KING ARTHURS GOLD- a fan fiction.
    Part 1
The woodlands echoed with the whacks and chops as the men sweating under the sun lopped the trees down. The mines ran deep underground where even more men clothed in simple tunics dug for stone to construct with and gold to purchase more weapons and soldiers. The cleared areas were filled with towers, walls and bulky men in even bulkier armour gathered around chatting or checking weapons and shields. Small stalls and shops were set up selling bombs and arrows and other things of importance to the veteran warriors.
The new recruit stood uneasily near the tent where he had been debriefed, listening to the gentle flap as the wind ruffled the flag and flaps of the canvas shelter. The wind brought other sounds too, the shouts from the forest as another tree was brought down and the clang as the smiths in their forges formed the shapeless metals into shapes of death and destruction.
His name was John Raynes but his code name, they all had one, was Frog. He was equipped with a small sword, a shield that he thought felt to heavy and armour made from tempered steel that still had splatters of blood from where the old owner had paid the full price of service the king. He stiffened as a voice thick with an accent that twinged and twanged said,
“Private Frog what the hell you doing?”
He turned slowly and came eye to breast with an enormous man. He had a sword that looked tiny in his massive gloved hands and a buckler strapped to his left arm. His armour dented, scratched and battered shone with an impressive amount of medals and badges. The man held out a hand that enveloped Frogs own and chuckled,
“The name’s Grey Bear, but most people jus call me Bear”
A slender hand lay on Frogs shoulder and a man who hadn’t been there a second ago grinned and said,
“I’m Whisper pleased to meet you buddy”
Frog studied him. His clothes, a light green tunic, a leather breast plate and a woodsman’s hat perched at a jaunty angle suggested he was ready for about anything. His bow was notched with an arrow and he was bouncing from foot to foot filled with nervous energy. Bear patted Frog on the back and beamed at him,
    “Welcome to the taco squad”
Grinning because Bears smile was infectious and Frog was about to make a remark about the weird name when an arrow thudded into the ground next to him. He ducked as Bear growled and Whisper clenched his bow tighter. Three men stood at ten paces away one held a bow and the others swords and shields all grinning. The one with the bow stepped forward and said,
    “You’ve got my arrow noob”
He gestured at the shaft of wood stuck into the ground by Frog’s feet. Bear looked down at it and sneered,
    “Oh this is yours?”
The smart ass with a bow nodded smugly. Bear smiled at him and snapped it in half before flipping them the rude finger and said,
    “Stuff off”
The one with the bow nodded understandingly before turning away and then he turned back and said,
“Hey where’s that other kid? The one with the blond hair that was with you last week?”
Bear stepped forward and was about to yell when a horn pierced the air and voices from all over the camp starting yelling,
“Over the walls, time to go over the walls.”
All at once drums started beating in a slow rhythm and the camp erupted into activity. Men swarmed out of their chairs grabbing swords, shields and bows. Frog saw them scaling ladders cheering and yelling. War cries sprung up and the group that had been taunting taco squad were swept away in the tide. Bear gripped Frogs arm and propelled him towards the wall with Whisper close behind. They climbed the ladders that hung down from the top of the wall. Just before they reached the very top Bear asked,
“Are you ready for this Frog?”
Frog nodded grimly and Bear smiled, it wasn’t a nice smile and said,
    “No trust me you’re not”
They reached the top and Frog got his first glimpses out into hell.

I liked it as well. I tend not to like fan-fics usually because more often than not it's filled with spelling errors which makes it hard to read. It easy to understand and still a good story. I felt that it was a little short for an introduction since I didn't really get a feel for the personality of the main character yet, but I feel that will also be resolved as the story goes on.

    Part 2
The wind whistled around Frog bringing with it the faint cries and screams from the battle field. The tower wasn’t even high up maybe only ten feet but Frog felt like he could see the whole world. Spread out in front of him like a grotesque chess game charged masses of red shirts, shields and helmets. They spread before crashing into the enormous walls of the fortress on the opposite end of the battle field. Frog could just see flashes of blue scurrying along the walls.
    Bear grinned excitedly and yelled,
    “Come on”
Before leaping off the wall into the mud below with Whisper hot on his heels. Taking one last glance back Frog leapt from the parapets and onto the ground. Sound was muffled a bit down in the mud and the grass. Frog looked for Bear and Whisper but couldn’t find them. The other soldiers surged past him yelling and cheering. He was swept along by the crowd towards the enemy castle.
As he tried to find Bear and Whisper he tripped and fell on something in the ground. It was a shield half buried in the muck and mud. It was smashed and arrows were stuck from it. He rolled it over with his foot and gasped when he saw that a hand was still holding the straps in a death grip. One soldier noticed this and grinned at Frog before pulling the arrows from the derelict defence before continuing to run with the pack.
Someone called his name and he looked up. Bear was sprinting towards him with Whisper not far behind notching an arrow. A yell made him turn around and he realised that the tide of red tunics had past and were further away towards the enemy fortress. As Bear got closer Frog heard him yell,
“The skies look at the bloody sky”
Frog looked and then wished he hadn’t. A volley of arrows hummed over head like a black cloud they whistled through the air like hornets looking for flesh to dig into. Frog dived into a hole and raised his shield above his head. The arrows thudded into his shield making his arm buckle with the force. A strong hand lifted him from his hole and Whisper looking concerned said,
“Come on kid we need to get further up”
Frog nodded and followed closely behind the two older men as they headed further into the chaos. As they went Bear explained how the plan to capture the enemy’s fortress worked. Although his lecture was occasionally interrupted by a volley of arrows or perhaps stones from a catapult Frog got the general idea. The main force charged the front gate while a few select squads (taco squad being one of them) had to try and find an alternative way in and destroy the gates from the inside. They stumbled across trenches and pits shallow graves and fallen trees with gear and bodies stacked against them.
They paused on a hill to watch as another allied force rushed against the main gates. The friendly catapults hurled great pieces of rocks at the walls. Even as they watched a massive piece of masonry smashed down taking down the attackers and defenders alike.
Frog, Bear and Whisper moved from the hill through a small copse of trees. On hearing a noise, Whisper motioned for them to stop. Around them the forest was quiet and muffled compared to on the field. Birds sung softly and the trees cast dappled patterns on the ground. At Whispers command they moved forward again not talking but listening intently, Frog was concentrating so hard on making no noise that when the pit concealed with leaves loomed up below him he almost fell straight onto the bloodied spikes that sat at the bottom like teeth. Bear grabbed him and said in a harsh Whisper,
    “That will get you kill…”
He stopped mid-sentence and stared at the arrow protruding from his chest before swinging his shield up and stopping the second from entering Frogs brain. Whisper dived to the side and shot an arrow off into the tree top where a scream echoed around the forest. And that’s when all hell broke loose. A knight, his tunic blue lumbered out from behind a tree and slashed down at Bear who brought his shield up at the last minute before yelling a war cry and stabbing his sword at his enemy. Whisper downed another archer and ran to where Frog was trying to fend off a Knight dressed in blue with a large helmet. He let loose and arrow but the knight ducked and knocked over Frog with his shield.
Just as the blue knight was about to stab Frog a man came crashing out of the bush screaming at the top of his lungs. He had a scarf that covered his mouth and a hard metal hat on but was dressed in the garb of a builder. He charged the blue knight about to kill Frog and smashed his helmet in this his heavy hammer. Frog smiled his appreciation before jumping in front of the stranger with his shield to stop an arrow. Bear having finished with his assailant ran to were the others were sheltered behind a pile of rocks.
    “Where are the bastard archers?”
He asked Whisper, who shot an arrow into the tree ten paces away and rewarded with a yell of pain nodded in the direction and said,
    “Over there”
Bear stood and pulled a bomb from his pack. He quickly lit it and hurled it into the tree tops before yelling,
    “Hit the decks!”
They all ducked as splinters of wood and stone as well as chucks of meat sprayed out from the detonation sight that left a small crater in the ground. Frog offered his hand to the strange builder and said,
“The names Frog thanks for that,”
    The stranger replied,
    “It’s cool”
Bear looked at him and asked,
    “What’s your name son?”
The man puffed out his chest and grinned,
    “I’m Ghozt”

That was good as well, although I still haven't gotten a feel for where it's heading.

There is a limit to how many characters you can use in a single post, so it won't all fit in one.

  16. I love it :D, you should post the second part next to the first one :)

No, you can't. You just need to ask the mods for the posts after the first.

Anyways, I'll keep reading this, it's peaked my interest.
