Okay, so this is carried on from a little discussion we had over in this thread.

Here's a breakdown of the key points:
    • We need tutorials because the game is confusing to newbies[/*]
    • Tutorials rapidly become outdated with new builds[/*]
    • Its a lot easier to film a good, concise video with a team of people instead of hoping to stumble into an appropriate scenario[/*]

Some of us have even taken part in group filming as part of czubai's secret community project. Its fun to do and it works pretty well.

So what we'd like to do is come up with a set of lessons that would be useful in a tutorial and film each of them as a discrete scene.
We could then either release them individually or package them up into tutorial videos, I'm currently not sure which is best.

This would make it a lot easier to deal with changes in new builds as we would only have to replace those lessons that have had a change made to them (we'll definitely not be doing it till the next build is ready as everything is changed visually).

So the first order of business is to decide on the tutorial content, the lessons.
I propose that we split the lessons into 3 sections: basic (what you absolutely have to know to play the game properly, i.e. controls and basic game concepts), intermediate (going into more depth on each class) and advanced (all those little things that are easily missed like tossing bombs back, shield-pushing corpses out of doors, etc.).
I'll maintain a list of the proposed lessons in this post.

After we've decided on what we're going to film... We'll film it!
So we're going to need folks whom are willing and able to take part in filming.
Plus, if you're capable of filming then that's even better!
The more people we have taking part, the quicker we'll get the videos done.

It would also be useful to have folks whom are happy to do voice work.
We want to add the voice after post-recording instead of during it so you don't have to be available whilst its going on.
Native English speakers are preferred (though we'll also be doing subtitles to make it easier for everyone to understand).

Being able to host a private server for us would also be useful.

If you would like to take part (or suggest a lesson) please post here.

If someone can clearly explain how I can do a voice over as opposed to voicing during the action i'll do it. I currently use Fraps for my recording and Virtualdub + xvid to edit and compress the videos produced by fraps. I don't really want to add too many more programs to add in the voiceover and record it too. I do have audacity though. I couldn't figure out how to put audacity files onto the video in Virtualdub while still retaining the videos original audio source.

EDIT: scratch that I don't use dubit. It's a different program. Give me a moment to try and find it. It's been so long since i've used it that I forgot what it was called... Virtualdub, I use virtualdub. I've edited my post to reflect this.

I think even Windows Movie Maker can do it, google it. :) I can't help you, I do it in my studio software.

I recommend Camtasia Studio, personally. And if you lack WMM, you can get it easily from multiple places such as Cnet

Does camtasia studio allow you to put the voiceover in without dropping the speakers output? Because that was the problem I encountered with virtualdub. Same with windows movie maker, though I could always just voiceover the final compressed product, wouldn't add that much to the video. (or compress it twice)

Reaper. It supports video, just add your voice as another track. Requires some basic DAW knowledge, I'm not gonna spam this thread with it so if you could get on gTalk, IRC or something.. ;)

Or watch this vid - http://youtu.be/vtEZ3yregsA

If anyone wants to explain it to me on the KAG irc i'll login soon, just trying to sort out rcon for gamingcrew server. I don't have a clue what DAW is so I won't go into reaper, prefer if Torchic explained camtasia studio to me.

I used to use jaycut.com to do it - it let you add your voiceover in as a separate stream to the existing audio.

However, they have been bought by RIM and don't accept new accounts anymore.

It has a tutorial in it. Also, czu explained it well. Add your voice as a second track.

How many people will be on the server at one time and is there a particular software I need to host a server? Otherwise I can host servers.

I have downloaded virtualdubmod which allows multiple tracks of audio, plus I have audacity. So I can recording with post rather than pre commentary now.

I want to add some ideas for the type of tutorial lessons but dinners ready so i'll do so after. Probably will be a big post.

I think I should be able to host a temp server, my Internets is awesome.
    Can record, using xfire.
Can use voice, have to make a skype account though. (not a problem)

That shouldn't be necessary as you just need to be able to record to your computer.

Wouldn't it be better to have one person responsible for the channel? Or a small team. Otherwise it might create some situations we don't want to happen..

All you need is in KAG normal download, configure it with the .gm files in the base/scripts directory, run with dedicated.exe (something like that) in the main directory.
