I had been meaning to making a standalone thread for a while, but I think this will do. It will only concern what is pertinent to the topic of this thread.

I come here, representing the my own community, which I would rather remain nameless (despite there being ways to find out... but anyways). I am their spokesman, so to speak. From late december, all the way through to March, righ up to the moment the Zombie update was released, we've enjoyed KAG immensely. So much, that at one time we had two 48-man servers packed for most hours of any given day.

However, ever since the Zombie update, many people have decided to abandon the game entirely. Upon asking them why they decided to do so, I found that most people found several of the things that made KAG a fun game to play were gone, in lieu of paving the way for exclusive paid content. Despite the fact that it isn't true, many have also been led to believe that, because of the obtrusive advertisement in the game's title screen, that the game has also gone P2W (Pay To Win).

It has also come to my attention that bomb jumping was also severely nerfed. And, as a matter of fact, bombs in general, being uncapable of instantly killing and gibbing anything caught in the explosion.

Of the many factors that have driven our community away from the game was the introduction of the lighting system. Not exclusive to our community, I think everyone who's played the game has found joy in making tunnels as a way to design pathways towards enemy territory, as well as to find gold and stone. Exclusive to premium players, however, are lanterns. And because travelling blindly through tunnels and building barracks everywhere just to keep them lit is quite a nuance, many people have opted not to play anymore.

I personally have a problem with this too. Not because I'm not premium (which I am), but because it's driving away the people I enjoy playing with the most.

Would it be possible to add an option to toggle either the old and new lighting system in the next patch? Or at least grant the option to map makers or server admins to spawn premium-exclusive items in limited quantities, for use on any given server, be it premium or not?

If not, would you please make previous builds available for everyone (both client and server)? Should you find yourself in the position of not wanting to listen to any of my communitie's needs, at least grant us the possibility of playing in previous versions. I would hope it didn't come down to this, though.

It is becoming increasingly harder for me to convince people to play. And even moreso to purchase the game. It is quite unfortunate, but most of our community has shown itself reluctant to pay for a game that is incomplete. I cannot blame then either. We've supported at least 2 projects before, which either betrayed us for another community, or completely bailed on us and ran off with our money.

So I come to you with this problem. There is nothing in particular I can do to convince you to fix anything of which I lay here. But I felt necessary to at least try and voice my opinion, in hopes that you help us.

Regardless of wether you read this or not, our entire community would like to thank you for all the good times you have granted us for the last few months.

Thank you, and have a nice day.

    - Krono

First, Premium don't have any extra to be stronger than normal players.
Secondly, the advertisement in the game's title screen is just here, when you play, you will never have it. It's normal for a free game to promote a little bit the premium side.

No offense but L2P. Bomb jumping was OP to begin with and needed a nerf. Even with the nerf it's very powerful when done right. I can jump the same height and almost the same horizontal distance as before when bomb jumping from a high area to another. It's just a case of doing the technique right, you have to at the very least be on top of the bomb and holding shield down, even better is if you jump over it just before it blows up with shield down as well.

As for bombs not instantly killing people, pfff, I still get +4 bomb kills from time to time, and most bombs I buy I end up using to get at least one kill. Seriously, people complain because they're not good at the techniques or the game, not because stuff is actually unfair.

You raise several good points, but of those, I think this is the most important. I, myself, will be pushing for this option, because it really does ruin f2p servers. At the very least, give the lanterns to f2p!

As for bombs, They were really overpowered, they had an insane radius that instakilled anyone in it. Bombjumping was too easy, and people who were only playing for a day could easily learn it. As Neat said, if you know how to do it, you can still go the same distance.

I also enjoyed the servers you speak of, even though I do not come from your community.

    Hey Krono,

First and foremost, bombs were nerfed because they had a giant instant kill radius and were unbalanced. It had nothing to do with the incoming full version content.

Secondly, the lighting; this is a big issue. I'm trying to convince Michal that legacy lighting would be a good idea to include but its a hard thing to convince him on - it'd mean supporting two lighting models in the already inside-out tilemap code. We may cave and just include lanterns in classic, we're not sure yet.

Its a shame to hear that people get the impression that KAG is P2W, considering that's something we're very strongly against. I feel that it's partly their fault for not looking into whether their assumptions are correct or not.

Previous builds aren't something we can offer - we don't have most of the compatible assets any more and recompiling across 3 systems and recreating all the old assets is something that we're simply not prepared to do, it'd be 50+ working hours and would produce only a nostalgia archive. The old builds will still work for some time, though that master is likely to break compatibility at some point as functionality is provided by the new API. You can probably find some littered around the internet.

I'm very glad to hear you've enjoyed the game. Tell your friends (and note yourself) that their complaints aren't falling on deaf ears.

    ~Max

Yeah, I have no idea what it might be. Is it what the lighting used to be like?

    Legacy (definition):

    1. anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor orpredecessor: the legacy of ancient Rome.

    2. Law . a gift of property, especially personal property, as money, by will; a bequest.

    3. an applicant to or student at a school that was attended by his or her parent.

    4. Obsolete . the office, function, or commission of a legate.

So yes, legacy lighting would be the old style lighting.

I'd like to agree with everything Krono said. The free version needs lanterns. And having the legacy option available would be nice too.

They can always get the plain lanterns and not the colored ones.

I think Free-Players should get legacy lighting and Premium gets the new lighting. But it's like on ther servers too so if a premium member is on a free server than that would still be legacy lighting for them.
