Suggest ideas for maps here!

    Got an idea for a map you'd like to see, but you don't want to make it yourself? Maybe I - or someone else - could make it for you! The two main purposes of this thread are to give mapmakers something to do, (And it doesn't get much better than contributing to the community), and to give people who aren't comfortable with making maps a way to see their visions brought to life!

    If you'd like to suggest a map, including the following information would be very helpful:
    1:
    The height/width dimensions of the map. If you're unsure of exactly how big or small you'd like them to be, please try to estimate it to within 100 blocks. Examples: [200x250] or [100-150x200-250]
    2: A rough sketch of the map in MSPaint. No need to go overboard putting hours worth of detail into it; a quick, 30 second drawing should do fine in most cases.

    If you'd like to suggest a map to a specific member, please contact one of the mapmakers listed below! If you'd like to be on the list of mapmakers who are on standby to make maps for other people, just post below saying so and I'll add ya to the list. And, if you'd like to be removed at any time, just post again saying so!

    (Instead of making a separate thread for this, I thought it might be better to post this here:

    Does anyone have a server they'd be willing to use to help me test a new map I've made? I'd do it myself, only I use windows, not linux, and since the only server hosting format right now is linux... Yeah, bit of a problem for me. So! Can anyone help with this? Without giving too much away: depending on just one or two design decisions, there's a very high potential for griefing on this map *if* I overlooked something, so I'd really like to test this on a multiplayer server to make sure I didn't. Testing it in single player sandbox mode isn't enough since you're forced to play as a builder, unable to change classes, as far as I know.)

    I wouldn't be able to, but individual server owners would be able to, yes.

    Hmm general idea I could use maps for us a map with 5 tents, the general idea for long matches (lots of resources) to ensure it takes quite some time for the match, can post an mspaint but in general the layout doesn't matter :p

    A map with 5 tents..? I've never tried intentionally adding more than 1 tent for red and blue to use. How would that work?

    To my experience, no tents will spawn.

    Well actually it turns out that the extra tents don't spawn flags anymore :( (Sucks) so the idea won't work :/

    The idea was that I set it so that one tent won't spawn more than one flag, meaning that they'd have to get each one to win.

    Ah, alright. And I've had the same results as Monsteri - whenever I place tents on a map then load the map in-game, the tents appear as a dirt background wall. I've yet to test this in multiplayer, though.

    We can get multiple tents to spawn on luigi's server, but not multiple flags.
    I, myself, have no clue if it has something to do with server configs or not.

    I would like a map that takes battle entirely underground, would be fun to be able to tunnel without constantly jumping back up to attempt to stop someone who stole your flag.

    Did you mean something like this? If not, could you be more specific about the layout of the map, please, like what you'd want the dimensions to be, and perhaps a quick sketch like this one?

    actually, The tents should be at different points underground and you should need to tunnel to get around, also add stone and gold veins, bedrock chunks to block paths... etc. the top should be a flat surface with trees but bases should be relatively far underground.

    An all underground map would be awesome if we could do it with multiple teams. It could play out like a risk type game, strategically ganging up on some, while strategically not borrowing to others else opening your own base up to attack.

    Alright; I understand all of that except "The tents should be at different points underground." Do you mean both of them should be at different positions compared to the way they are now, or do you mean only one of them should be moved relative to the other, as in give one a distinct height advantage over the other?

    Thing is we could, as the experimental server proved multiple teams is a reality, but the 3+ teams would all spawn in the top centre of the map meaning they would dig down whilst the other teams dig around below them.


    it means they should not be a straight line away from each other, place on team just below the middle of the map and the other a bit above the bottom.

    Only problem is all underground maps stalemate quickly since you cant collapse structures :(

To be honest, I wouldn't feel comfortable making a map where I give one side a height advantage over the other, unless I focused on that as a central idea for how the map should be played, and tried to give the team at a lower elevation their own advantages to keep things balanced.
