Lately, I've seen alot of people in game clueless about how to build. They make mistakes that can and alot of the time do compromise the team. This guide will explain the basics of building, from rushing to defending to making the use of your resources. (and yes the pictures are badly proportioned). (More shall be added soon).

    This is your average builder:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.17.41 pm.png
He's squishable, not very strong with only 3 hearts.
    He uses a picaxe:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.31.12 pm.png
    to break blocks, including:
    Dirt :dirt:
    Gold :gold_b:
    Stone (both small and large)::stone::h_rock:
    Trees Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.21.09 pm.png
    Grass Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.21.02 pm.png
And various other blocks including workshops, stone blocks, spikes and ladders.

He can also place blocks, including :castle_wall::spikes::workbench::door::stone_door::ladder:.

A builder can't do much without these: :wood_mat::stone_mat::gold_mat:, our resources.
    They are:
    Stone:stone_mat:
    Wood:wood_mat:
    and Gold:gold_mat: (ik, shiny right?)

He can place these materials in the form of blocks.
These are all the blocks a builder can create:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.29.47 pm.png
    They include:
Stone blocks: Strong blocks that cost 10 stone each, do not catch fire, cannot be jabbed by knights.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.30.51 pm.png
Wood blocks: Weaker blocks, normally used for fillers, cost 10 wood, catch fire and can be jabbed by knights.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.30.55 pm.png
Stone wall: Cost 2 stone each, strong, cannot burn.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.30.41 pm.png
Wood wall: Cost 2 wood each, weaker, can burn.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.30.47 pm.png
Stone door: Strong doors that cannot burn or be jabbed to pieces, Cost 50 stone each.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.30.59 pm.png
Wood door: Weaker doors that cost 30 wood. Can be burnt and jabbed.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.31.19 pm.png
Spikes: Spikes that are placed on wood or natural blocks (e.g gold or dirt). Can hurt teamates and cost 30 stone.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.31.22 pm.png
Team spikes: Spikes that are placed on stone. Cost 30 stone and cannot hurt teammates (unless triggered by an enemy). They are trigged by the opposite team + sharks.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.31.26 pm.png
Workshops: Can be built into various useful shops including storages, knight and archer shops (more detail will be added soon). Cost 150 stone each. Can be burnt in default built state.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.31.35 pm.png
Trap blocks: Allow enemies through, not teamates. Cost 25 stone each.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.31.40 pm.png
Wooden platform: Allows entities (people, arrows etc) through them one way. Cost 15 wood. Can be jabbed and burnt (in original state).
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.31.43 pm.png

A typical building consits of blocks, either wood or stone. They also use doors and backwalls.
So you've collected your resources and now your onto building. You make a wall and two doors, looking like this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.46.19 pm.png
That is bad, it uses no backwalls (so it can be easily collapsed) and is made primarily of wood (easy to burn and is jabbable).
    And this is no better:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.46.27 pm.png

Your first buildings should look something like this (obviously without the lanterns):
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.50.39 pm.png
It uses a balance of wood and stone, platforms (forming overhangs to stop climbing knights) and adequate backwalls to stop collapsing.
And this building can be easily upgraded, with spikes, a workshop and more doors/walls:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.55.23 pm.png
And another slight upgrade makes it look like this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.57.30 pm.png

Note, the enemy are coming from the front (the side not with the doors).
So you've made your first building but now your faced with the ordeal of making a base around one of these things, a flag:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 3.59.36 pm.png
A basic flag defence is this, 3 walls and 2 doors:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 4.01.41 pm.png
Doesn't look very safe does it. This type of build is good for starting of your build but it is not the end product. You need layering.

What is this layering you say? It is the art of using wood blocks or back walls to create defensive layers around a base, like so:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 4.04.25 pm.png Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 4.04.04 pm.png
Platforms and other backwalls can be used to replace chosen blocks between the layers of stone. Layering creates basically a filler between layers of stone. The layers are usually consisted of cheap blocks. They are primarily used to fill out a structure, not to create the structure.

Continued flag defence, platforms (overhangs, barriers and bomb defences), Door placement, builder rushing (scaling walls advanced)

Backwall placement, Building using techniques learnt and repairing
Spikes, how to be a helpful builder, tent defence/shops, Safe repairing, Hidey holes for rushing, Platform walls and Platform boosting
Hiding mines, thief proof tree farms and easy access tramp cannons

Todo list: add building techniques etc, more on blocks, tips and tricks.

Now you understand layering, we can start a basic flag defence.
    Stage 1, The gutts:

    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 4.01.41 pm.png
What you saw before, its the basic building blocks you expand on.

Stage 2, the muscles part 1 of 2:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.22.50 pm.png
Layering is used to fill out this layer.

Stage 2, the muscles part 2 of 2:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.28.42 pm.png
A skin of protective stone blocks is added to protect the wood layer.

    Stage 3, shields:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.31.52 pm.png
A layer of platforms is used to reduce explosive damage to the blocks underneath.

    Stage 4, the finished product:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.34.25 pm.png
Outer layer of stone to cover everything.

    These:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.39.02 pm.png
They may not looks like much, but platforms can save buildings.

    Overhangs and walls:
A platforms most common use in KAG is for overhangs or archer nests.

Overhangs: These are used to stop ascending knights, builders and sometimes archer from scaling your building.
A basic one looks like this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.41.21 pm.png
It stops knights using arrow ladders and slows down builders trying to rush your tower.

A better version of this simple one just uses one extra block:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.43.27 pm.png
The extra platform here stops knights from climbing around your barrier, trying to catch the ledge and get over.

An even better version is this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.45.34 pm.png
The creative use of downwards and sideways pointing platforms decreases the chance of those pesky knights getting over. It also acts as a basic barrier against arrows.

Platforms can also be used as barriers against bombs and arrows, and also allows archers to fire out of them.
A basic barrier consists of this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.49.02 pm.png
Not much to see, just a couple of stone blocks and stone walled platforms.

    An upgrade:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.51.03 pm.png
Not really much to see, platforms as barriers are pretty basic stuff, but still are effective.

Platforms are a very useful tool against bombs. A basic bomb shield or gutter consists of this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.53.11 pm.png
These platforms smother the blast of an explosions.
    The aftermath after a bomb:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 5.55.11 pm.png
The platform is slightly damaged, but the stone blocks stay completely unharmed.

An upgraded version of the bomb gutter can look like this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 6.00.45 pm.png
The bottom of the gutter is dug into the ground, so even if the platforms get destroyed, the dirt blocks are only getting hurt. Dirt blocks are also more explosive resistent. The platforms on this gutter also help to funnel the bombs down into the bottom of the gutter.

An even better design is this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 6.03.00 pm.png
This design is more time consuming but succesfully captures and negates damages from bombs. Use at own risk, because it has a chance of trapping your own team.

Doors are tricky things to use. They can be used against your team if held open (corpses etc).
    The looks like these:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 6.08.13 pm.png
    They allow your teammates through.

Basic doors are placed like this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 6.09.06 pm.png
The stone door stops the enemy from breaking the wood doors and getting in.

Doors can also be used hand in hand with platforms to negate bomb damage:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 6.10.39 pm.png
    And after a bomb explosion:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 6.11.33 pm.png
    The door is left unharmed.

    A good door design:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 6.17.00 pm.png
Both doors in this design cannot be kept open by one person. Ideally, a another set of doors would be added behind incase they are kept open by 2 or more entities.

So your rushing up with your team mates, and you reach a wall, lets say it looks like this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 6.44.09 pm.png
Theres no time to tunnel through. You could just place ladders, but it won't last. You want something that can be used for a longer period of time.
    So you use wood blocks.
Step 1, block the door with stone, add some supports:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 6.46.25 pm.png

    Step 2, add some wood:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 6.47.26 pm.png

Step 3, add more wood or backwalls for support and create a easier slope.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 6.48.29 pm.png

And Viola, a lasting path over a wall. This takes some time, ladders should be used first to allow your knights over to defend you.

    Alot of people do this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.14.10 pm.png
Quite frankly, this is a massive waste of stone.

And whats the point of using stone backwalls on stone blocks. Its not going to burn if you use wooden backwalls. Stone should be used to strengthen backwalls and fire proof wood.

This would be a much better placement of backwalls:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.16.31 pm.png

And if a wooden item (i'm using a wooden block in this picture) is placed, just do this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.16.26 pm.png

There is no point of wasting materials on filling out backwalls. Something like this works for most occasions:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.19.07 pm.png

And for larger walls, something like this should be used:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.18.27 pm.png
The use of stone seperates the wooden backwalls from eachother.

Now to put that theory to work on building a base:

First we lay a base of stone as so:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.23.14 pm.png

Then we build it up, using layering:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.24.30 pm.png
Now we increase the height slightly and add the doors:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.26.13 pm.png

Now, increase the size of the tower using layering of your choice:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.27.48 pm.png

And add some overhangs and platform barriers:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.31.05 pm.png

    Now add the backwalls:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.33.58 pm.png

    And finally, some bomb gutters:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.35.04 pm.png

And banza, you've completed a tower.

So you've created your flag protection:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.41.24 pm.png
    But it gets keged:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.43.19 pm.png

Firstly, Place a blocks like so:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.44.14 pm.png

    Then add some backwalls:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.44.54 pm.png

Then place some blocks over that (can be both wooden or stone):
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.45.49 pm.png

And some quick platforms to negate explosion damage:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.46.54 pm.png
And Bam, a quick repair for a flag.

And there's HEAPS more to come.

Firstly, you need to remember that spikes can be a massive waste of stone. They should only be placed where needed and sparingly.

We will start with a basic spike trap:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.55.00 pm.png
The spikes on wood stun your prey, making them fall back into the trap, while the team spikes allow for continous spike damage. Of course, this would be set into the ground or surrounded by layers (stone or wood).

    Spike traps on walls:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 7.58.19 pm.png
Again, the spikes on wood will stun the enemy into the spike pit, and the team spikes with supply the fire power.

    Spikes on walls:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 8.00.48 pm.png
Again, the key to spike trapping succesfully is using the wood spikes to stun your enemies.

    Some wisdom from @Darruin
Tip #1: Don't minecraft, try to do something helpful like rush for your team.
Tip #2: If your base is being absolutely destroyed, go knight, help defend, (unless your going to actually repair your base).
Tip #3: Try to fortify your frontline base, don't spend a huge amount of time building the middle or tent bases, if your front falls your basically dead.

This is quite a advanced but useful tent defence (against spawn killers) and a building for various shops. Note, all the shops MUST be placed in the same places for this to work:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 8.20.14 pm.png
In this building, the worse shops are placed near the bottom. The knight shop is in easy access, while the shops you want to protect are higher up. The use of doors also allows easy acces to all places.

    Ever been in this situation?
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 9.20.07 pm.png
You need to repair your castle but a knight is in your way.
A wall that is designed to be repaired safely looks like this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 9.21.56 pm.png
This wall allows you fix anydamage, while staying safely behind your side of the wall.

This deisgn allows you to hide in a hole if your rush is compromised. The spikes stop knights trying to slash your doors and the platforms negate explosive damage (as explained earlier in this guide).
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 9.26.49 pm.png

Remeber the platforms, the multi use blocks? Well, they've got a new role, it's called 'walls'.
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 9.31.02 pm.png
Works as a block wall and negates damage from explosions IN ONE.
Note- Use at your own risk as archers can glitch through them.
*sigh* what can't you do plats?

Platforms placed in this order allow for boosting:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 9.48.08 pm.png
If you enter from the right side and jump into the first platforms, and you continue to hold jump and left, you will continually boost forwards.
And some doors allow it to be safe:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-06 at 9.50.48 pm.png

Make sure to point the direction of enemy base in flag defence chapter. Also mentio on the second spoiler at wood spikes that its the same as placing spikes on dirt.
    That aside amazing job man!

Apparently I don't use enough platforms :ehh:
At the same time though, you use layers of wood instead of said platforms as frankle was saying?

I do this sort of thing (facing away from the flag ofc). Is this a good idea?:

Just a note with vertical plat walls. Archers can easily glitch through them, on purpose and accidentally.

With the layering, I used wood blocks as an example. I'll write abit more about only using strands of wood (1 block wide), not to use massive 10 block wide layers.
    Edit://
Are you talking about the platforms blocked side is facing away?

Firstly, place a mine on the ground like so, (mines cost 60 coins and are bought from knight shops):
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.42.21 pm.png
Now place a team trapblock next to it, so the mine glitches into it:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.43.14 pm.png
Then cover the mines spikes with more trapblocks:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.44.18 pm.png
Now the mine is completely hidden and any enemies that walk into the trap blocks go BOOM. The mines can also be placed into the trap blocks, instead of placing the trap blocks over them.
The trap blocks can also be disguised, to make them look more natural:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.45.51 pm.png

Place some backwalls and blocks (can be both wood, stone or trap blocks) as so:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.46.41 pm.png
    Place some platforms like so:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.47.59 pm.png
Collect some seeds and plant them:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.48.43 pm.png
Add the saws and enjoy, the saws cannot be picked up:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.50.52 pm.png

To please your knights who have difficulty getting a full jump from a trampoline cannon. Obviously, this would be set into a tower etc.
Step 1: Create something like this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.55.46 pm.png
    Use a block like this:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.55.59 pm.png
To drop an open tramp onto, allowing it to roll into the position.
Step 2: Place some tramps like this and open them:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.56.48 pm.png
To open all at the same time, hold e and click on all these buttons:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.56.25 pm.png

And now your tramp cannon is comeplete:
    Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.56.48 pm.png
Access is from the bottom tramp cannon, remeber to keep holding jump or move buttons, depending on the speed etc of your jump. Also, the placement of the final cannons may have to be changed, to cater to your needs.

Wow, you guys make some weird tramp cannons. 4 stacked tramps is max boost, and you can place your main tramps more upright to give more horizontal boost instead of vertical, like this:

    :blank::blank::blank::blank::blank::castle_wall:
    :blank::blank::castle_wall::blank::castle_wall:
    :blank::blank::blank::castle_wall:

But its much more convenient to just put the final tramps in place of those downward tramps, a bit more to the right , and you will autolaunch.
That downward tramp you start off with, I use as a spike cannon (drop spike into the middle of the tramp)

That trapblock mine trick is very cool, didnb't know about that, but not very useful imo.
Looking forward to the rest of this guide, doing great so far :)

Basic wood blocks are shit. It's always better to use platforms for defense

literally why. It takes 1 less hit than a stone block and it saves stone for more layers

Stone getting stone isnt really a problem at building time so its better to use it coz that 1 hit. If you have no stone platforms are more resistant and are pain in the ass for rats coz if they get to them they can be atacked from inside the base. Also fire but thats not main problem

I think woodblocks are more resistant to bombarrows but platforms are obviously stronger against bombs (and builders)

    edit: Wot about dis?:
(tops a bit weird though, that was someone else, could use a thicker front wall too)

-Any ideas people want added to the guide. More about bomb defence or door placements?
Yes, blocks are more resistent, but platforms give a bonus against explosions.
The builder looks good, obviously it needs more thickness on the front wall, maybe a bit more backwall or layering. Just keep expanding on your skils, you'll go well.
