Instead of using an image for every single arrow/log/stone/etc in your inventory, how about just using numbers?
    So it would be

    [wood icon] - 30
    [arrow icon] - 25
    [bomb icon] - 4
    [heart icon] - 100%

Because 50 arrow icons on top of the screen really get in the way. :/

I kinda like that idea, either way I'm okay with.
Just have the icon and then the number in invent?
    Yeah, decent idea.

Would be a lot easier to figure out how much of what you have left and what you need for sure! Sitting there and counting every piece of wood/stone to see if I'll run out of something before I finish building it can be a bit of a hassle.

I don't know I kind of like it this way. Its different

Maybe after you have a certain amount of items it can be converted to a numeric counter just as you suggest? This way the screen doesn't get clogged up and it still looks cool!

A tally score system possibly, where it shows a different icon for 5 of a single material, or however many should be grouped together. I also find myself wasting ground resources by accidentally still digging when my stuff is full. The flashing icons are not bad, but maybe something a little more noticable, or even a sound cue, could help a little.

Though that's some serious nit-picking there.
