest me any other action multiplayer games as fun and entertaining? I don't like most FPP shooters like Quake and Unreal clones.

Topdown CTF. I tried this a few years ago and really enjoyed it; its a shame I didn't play it more because I think its dead now :(

 

I would also like to know if there are similar games to soldat, because frankly, nothing out there comes even close to being as good as soldat is in pretty much every way. I share the same dislike for the likes of Quake, CS and Unreal games (or similar) as you, so at the end of the day, there are very few games I actually enjoy as I did with soldat.

I can suggest two really good sideview games, but they are completely different both in gameplay and design, so they won't replace soldat. They are still very much worth a try.

Teeworlds and OpenLieroX was close but not good enough... Teeworlds is too much tiring with clicking, OpenLieroX isn't popular.

It has one minus - isn't popular. In lobby I have found only two people.

I might suggest Alititude, which is more like Triplane Turmoil, but that's hardly a bad thing. ;)

Don't let the german site fool you, this game can be set to English language after you run it for the first time from the options.

 

I tried Masjin, but as you all said... few people play.. which is a shame.

Quite a big one.
Open Clonk is free, open source, and primarily about combat.
Clonk, however, is more of a survival sidescrolling strategy game.
