Posting screenshots would pique people's interests and make them more apt to try it out. ;)

The last time I posted pictures about a very cool game, someone else started a flame war just because he disliked that game.
Maybe posting pictures about a game gives bad luck.

No, I think it is a lucky charm. I honestly didn't even check the game out. My interest wasn't piqued. Anywho, your thread. Wouldn't want to get into an argument or anything. Shalom!

To be honest, after playing the game for some hours I said to myself, Nahh.
I don't like it, will return to my beloved Dwarf Fortress. :)
I dislike turn based games, but if you do like them here is a perfect chance to try a high quality one out.

  7. DD isn't "a RPG like Dungeon game" but a rougelike.

In fact it's far closer to a puzzle game!
The free version was my solitaire replacement for quite some time, as it offers a similar chance of having an unwinnable setup, but is fun nonetheless! :D
I've been sitting on the fence about buying the new version, but it'll happen eventually! ^_^

Definitely more of a puzzle game. I've played the free version for months, and I love it. The fact that you can play as dozens of different classes, each with their own strengths and weaknesses and different game modes... It's amazing.

Why don't people like this? ESPECIALLY over Dwarf Fortress? I can see DF being very involving and engrossing, but it's SO HARD to get into at first. I've tried many times.

I actually haven't played Desktop Dungeons for months... Think I'm gonna go play myself a few games. ;)

Sucks that I only get to play the beta for a little longer... WAY more advanced than the free version I have!

I'll probably pirate it, but one question; Why should I play this and not any other roguelike? I mean, I enjoy roguelikes in general, but if this is just IVAN or Stone Soup, give or take a few items or features, I don't really think I'm going to play it.

It's hard to explain, especially since they overhauled everything, but there's tons of classes, races, quests, etc. Plus it's not EXACTLY a roguelike... There's a lot more strategy and puzzle solving involved; the object is to kill off the boss of each dungeon (or whatever the quest implies) and escape with it. Bonus points for killing all the enemies in the dungeon. Tons of glyphs (spells), different items, equipment items, each race has benefits and detriments to each class... A lot of techniques need to be employed to play the game efficiently.

I really like it, at least.

First: Pirating from indies is a fucking dickmove. No I will not soften my words, because that's what it is. Just don't. ;)
Second: While it uses a similar mold to a roguelike, it isn't actually a roguelike. It's a puzzle game. In my mind, it's actually closer to the DROD series of games, in that the combat is only another part of the puzzle.

BTW, if you like puzzle games at all, you should definitely check DROD out. It was the highest-rated puzzle game on Home Of The Underdogs, before all that stuff got wiped.

  16. In DD you beat a single dungeon in less than 10 minutes.
