I would discuss that in the signature rules thread.

Now I've noticed for quite awhile that copyrights were, while not a bad idea in and of themselves, aka extreme cases of someone stealing work, not improving anything to it, is punishable. I feel with the new SOPA act, they're pushing it too far. I was fine with copyright for most of my life because, while it didn't seem like a good long term idea, 9 billion people on the planet, and the ability to sue if one of them happen to use an idea for profit. Which is fine, it's served its purpose.

However! With the new SOPA act, and similar bills that are trying to be pushed through congress almost annually at this point. I feel a new plan is needed, or a bill that keeps people from wasting their time on this. The idea of copyright infringement is changing if any of these bills get passed. Strange but true unfortunately, so I'd like to use this thread to discuss that.

It seems like the best option at this point is to take these law makers, and slam the constitution in their faces until either, they get it, or the life is knocked out of them. Because this is going too far.

I try to come up with anything witty to say... but all i manage to do is sigh and rub my forehead. This is just so... so stupid.

I signed the petition a few days back. I pray it goes well.

I'm very dubious about anyone not actively involved in the internet and its development having a say in what should happen to the internet.

Exactly. And there was something totalbiscuit said in his Youtube video that happens here in Canada too. Between the internet and the law.. there is no translation barrier. 50 to 70 something year old politicians who know little or nothing of the internet or how it works debate and pass internet and digital content legislation. We already have many draconian internet laws, some of which are obscure and even under scrutiny do not have a solid meaning, leaving it up to law enforcement to interpret the laws themselves and apply it as they see fit. There needs to be a dedicated body of technophiles or very tech literate professionals who can translate all the techno jargon, issues and what not into English that the dinosaur politicians can understand.

If those politicians were in the know and understood the devastating impact this could have on the economy, especially through the internet, they would hang the idiots who wrote the bills in the first place.

If SOPA and PIPA pass, there's going to be a giant facepalm of such a magnitude that it will literally knock this planet a little out of its orbit. We'll all have to make sure not to facepalm at the same time to prevent that from happening. But, first, let's prevent this nightmare from happening. If you're in the us, write your congressman. If you're not or are are in US, sign petitions, especially the one here:

I don't think the U.S. government listens to the people anymore so that petition wont do much good. :(
    It's worth a shot though.
