The sentiment about builder combat is spot on; attacking as a builder is broken. If I'm not mistaken, though, builder combat is already on @Geti 's list of broke stuff that needs fixing(TM), so that should be made more sane at some point in the near future.

There is no real strategy involved with builder combat anyway. If builders had more ways of creating useful traps, that might be able to counter their inability at fighting, or the random-induced factor for hitting when lagging.

What I mean to say is that there's only so much traps we as a builder can currently implement. I'd more so wish for shit like trigger activated traps, wire/rope traps, and some instantly place-able traps you can buy from a shop and toss down at a moment's notice.

Traps are honestly rather un-fun to play against, though the mechanisms side of stuff will open more options there they are unlikely to be added wholesale to CTF.

The stuff rayne's been working on with the builder recode is much more promising than saying "well, the combat with them sucks, so I guess invest in other avenues".

Well right now it's more so traps are boring and repetitive, than being right up "un-fun" to me.

Traps aren't un-fun, you're just not making them fun. Do something crazy with them. Make a tramp spike death cannon. Hide mines in trees EVERYWHERE. Invent new traps. Experiment with them. If you just go "3x3 hole, place saw, place trap block" like a robot then THAT'S what is making it boring and repetetive.

You misread what I said. To me they are a bit boring and repetitive, not that they are un-fun. It was Geti to say they are un-fun to play against.

They just get boring now because unless you're super creative, it's getting harder and harder to make any legit traps that don't border on resource spamming.

The trick is to make many subtle, small traps that protect your base and doors. Pretty much every big trap is a huge waste of resources and time, nobody ever even goes in them so it's not fun. The best traps are the ones that don't involve any trap blocks.

And from that perspective, each trap is unique and suited to the passage you're trying to protect with it. I might give some examples in a bit
