Does anyone else think the gold ends up ruining the game?

You got an epic battle going on and suddenly the game ends.

The worst part is that the most boring team is always the winner.
Who prefers digging gold like a zombie instead of fighting and building stuff?

(Also, knights and archers should dig a lot slower)

Some people enjoy the mining. I definitely don't.
As a builder I never search out gold.
If I loot someone and there's gold I'll take it back....rarely.

When a round ends, I don't think many people feel like one team won or lost due to the gold.
People remember how the fights went and determine the win that way.

First to destroy their enemies designated structure? Count me in.

We're very likely to add game modes not centred around digging very soon, we've just had to delay all the fun stuff for the anti-hacking/griefing updates. Destroy the designated structure might work, We'll likely build dedicated TDM, CTF and INF modes soon for more combat-orientated play.

No rush! Doin a great job.

I like the idea of amassing the most gold to win, but I think it's more the maps at fault than anything.
Gold is underneath bases, so there's no need for the builders to venture past their lines.
Forcing builders to dig in the center of map for gold while their buddies protect them would make the gold seem a lot more meaningful. Especially having it stolen.

I too prefer the combat side of the game.

Oh I hope you add those modes, especially INF! But like bilbs said, no rush ;)

And perhaps something king of the hill style, as in holding a certain area for a certain period of time.

Well as the devlog says, we're actually thinking about adding CTF as the base mode of the game, so an INF mode isn't too far off :)

I think it might be ''Infiltration''. This is basically when 1 team has a flag/intel/whatever, and the other team has to capture it and bring it back to their own base.

Anywho, keep up the great work on the game lads. I'm really loving it so far.

hmmmm, another good mode would be the complete opposite. Your team needs to take the gold sacks TO THE ENEMY ROOM and win. How does that sound?

I like the idea of gold sacks. It basically turns the game into sort of a CTF, except you can change your "flags' spawn point", and you can also capture your own "flags" back. This element of the game should definitely stay.

As for actually mining gold - I definitely don't like the whole "spend the entire game digging tunnels under your base" part. So the alternatives could be:
    A) no gold blocks on the map at all. Just gold sacks on each team's bases.
    B) a few gold deposits very close to the surface, closer to the middle of the map.
    C) mining machines that you'll have to capture or build. Gold could be mined automatically as long as you control the mine, or have the builders operate the machines somehow.

Here's a concept of how a mining machine could work if a builder operates it:

To prevent mining machines from being used for tunnel digging, the drills would not destroy blocks. Instead they could go through all blocks and only destroy gold blocks.
To prevent machines being used as weapon against tunellers, the drill's speed could be very slow and the drill could be possible to destroy (if that happens - the cord would have to be pulled back up and a new drill would need to be crafted).

My personal favorites are B and C with automatic mines.

But the game's called King Arthur's Gold. Without the Gold in there, it's just King Arthur's!

    Agree.

If you think stealing gold is too hard or impossible because of a good defense on the opposite team, you can disturb the enemy diggers attacking them underground where they are often alone and defenseless. And remember that every enemy fighting is not digging!

    Gold is good!
