Why Do We Play This Game As Much As We Do? UPDATED!

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by joshua4637, Jul 19, 2015.

  1. I was kind've wondering, alot of the people playing have been around for quite a while but we got a few newcomers, and I've always wondered what provokes us people to always come back and play a little, sure people are kind've retiring from it because its the summer and all and other games have had some rising popularity to us of late, but why do we come back?

I like games that do not take you by the hand and that reward skill. As opposed to randomness or always-win-ness (read: mobile gaming).

  5. Not denying that :P just wondering why its been so good for so long, I've owned KAG from Classic To Beta and I still can't quite answer it...

So how do you feel when the game punishes you for not being good enough?

  7. Would you say KAG is favorite game? Even if the game was more than $2.50?

Of all time? Perhaps not. But it is certainly in my top 5 favorites in steam because in about half as many days I logged more than twice as many hours in KAG than the previous game I played for some 300 hours (Gmod).

This is arising one small question for me to you than, do you feel the need for KAG to change? Or do you like it how it is?

Even though there are some pretty sweet moments in this game, I feel as if the reason for me playing this game is unconscious addiction.

I mean of course it would be cool to have more customizaton, but given that this has been addressed many times I'm willing to accept KAG as it is right now.

From what I remember, playing video games stimulates the same part of the brain as drugs, alcohol etc., all of which people become easily addicted to. The affected parts of the brain are then flooded with dopamine which acts like a reward. The brain then enforces these activities, beginning a cycle. Correct me if I am wrong, I only picked this information up from articles I have read over the years.

Like crap. Which is the point. The brutal and unforgiving nature of KAG actually got me hooked on it. It's probably kind of like a Skinner box.

  17. Your pretty right, but these chemicals are only released when somebody is happy or excited with the situation going on at hand, say for example two people just played for an hour and had a really great time the brain sends out the chemical and reinforces those 2 people to have a good time, by technically giving it reward, which is really the cause of all addictions

I've played this game for many different reasons:

First to join the greatest social clan back in classic.

Then to join the most skilled clan in Beta.

Then to design a new clan that was a mixture of the last two clans.

And finally to join a clan where players challenged themselves to be the best they could be.

Kag is addicting to me because of how much of an impact you have on the game. I remember showing my friends how good I was by switching teams when one team was getting too far ahead. I switched teams so many times that the map finally stalemated and had to be nextmapped.
