So,we are getting lightning and darkness.
But that also means the following.
Underground tunnels will be darker, impossible to see where they lead to unless you are in em(tunnels).
How would you counter those tunnels?
Show me a screenshot of what you think would be a wise way to stop them without detecting the tunnel just when they make an exit.

You could make a counter tunnel by putting in your own branching tunnels and putting lamps at the end of them so you can see enemies trying to tunnel in.

Yes, you could but wouldn't enemies seeing that also get the idea to tunnel to there so they would have less work.
Also making potentially deadly traps on their way?

They might do but thats why you line your branching tunnels with stone, leaving the lantern in a single hole.

Yes but wouldn't they still have the advantage of traps if they made it in your tunnel and you go to meet them.(I've taken a liking to make things harder).

If you plug up your tunnel with stone I doubt they will try to use it.

If we are talking about a single or triple layer, i think a few explosives will do.

Well at the very least, it's one way to "counter" tunnels, even if they get the idea to use the ones you created.

Because if they do that then you know that they're there and you can get to them before they reach the surface (if that happens you're screwed)

But anyway, will anyone will be creating a tunnel in the dark? You can't see to make one!

Of course. The blues shall not see me until my arrows have torn them to shreds! Even then, with difficulty. :3

If you're playing people who are actually good the idea of tunneling doesn't make any sense at all. It's just not worth taking one or more of your guys out of the main conflict to make something which can be easily plugged up and can even be used by your enemies.

Versus baddies it doesn't really matter since as they're bad you can just kill them however you like. In fact I'm glad tunneling is getting a boost.

I wonder how strong a keg is and what mats would be needed to make one. I can imagine kegs used to easily take down small forts huh.

There are many concepts we can think of to counter a tunnel ,but unless the build is released, it is very hard to have any concrete ideas.

@Contrary: I like tunnels only when it is used to bypass strongly enforced fort. Especially the ones that have been slowly carved by bombs.

Guy Fawkes stuff all over it seems, would be fun to see other teams reaction to this.

I know but i just like the idea of being able to sabotage a fort in the darkness while everyone up there fights for a flag.
As for that question earlier, according to some files BlueLuigi fished up a while ago the kegs will cost 50G.
And i have no doubt it will explode very violently, after all its a huge and heavy keg to carry...

I found the best way to block tunnels is to built a spike pit in front of it at the start of the game, but this requires good prediction and brainstorming. However, other good methods like plugin it with stone or building an upwards shaft to allow archers and explosive users to exploit the diggers.
