    I would like to use this thread to address some common misconceptions about the appropriate use of tunnels. While there have been instances of a tunnel saving the day, such occurrences are rare, and typically result in enemies flooding through a well-covered path that said tunnelers graciously built for them.

    With the possible exception of a well-designed trap (another discussion altogether), any removal of blocks below ground level ultimately weakens the defensive qualities of the surrounding terrain. Even mining out the wrong place can spell defeat. As such, tunnels can be a very effective tool against enemy towers. SO! LONG! AS! they start at or near the front-lines of battle.

    If you need to fortify BOTH sides of the flag, and your enemy doesn't, you've already lost.

    Tunnelers typically have one of four goals in mind:
    • Weaken the base of a tower
    • Damage valuable workshops
    • Circumvent a tower altogether
    • Sneak into the flag room
    The latter two cases will put you into an uphill battle. Time your exit carefully.

    Careful use of spikes can make a difference. Knights will disarm them if they can, and even a single enemy builder can take control if you're not careful. Unfortunately, this means that large traps underground are typically more effort than they're worth, unless they've already been dug out by ongoing skirmishes.

    Teamdoors and blocked tunnels are fairly ineffective, because knights can usually cut them down or dig around them.

    By reinforcing every other block in your tunnel, knights have a much harder time breaking into your tunnels.

    And then to cap it off, as above, leaving the access tunnel open to deal with further intruders. Blue now has cover against enemy archers with which to advance.

    This is a very well thought out "Tunnel" guide.

    If everyone read this we might have a problem. I would say "oh no there digging a tunnel to us!" instead of "lol there digging a tunnel to us, lets use it!"

    Great guide though Terry. I don't know why people think that you should dig into the enemies tunnel from the side instead of above, it just makes more sense to me, but eh.

    Nah! You guys don't know what you're talking about. Lets just put half of our team uderground and spend the entire game making a tunnel from our flag to the middle of the battlefield. And we can reinforce it with DOORS!

    regular "Acavado" spikes are broken in this build, because when you hit spikes that are facing down on the roof they do no damage. That is if you're talking about Acavado spikes:

    Nice illustration, the strategy behind tunnels is very important. Hopefully this thread will make more people aware just exactly what they're doing when they start a tunnel.

    The only thing that is off is:

    "A blue builder tries to dig into the mountain and is quickly TAB-KICKED by his teammates."

    This never happens, the builder usually completes the tunnel before anyone notices. :(

    Also I thought we were on topic, I thought rainbows was talking about using Acavado spikes in tunnels. Sorry if I went off topic. X3

    Here's a rough design of a quick, easy trap for tunnels. I suggest making these every 20 tiles or so, so that if breached they don't get far, and your team has time to come to the rescue.

    They cost a minimum of 70 stone, 80 wood. The design you see below costs 120 wood, 150 stone.

    To make it even more effective, simply add a 5 deep, 2 wide pit covered in with trap bridges with one layer of spikes on the bottom.

    The idea behind this is; A knight is tempted to break the door. Most don't look for the spikes, especially when hidden like so. They leap and slash, get hurt, and then have to sit and wait for a builder to come help. Obviously, the more stone lining the walls of the tunnel, the better for these situations, but remember; every structure is only to delay and hurt the enemy. If you're designing something to win the game odds are it'll take so long with so many resources you'll end up hurting the team. Far better to have a few useful structures rather than one half finished perfect one

    These used to be cheaper but one spike doesn't hurt anymore (I think),

    today i built some very long tunnels to enemy base 75% of time i won.. >.< are my enemies noobs or what?
    one of those times i dug a tunnel to the entrance of the other base and no one was there due to having an outpost in the front lines. i could of got block however there were spikes in the way which killed me. what i find rediculous is how some people never use them EVER. i buld a tunnel then i tell some body to come down here but they never come here....
    Edit: also all your things seem to be about small tunnel what about the long as s onew how we counter those?
    edit 2 i ALMOST WON by digging a tunnel to the other base
    they were lucky some new guy showed up

    Yes, there are a lot of newbies right now, which is why:

    1.) Most won't listen to you
    2.) Newbie tactics can work against newbie teams

    If you had tried this about 2 days ago (before all the new people came), chances are your tunnel would have cost your team your game as the other team would have used it against you.

    That looks like a good stopper to put up in a tunnel Beef! It uses a lot of wood though, and down in the tunnels wood is scarce.
