I was playing a game on Action! Unlim respawn, and found myself as a new found archer fan completely safe in this structure and racking up some kills. I have messed around with it in paint to fix it to an extent - the three lines of drawbridges had been destroyed, and so had the team doors but i pasted them in there to give you a better idea of how it was.
Sorry to the knight stuck in our doors as a result of that.

But to the point, it seems as there are only ever one or two structures built specifically for the archer and generally far away which is pointless if they are pushing hard. as they have probably passed them. This was built around 50 blocks away from the main structure, at the foot of the hill. I think i managed to get about 20 kills just stood in that thing before they kept bringing more and more knights.

Improvements: Possibly a little taller so as to stop knights jumping on each others shield and possibly a spike trap at the bottom to make my job so easy as a one shot kill.

EDIT Wyeth: Read GUIDELINES before posting. Added build numbers.

It may be that there are not a lot of structures made catering specifically to the needs of archers, but thats because in public games the builders mostly cater to nothing at all. What I am saying is they fail to build structures that are specifically useful for any of the classes, the knight just doesn't need much catering to, to be useful (its also kinda hard to actually build something that supports knights since they just need high ground for that first stomping attack and after that supporting them with something static like a building is not possible). The archer on the other hand is pretty easy to cater to, since he can fight stationary (ergo stationary fortifications can be useful to support him).
If you look around this forum you will find lots of structures that support archers more or less well, at least they try to cater to the needs of an archer. This specific structure you posted has actually many flaws, in my eyes. There is a hole on the right that is not covered with a teamdoor for example, a good archer will not wait to shoot through that from the outside, making standing inside that room hellish. The one space gap on the other hand will immensely decrease your firing arc. The things this structure does right is letting you rain arrows downwards easily on the knights who try to climb up, something that many structures posted here have done far better and with less material cost than this one.
This structure is by no means awful, but it could be improved upon.

    For reference:

Many of these are outdated, but still work fine.

Wow. Just wow. I know there are going to be a lot of archer based structures around the forums, and many more in game that people have spent time thinking of, but i posted this because i enjoyed being in this structure in game and it seems like something quite memorable and not actually that hard to build.

I think this structure would be better of being a bit taller, because as it stands, once the enemy has broken your doors, a knight can vault over the first ones shield and catch any archers unaware. Easily fixed by adding a couple of blocks more (or a friendly knight with bombs. Cant shield up and down at once!)

A lot taller, no way up easy is what you need to change. I could get into that so easy and you have no drop off for archers at the front door. It's a good structure for having archers, but not a perfect one. Your idea of having the main area where archers can shoot down is okay, but also weakens your structure a bit, and is open to it's own host of problems. Overall good struct though, nice idea.

If I were attacking this I would destroy the dirt below me and hit the trap doors above me and jump up to them, entirely possible as a knight. So a particular improvement might be to replace the dirt below the 3 drawbridges with stone.

To add on to what Neat said, always make the first drawbridge 2 tiles above the ground , not 3, makes it much harder for a knight to have to break it without bombs.

Bombjumping inside this thing on archy could be epic.

I have a personal preference to something like this:

This is something I like to put on top of a tall tower in the start up phase (no way I'm doing it later, unless wood is really plentiful since it's really expensive). I also didn't use ladders and used team bridges instead mainly because of preference. I find ladders too slow and if I'm 1v1 with another archer, the extra movement speed on a bridge can mean the difference between getting hit or not plus it provides some fog of war cover.

It also allows knights to provide an easy shield bash on to enemies on the door below. Unfortunately this structure is more vulnerable to bomb jumpers since it can provide an access point inside the building if they land on top of it.It's also only really effect for 1 or 2 archers because any more after that, the doors become useless due to being open all the time.

Any ideas on how to improve it?

I think things like that work really well if you can truly afford the materials and time to make them. I think most of the time the whole "hiding" aspect provided by team bridges isnt very well used.
