Best and worst FPS game you've ever played?

Best: Half Life series, Doom series, Quake 1, Unreal 2k4
Mediocre: Halo series.
Worst: Modern Waffle 1 and 2 hands down.

And NO! Saying that the MF series sucks beyond sucks does NOT make me a hipster. I played both games. The maps are repetitive, small and pretty much the same map with different features and textures, really. No imagination at all. Plus playing both games online against annoying foul mouthed squeakers, made the experience 10 times worse. People like the games because they are popular, not whether they are fun or not. This is what hipsters do. So in a sense, modern waffle players are hipsters.

 

Halo had some of these problems but Call of Duty has litteraly the worst community ever. Its worse than LoL and thats saying something.

There are so many things I want to talk about that makes Call of Duty the worst game ever. I can start with the publisher if you'd like. I could then go on to the map design, the campaigns, the price, the aesthetic. Team Fortress 2 is free and has a much more compelling gameplay. Call of Duty is like shoveled manure painted gold for the masses.

 

CoD gets some points because its satisfying to kill said community, thats something games with good communities cannot offer.

 

Mechwarrior 2, and Descent 2 were lots of fun, as well as Metroid Prime and TF2 like Trelawney said. Halo 3 had the best FPS campaign I've played, and spot-on multiplayer. Honourable mention for the first Red Faction; that game had so many reasons for me to hate it, but the game was just so fun.

 

Mech Warrior 2 was heaps of fun.

Well for one I don't think I've ever heard that definition of hipster before. Hipsters are generally defined as people who congregate around the alternative to the mainstream and look down upon those who don't conform to their view.

These are obviously hate mongering lies based on ignorance. The Modern Warfare series has had a wide variety of maps, several of which widely agreed upon to be too large. If you reply with "that is their subjective opinion", that renders your point about map size null as your minority opinion is hardly a mark against the game.

"Pretty much the same map" is fallacious as well. Even a casual glance at the overview of a few maps show that they differ greatly in design.

Also, if you argue that it is a bad game because the playerbase is young and stupid, that is not the fault of the game; it's a natural part of being popular. Furthermore if you persist along this line of reasoning I will say this: You all play KAG.

You remind of the people who post "this is a billion times better than justin bieber" on every youtube music video. I'm fine with you saying you dislike something, but give some actual evidence.

PS: your calling it Modern "Waffle" rather than Modern "Warfare" is very cute.

 

I have to agree with Contrary, perhaps it's overrated and they producers don't really innovate much after each release but it's a good game nevertheless. I have heaps of fun going to friends houses and playing split screen.

 

Where I live, hipsters are different then, as here they congregate around whatever is popular, which, of course everyone does, but they still stand out in that it almost seems like they're forcing themselves.

Well, alright, I'll admit that I'm hating on the series, but it's not complete ignorance. To me and my experience with hundreds (maybe over a thousand) multiplayer maps over the last 15 to 20 years in several games - they just seem poorly designed. All the close combat areas in each map are very similar to one another - usually ground level buildings in close proximity with very similar patterns. Open areas also have similar designs to the point that I could predict where the best hiding spots would be on maps that I just started playing. The maps just became repetitive. My biggest problem was that I am by nature a sniper. Every map was a snipers worst enemy. If you did find a good hiding spot, your target area was a least traveled area.. not an area where there was a lot of heat. Every game, no matter what level or skill or with what weapon, rushers with machine or sub machine guns were always at the top of the scoreboard. I remember sniping in a DoD map once where I had over 50 kills and was number 1 on the board against skilled players. I was able to advance, find a hiding spot and kill a few enemies before I either got discovered or had to advance more. In Modern Waffle, couldn't really do that. Not to mention you had enemies sometimes spawning more closer to you than they should have. I got frustrated.

All in all, I just felt like every map felt like playing a single map over and over and that that single map was a shitty map. So on top of frustration I also got bored quick.

The argument about the playerbase is obviously moot. Squeakers just piss me off, but did make me hate the game more as it seems to be their number one game with Halo 3 in close second. Why can't they play Legos or something? It should be law that bad parents should not be allowed to let an xbox or mature rated game be a babysitter or nanny for their children. Anyway, mini rant over.

So yeah, maybe still not enough evidence to support my hate on MF, but I stand by my declaration that it is the worst fps series I have played.

 

Best 4: Operation Flashpoint: Resistance, Arma 2 Combined Operations, Jurassic Park: Trespasser, Unreal Tournament 99 (the classic one from 1999)

There's way more great FPS games.

Worst: Carnivores Cityscape

Carnivores Cityscape was just bad.

 

I don't like the new CoD games as whole, but I will say that playing 3v3 team tactical matches with friends in CoD 4: MW, was some of the most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer game.

 

I dont like CoD cause its not my kind of game and i dont enjoy it thats just my opinion.

 

Best> l4d(1,2), Quake(Live), Unreal Tournament, CSS, Wolfenstein, CoD (I like competetive shooters. :'))

Worst> Tribes : Vengeance / Ascend, Crysis(1, 2). Both have a ridicilous hit detection.

 

I actually love Crysis 1 and 2.

 

Oh, the single player is amazing, asbolutely astonashing. I was solely aiming on it's multiplayer function. (That goes for all games mentioned, btw).

 

Oh i was refeering to single-player never even tryed the multi-player.

Best: Team fortress 2/Half life 2, those were and are still so much fun, plus, seeing codfags play it is so much fun.
Mediocre on the worser edge: MW2, its better then black ops and MW3, has the best maps, i dont know why, but multiplayer can be quite fun
Worst: All COD's after MW2, aka, i wont be buying black ops 2, because the first black ops was just there to raise funds for MW3, imo.

worst: Cod online, the ww2 campaigns were pretty awesome tho

I had a lot of fun playing that one, eventually quit though because I raged out too much do to ping differences.

Worst: Halo 3. I haven't played many FPS games, but I played Halo 3 for a good 6 months and decided that the Xbox live ranking system absolutely killed the playability and community of the game. Halo 2 was better.

 

Best: Bioshock, Black Ops, Crysis, Halo, Quake, TF2.

Worst: MW2, MW3, BF3, Ghost Recon, Half Life, Counter Strike, Medal of Honor.

 

Which Medal of Honor are you talking about? The 1999 or 2010 release?

I have fund memories of the Allied Assault and would like to hear your reasoning behind why you don't like it. If it is the one you are talking about, I haven't played the new one.
