Developers this is getting ridiculous. I've noticed a substantial increase in illegitimate vote kicks for griefing by trolls or in experienced players. Just today I was kicked for griefing a wood wall in which I was replacing the wood with stone (EU Official). Then I joined another server (AUS Official) and talked about it with other players and a troll vote kicked me (it failed) just for talking to other players about what happened to me. The AUS server connection crashed for me and I was banned from both servers. (BTW that troll's name was Fritz)

I know there are probably hundreds of topics similar to this one, but doesn't that speak volumes for how much of a problem this is becoming? All I want to do is eat my breakfast and play KAG before work, but it's becoming almost impossible.

  2. I concur with this. I was on AUS CTF when this happened, apparently a "trio" of griefers were deliberately destroying reds defenses (which had not breached so far), then when @Sector1 (Numb) tried to fix them, the "Trio" shouted he was griefing and called a votekick (and with 3 votes in favour straight away, it was likely that it would pass) and the vote did pass.

I then saw moleman (one of the trio) destroy the wall protecting below the flag (without it, the enemy could dig into the flag room without any opposition - we blocked the other end to prevent them entering the base) and spamming ladders up the front of our tower, letting the enemy up. I called him out on and went to votekick him when someone called a vote for something else and it failed, meaning i had to wait 10 minutes. However, he still manages to call a votekick against me despite the 10 minute wait and i was votekicked. I called the guards but they stopped griefing, but not before we lost our entire front tower + flag.

In the end, Karma hit the griefing "trio" after a votekick was called against moleman and passed, but strangely the other 2 of the trio left at the exact time moleman was kicked (exact second). I suspect one person with multiple accounts involved.

  3. Not bad suggestions, except:
I don't see how doing the tutorials can help stop griefers or avoid being kicked,
Both of us were votekicked from the server and both of us had good ping.
Having people with votekick immunity would be a good idea, but everyone's vote weighs the same and cannot be changed; furthermore, the official servers are run by the devs and it's very unlikely they will change the official server settings to give people votekick immunity.

I personally think that the team needs more guards. I don't know why it would be that big of a deal, especially if there are already a lot of trusted admins out there.

Guards are dead. There won't be any more recruited. In fact, it has been said that we're going to lose our powers sooner or later (don't ask me for dates, we're supposed to be gone since 2012).

The only thing I can suggest is to grab some recording tool, like OpenBroadcaster, set it up and use the hotkeys to record it when it happens. And if you end up being falsely banned you can always come to IRC (i know, I know, it's kinda tedious) and ping any of the official admins or guards, we can help you afterwards (help as in unban).

More official server admins would be welcome (nag @Furai, he's the one that runs them) but guards (ie moderators that can act anywhere) are not going to be expanded, and as Galen says are going to be phased out as soon as we get around to it, as it just gives bad server admins a crutch for not moderating their servers. The problem with any vote system is the democratic aspect of course - if we remove it or change it (people have suggested things that have been removed, and suggested things added in response to suggestions be removed) someone will be unhappy, if we leave it as it is, someone will be unhappy. We're not ignorant of the problem, but I've yet to hear a good solution that isn't just disabling when there are moderators present.
