Haha, very true. Didn't think about that one thoroughly since I was eating and writing ^-^ But I still think that you shouldn't be able to be every class in the game. I mean, you should have a position that people would want you for and value you for.

I say some things can be skills, and you can have a certain amount of skills you can learn, like cooking, smithing, tailoring, etc. And maybe server owners can have a limit to how many of each unit can be created at a time in their server? That way if Knight is incredibly popular, we won't be flooded with a million of them and 1 builder.

How about a weight or some other inventory system that limits how many items you can hold? Certain items weigh alot or you can only possess a few of each type of item. That way you can jam a bunch of different class-ability items in your pockets at once, but you can't have the equipment for more than a few classes and you have to compromise if you want to take more specialized stuff and non-class related items.

This is what I don't like about the way the overworld is looking at the moment. Basically, to actually have fun by playing more diverse roles, you have to devote such a large amount of time to the game, because the game is active 24/7, and is constantly changing. This, I also experienced when I played Minecraft multiplayer; I couldn't keep up with the game because from day to day, entire cities would be built, and the commotion will have died down once I finally get on to play.

I'm hearing a lot of people mention stuff like this, but it's horribly unreasonable. No normal player is going to willingly sit in captivity, not even for the sake of roleplaying, when they logged on with the intention of having fun.

Honestly, all of the suggestions here are making the overworld seem like the early school days in which kids would play cops n' robbers or guns; everyone exaggerated their power, and no-one ever wanted to get caught or get killed.

In my opinion, I see it like medieval times. There are some concepts that are absurd like the jails. But I'm pretty sure people mean roleplaying wise. People need to differentiate the two. And nobody said these are going to be in. Just discussion.

Of course no one wants to die if it means perma-death. And no, the Overworld is not looking catastrophically casual, so things will happen without you. To solve this, host your own server or have a journal item. It will log all important events and you can just read it when you get back the next day or whatever.

Screw jails, I want to build a gallows, or a Guillotine, and load enemy heads into catapults.

Honestly, All the Classes will probably be available to each character. You wouldn't have to be Stuck as a peasant, but rather you will change your role to suit your needs. Just as the current game entails.

From my understanding, you will be able to focus and develop a class into an advanced class. with means you will have specialists and jack of all trades.

all in all, very very exciting.

Peasants are anyone not of nobility, so it doesn't matter what class they are, they are still peasants.

    Nobles > descended from peasants.
Original noble was just some dude that took power by force.

I dunno about you guys, but I REALLY want to fight zombies right now.

Well, all we can do is wait until they release it or tell us when they're releasing it.

I'm not to keen on the permadeath. I blow myself up with bombs too much to survive long in a world like this.

You know what? I get by as a somewhat decent knight, and hardly ever use bombs!
Seriously, some people use bombs far too much, or at least for the wrong purposes.
Like, fast travel is one thing, if they're running away with your bomb, but constantly using bombjump just to make it to the action one second faster is a dumb waste.
Hopefully bombs will be much harder to come by in the final release.

It's not like I always enter the battlefield without a bomb. I can do without and the majority of the I do. The fact is, bombs kill in one hit. All it takes is one mistake and everything you've accomplished in the overworld is gone. Surviving in the overworld for a long period of time is not feasible with a weapon that can kill in one shot be it from an enemy or a mistake.

Eh, I think you'll get used to it.
Recently, I've been challenging myself to beat Minecraft, on hardcore, in 20 or less hours of gameplay per attempt. Yes, everything tries to kill you, but you become less attached to each character, and more attached to the journey. You tell yourself how awesome you are when you work hard and get a portal to the nether in your first hour, and laugh when you walk through it only to get hit in the face by a ghast, and knocked into a lava-lake.
My point is that in games with perma-death, you live for the moment. Sure it's good to have something that you're working towards, but that's not the entire aim of the game. You enjoy the place that you're currently at, development-wise.

Wonkyth. Almost every bomb I use I get a kill with, why wouldn't I want to use bombs all the time?

Well if there's going to be character progression, I'm sure there will be strict limits on such a powerful item. Maybe a skill that halves anything that has 'lethal' damage. Or something along those lines.

Oh, I'm fine with people getting kills with them, but I see so many people waste them. Like, using a bomb to collapse a structure is a far better use than killing a guy or two, generally.
