So, Carver and I were discussing music we dig in one of Jaedong's servers, and I know we already have a "What music do you listen to while you play KAG," thread. This is more of a general music thread in general.

I wanna know what type of shit you guys listen to. Punk, metal, electronic, folk, country, rap, etc.

Here's a couple suggestions for all the different types of shit I listen to.

Rock/Punk (considered Post hardcore in some genre-obsessed sects)

    Hands Like Houses

    Closure In Moscow

Both of these fine bands are from the same area of Australia and have moved stateside to be on rather large record labels (HLH = Rise Records and CIM = Equal Vision afaik). They both have a similar sound, and while Hands Like Houses has become a recent obsession of mine, Closure In Moscow has been a favorite of mine for a few years. We Want Guarantees might be one of the most incredibly well written songs I've ever heard, and it has so much intensity and melody to it, every member is 100% on point and it sounds phenomenal. Hands Like Houses are slowly building up quite a fanbase as well, and both bands put out an album that does not have a single bad song. Period.

    Anathallo

Now Anathallo is a special case. Anathallo is, in my mind, a life-changing band. They sound like a marching band run amok, and are some of the tightest and most talented musicians in our generation. They have so many off the wall instruments in their songs (steel chains to keep the fucking rhythm!) but it fits so well. They're both beautiful and awe-inspiring. Gorgeous, stunning... Amazing. That's the best way to describe them. If you are a musician or have any interest in music in general, give them a listen.

    3 Inches Of Blood

3 Inches Of Blood is an anomaly. The fact that they exist in this day and age as opposed to back in the 70s is beyond me. They sound a lot like Judas Priest meets Iron Maiden, and it is PHENOMENAL. They have been releasing consistent material since 2000, and there is not a black sheep out of the five full length albums and three EPs. A MUST for old school metal lovers.
Soilwork is of the "gothenburg" style Swedish metal craze, and they are goddamned GOOD at what they do. I highly suggest it just for the fact that they're insanely talented, their guitar work is almost inhuman.

    A Wilhelm Scream

A Wilhelm Scream is the only normal punk band I'm gonna mention. There are 3 things every punk band needs; fast, catchy, and fucking raw. 5 to 9 is the type of track I used to listen to when I got pissed off at whatever was wrong IRL, and it's fucking amazing. It's always amazing.

So, fellow KAGites, tell me your favorites! Provide some samples! I'd love to hear what ya'll dig!

Mathcore, as in shit like Dillinger Escape Plan and Behold! The Arctopus? Those guys are sick.

    A few more...

    Fireworks

    Transit

    Set Your Goals

SEE ALSO; The Last American Virgin

Fireworks is where my list goes off into "pop punk" territory, but pop punk has a very different guise nowadays. Pop punk isn't retarded shit like My Chemical Romance or Fall Out Boy, it's stuff like this. Fireworks is one such awesome and truly heartfelt pop punk band. Decline Of A Midwestern Civilization was pretty much what my breakup with my ex-fiancee was like, and it's a great song. It makes me sad sometimes, but it's another song that got me through. They're a must listen if you're a fan of pop punk.

Transit is a band that is in kind of uncharted waters in terms of pop punk. They have a much lighter, more heartfelt approach to pop punk than Fireworks and Set Your Goals does, but it's fucking incredible. They have much softer tones going on in their music and much more emotional undertones, it's not all about girls either. A big subject for these guys is friendship and brotherhood, as heard in the song Long Lost Friends. Excellent. EXCELLENT.

Finally is one of my top 5 favorite bands, Set Your Goals. These guys pretty much gave birth to the new pop punk, the type that makes you want to mosh during their songs and provide gang vocals with the singers on stage. Mutiny expresses displeasure for bands that "sell their souls" to modern record companies. The Last American Virgin is a new track off their latest album (out of 3 I believe) that is just catchy as all hell. It's the type of song you play in your car on a beautiful summer day with all your windows down, cruising down the highway and singing along. Truly great stuff.

    My favorite band:

    THE FLAMING LIPS

Keep in mind this is there most poppy album(though it is the best album) and their other stuff is more neo-pyschidelic.

    DANNY BROWN

Some more recent rap I've been listening to

Love The Flaming Lips, that album and beyond. Remember Steve Burns from Blue's Clues? Dude started writing music like that and it's really good.

My boys from New York released an EP from their band The Walking Tree called Glorious. And it's up for free download here. It's actually ridiculously good, has a mewithoutYou sound meets like slow rock and pretty decent technical guitars. Nice and chill. Considering their last band was a shitty metalcore band, this is a HUGE step up.

I've been all busy listening to Sabaton's latest song on repeat. It is so damn epic, everything I wanted it to be.

For those that don't know. Sabaton is a heavy/power metal band from Falun, Sweden, it was created back in 1999. Mostly all their song lyrics are inspired by different historical battles.

Not too long ago they announced their seventh album named "Carolus Rex." This particular album will focus on the events that took place during the Great Northern War, following the Swedish king, Karl the twelfth, nicknamed Carolus Rex.

I was a bit worried, Sabaton is my favourite album, and more or less out of the blue several members of the band left. I feared for the survival of Sabaton. But luckily they found several replacements really quickly.

I am really looking forward to the new album. Eleven songs in total, both with a Swedish and English version. If the other songs hold the same standard as the song they've released, then I will be more than happy. Sabaton's albums are usually very consistent in terms of quality.

Here are some lyrics, translated into english, I threw together on the spot. It is not complete just quite yet. Still a few segments I am unsure about.

WE SAW THE WRITINGS ON THE WALL
WHEN HEATHENS RULED OVER US ALL
TORMENTED, WE STILL HEARD THE CALL

YOU COME TO BRING US DOWN
WIELD THE SCEPTER, STEAL THE CROWN
TIME ON THE THRONE IS RUNNING OUT

'CAUSE SEASONS CHANGE, BUT WE ARE STILL THE SAME
EVEN THOUGH THE COLD WINDS BLOW, THE FIRE BURNS INSIDE

HEARTS ON FIRE, HEARTS ON FIRE
    BURNING, BURNING WITH DESIRE
HEARTS ON FIRE, HEARTS ON FIRE
    BURNING, BURNING WITH DESIRE
HEARTS ON FIRE, HEARTS ON FIRE
    BURNING, BURNING WITH DESIRE
    BURNING FOR THE STEEL
    HEARTS ON FIRE

I, too, love the Lips, I would say my favorite album is Clouds Taste Metallic.
    My favorite band:
    Umphrey's Mcgee

They tend to be thought of as a jamband, but I would argue that you can really only classify them as Improvisational Prog, which really isn't a classification, more of an umbrella term.

Hey Chinizz this isn't the good songs thread, if you wanna recommend music you gotta post a few sentences about the song and the band. Clearly that is a joke song but it is more suited for the Good Songs thread
