(gifs can take some time to load)

    ARCHER COMPENDIUM
    :r_flex::bow::flex:
    Made by Coroz and RedOTheWisp
This document is fully copyrighted if you take anything from it you will not get any cookies.
This compendium is made for archers only, we hope it will make you become an even better archer.

    1. when to use quarter-shots
    [IMG]
    A. Height advantage. Spam when an enemy is under you. (Hailstorm)
Positioning yourself above a group of enemies (usually near a door) will enable you to spam quarter-shots, forcing enemy knights to shield their heads giving them little opportunity to attack doors or teammates. The arrows have the potential to do one heart of damage as opposed to half a heart, this depends on the height at which you are shooting.
    B. finisher when someone is low on health
A quarter-shot will kill an enemy on half a heart, this can be used to your advantage as a quarter-shot can be fired while a knight is charging a slash. You can also rush to a knight with grapple and spam quarter-shots around him until he drops his shield.
    C. Spam quarter shots when in close combat with an enemy archer.
Spamming quarter-shots during a close combat archer fight will often result in the enemy walking or jumping into arrows in an attempt to escape, most likely killing them within a few seconds.(this can work if the fight is chaotic.)
    D. some like to kite and spam quarter shots to slowly wear a opponent down.
An archer can use a similar tactic to B to slowly wear down an enemy with full health, however this can prove to be very risky as it requires you to be closer to your opponent.(This type of fighting is more suited for trolling.)
    2. when to use half shots
    [IMG]
    A. In mid range battles.
Utilizing half-shots during mid-range fights gives you good range and damage in addition to slightly more attack speed.
    B. Damage support when you have knights with you.
Spamming half-shots when behind a group of teammates can prove deadly to the opposing force as in the chaos each attempt to slash will result in one heart of damage.
    C. Arc shot enemy's you normaly can't hit.
Half-shots are the best shots for arcing as the the trajectory can be predicted easily. Arcing shots accurately can be difficult as you usually have to wait to see if you hit your target however it can be used to win an archer duel or to catch and enemy builder off guard.
    D. As a finisher after a stun or stomp.
Enemies hit by a stomp, water arrow, or stunshot are stunned long enough for you to fire a half-shot, which if done in conjunction with a stomp can result in three hearts of damage, depending on the power of the stomp.
    E. 2 halfshots after each other against a enemy archer
This is the fastest way in a medium ranged battle against archers.
3 when to use full shots
    [IMG]
    A. Stun players at short range battle.
Perfect against knights that draw their sword, just keep a little bit of distance after each stun.
    B. Stun a player then grapple behind him to push him from a cliff or tower.
    C. More accurate then half shots.
    D. Long range battles.
Aim higher the further you shoot.
    E. Hitting a enemy keg at close range.will push the keg back.
    4. when to use charged shots
    [IMG]
    A. To hit and stun enemy knights at close range.
If done at a close enough range, a charged shot will deal 2 hearts of damage to a shielded knight.
    B. Instantly kill players, With a additional stomp you can instantly kill knights as well.
Charge shots can insta-kill builders and other archers by itself, however if you stomp a knight and follow up with a charged shot it can insta-kill them as well (is very difficult to pull off as the knight needs to be unshielded and not slashing).
    C. To kill knights near doors.
With the right timing you can easily damage or kill a knight slashing at a door, however as this tactic is relatively well known knights will often either move away or change their slash timing.
    D. Hitting a enemy keg at close range.will push the keg back allot.
    E. Hitting players with a charged shot creates a small knockback, ideal for pushing players from a cliff or tower.
(hitting lit kegs in mid-air can make them explode.)
    5. Arrows tips and tricks
    A. Use your own arrows to make mini ladders so you do not have to use grapple at some times.
Running and jumping at a wall whilst shooting a quarter shot can enable you to climb a few (2 or 3) extra blocks, however, it must be timed well if you wish to make a speedy getaway without slowing down.
    B. Shoot enemy bombs away from you. make water bombs explode on contact.
    C. Shoot kegs from enemy's back.
Shooting an enemy with a keg will cause it to fall off their back and roll slightly. This can potentially save your team’s flag, especially if you quickly pick it up and grapple away (Depends on your proximity to the keg).
    D. Shoot burgers/fish to allies.
If you throw a burger or fish in the air whilst charging a charged arrow, you can propel it high speeds towards and ally. Though this is a cool trick, it is very difficult to perform correctly and it is possible to shoot it at an enemy instead of your ally.
    E. Arrow ladders.
Shooting arrows at a vertical wall will enable your knights to climb over the enemy defense in seconds (Arrows will disappear after 1-2 people climb them). This is especially effective in early rushes.
    F. Horizontal arrow ladder.
Shooting arrows along a line of platforms will allow you to cross by quickly jumping from arrow to arrow. (This also works at the bottom of the map when there is a ravine.)
    G. Shooting a ballista or catapult wil damage it even with normal arrows and gives you coins in the process.
It takes 60 normal arrows, 30 fire arrows or 2 bomb arrows to destroy a ballista or catapult. It doesn't matter if you hit with quater-shots, half-shots or full-shots they all do the same damage and give you 5 coins each hit potentially giving you 300 coins with 60 hits. Fire arrows also give 5 coins with each hit but does double the damage of a normal arrow. Bomb arrows give 20 coins each hit.
    H. Shoot mines to make them explode.
    I. Faking shots to make a knight stay still.
Continually charging and canceling shots will usually make a knight stand fast and raise their shield (Doesn’t waste arrows either). This is useful when waiting for the rest of your team, however, this is usually only effective 2 or less knights, if there are more they will often just rush you.
    J. You can also charge up a water arrow and switch back to normal to shoot. Most players run away from this.
Similar to the above tactic, however this can potentially cause them to retreat instead of simply standing still and shielding.
    6. Water arrows tips and tricks:water_arrow:
    A. Shooting a water arrow at a knight holding a bomb. (possibly killing them if timed well)
The stun of a water arrow, if shot at the right time will last long enough for the bomb to explode in a knight's hand, killing them (Under the right conditions) or at least dealing a large amount of damage (Can also propel them forwards or backwards).
    B. Shoot players behind doors, blocks or platforms.
The ‘ladder’ situation is somewhat rare, however, as a result of this rarity, it is very difficult to preempt.
    C. Stunning an enemy in order to escape.
The stun of a water arrow is usually grants you enough time either escape safely or advance on the enemy base, however, be careful, it is possible to stun yourself so shoot from a reasonable distance. This tactic can be employed to secure open enemy flag.
    D. Stunning an enemy then quickly shoot a fire arrow to do an easy 2 hearts of damage.
This is not really advised if you want to keep your soul, but it works
    E. Shooting at midair knight gliding from a sky-bridge (difficult to pull off)
Shooting a water arrow at someone jumping from the height of sky bridge will almost always kill, stunning a knight or archer disables their ability (shield glide or grapple) to prevent such a death. This is tricky to pull off and requires you to both react quickly and aim well.
    F. Putting out teammates and wooden structures that are on fire.
Make sure you shoot at the feet of the ally on fire. You can do the same to yourself when on fire, however, it will always leave you stunned and often times enable the archer who shot you previously to quickly kill you.
    G. Shooting a water arrow at a enemy keg will lauch the keg away. The closer you are the harder it goes.
    7. Fire arrows tips and tricks:fire_arrow:
    A. Platforms and wooden doors with a wooden background get burned realy fast.
This can be used to destroy large structures, break open enemy doors or to expose enemy archers behind platforms. Try to shoot when the is no builder in sight as they can easily patch up any holes, also keep in mind that platforms reinforced with stone back walls are highly resistant to fire (It is difficult to spot the difference between wood and stone walls).
Stone background still works somewhat decently but the burning stops after a while.
    B. Burn the gras if enemy's approach.
This is a relatively unknown tactic that can be effective at scattering and disorganizing the initial enemy charge, it is however, dependent on the map and somewhat easy to avoid.
    C. Burning your own wooden structures in a emergency can be made easy by placing a wooden platform next to it and set it ablaze.
This can be very useful if the enemy is about to take the said structure as doing so will prevent them from utilizing it, in addition to possibly burning or crushing some of the attacking force.

Fire arrow shot against a wooden block from your team.
Fire arrow shot against platform from your team.
    D. Fire arrows are ideal in combat. a normal shot deals 2 damage.
Simply shooting fire arrows into a crowd of enemies can be an effective tactic as it scatters knights and builders and often outright kills archers unless they can get a heart or have a water arrow on them.
    8. Bomb arrows tips and tricks:bomb_arrow:
    A. You only need 2 bomb arrows to destroy a catapult or ballista.
It will give you 20 coins with each hit.
    B. Shooting bomb arrows against platforms does almost no damage.
Be wary of this as failing to realize will result in a wasted 50 coins.
    C. Shooting bomb arrows against a wall with platforms behind will destroy them both removing 6 blocks at most.
Perfect for destroying the flagroom or a tower. You can see on the map if a wall contains platforms inside them.
    D. Shooting a bomb arrow when someone stands in doors can destroy 6 to 8 doors instantly.
This can be a game winner, however, it is difficult to pull off as it requires precise aim and timing.
    E. Bomb arrows can destroy a lot of spikes in one shot.
Good for clearing all the pesky spikes protecting the enemy base.
    9. Stomp section
    A. Archer stomp.
Jump with the archer and stay on top, charge up for a half or full shot so when he lands he dies instantly.
    B. Knight stomp.
You can either stomp and use a charge shot. or do a charge shot and finish it with a stomp. The second option is handy for breaking its shield.
    C. Grapple stomp.
Grapple stomp can even do 2 hearts of damage if you have enough momentum.
    D. Sideway grapple stomp.
This is exceptionally difficult to do, the timing, precision and circumstances needed to pull it off make it a very rare occurrence, but, it is possible (most likely to most difficult trick in this guide).
    10. Grapple section
    A. Fake grapple.
With a fake grapple you can try to lure enemy players, this can also be used for kiting the enemy.
    B. Grapple behind a block to create extra momentum.
This is an essential trick for an archer. Moving back whilst simultaneously grappling onto a block or the side of the wall then letting go immediately after running and jumping forward propels you a very large distance. This is good for general mobility and for escaping a group of charging knights.
    C. Grapple+stomp+half shot a enemy.
This trick is difficult to preempt and almost always too fast to be able to react to before dying.
    11. Keg section:keg:
    A. saving your tower by removing a keg from a enemy.
Most players drop the keg just before detonation, try to shoot the keg from the enemies back, if that doesnt work you can try picking it up when they decide to drop it.
    B. Stealing the keg from a enemy knight.
Try to shoot it from the knights back. You normaly have to aim a little big higher.
    C. Triple shooting a enemy keg.
Sometimes you have to take the risk for some awesome fireworks.
    12. Capping the flag Tips and tricks
    A. kill some one in the door opening to get the flag.
With a well timed stun from either a fullshot or a stomp (or both) you can force the enemy to go through the doors where you take him down at just the right moment.
    B. Always look for the weakest spot to get the flag.
Here are 2 examples. Your own bombarrow wont kill you if you are full on health because of this you can stand next to a stonewall and use a bombarrow, immediately after you shoot grapple in to stomp enemy's inside increasing your succes rate of capping the flag.
    [IMG] [IMG]
    13. Crouch tips and tricks
    A. Playing dead
Make sure to drop some arrows on the ground so you can fake it. Some people check the map and see if you are alive or not.
    B. Grapple crouch
You can actually grapple crouch through enemies to avoid damage and create some space.
    C. Crouching does make you look smaller but it actually doesn't
Do not crouch to avoid damage from arrows (it doesn't work). Its better to take the damage and charge arrows yourself or to jump away.
    D. Crouch while shooting arrows
You can avoid lots of objects by crouching on the right moment. Like ballistas, catapults, boulders and players trying to stomp you. Also the crouch animation won't show when you charge arrows at the same time so you can use it to bait enemies.
    E. Crouching doesn't work when you want to extinguish fire from your body in a one block high watertile.
    Food tips:food:
    A. Pick up hearts if you see them. 1 burger combined with arrows and 2 bombarrows is a nice combination to make sure you stay alive while destroying parts of their base.
A little trick is to have a couple of hearts or burgers in your inventory and press/spam the 'eat button' after any damage taken. You almost get instantly healed from damage. (This works even better for a builder or a burgerknight.)
    Tips for new players
    1. If you never played archer before I would start of working on your aim. Just stand on a safe location and practice aiming. And try helping the team this way. If you die, you only give coins to the enemy so its best to just stand on locations where the enemy cant get you that easy. (practice the quarter / half / full and charged shots)

    2. Once you are decent at aiming at the enemy, its time for you to go outside your castle. By using grapple. At first , try and avoid close combat against knights. Practice stuns against builders and other archers.

    3. Once your grapple and aiming gets good. Work on your stuns and stomps. Stunning knights can be hard at first because the slash is very fast. Just practice and it comes naturaly in a while. Stomps can be tedious. You have to time your stomps so they wont slash you. Also stomping others when they climp up your tower works great. Combine it with grapple for more speed.

    4. Be carefull when you open doors or shoot through doors. Because the enemy wants to go in badly. And you only have 2 hearts of health.

Additional advice: I see many archers make smooth swings with the grapple, this is kinda bad it makes movement very predictable and a capable archer will shoot you down in no time. Try to be a little chaotic and think 1 or 2 steps ahead of the other player.

Not all spoilers have gifs, we might add them later on.

You forgot about removing arrows from your inventory and holding down to fake death.
I'm pretty sure if your inventory is full and your holding tipped arrows you can switch to them only through the F menu. Quick switch doesn't work in this case.

    Sticky'ed. :gear:

In the grappling section, you can add the combined grapple-trampoline super jump. Also, the one where you launch off a vertical trampoline but use your grapple to change directions and fly really far.

Awesome job with this guide. Hopefully builders see this too and learn how to build stone in conjuction with platforms properly when it comes to protecting against bomb arrows.

Something else that could be added to charged shots is that they can effectively destroy a knight's bomb jump, if they try to bomb jump onto a tower and an archer hits them with a charged shot the knockback can almost always push them down if hit from above or back if the side and if close enough the stun causes them to flinch and take fall damage. This also applies to knights coming over from a catapult or a nearby tower with a jumpable gap (though that is far riskier). It was mentioned that they are effective when knocking enemies off of a tower or cliff but a charged shot is probably the best method to defend towers from enemy knights even getting on as well.
