Also want to throw TeeWorlds out there. Its a 2d sidescrolling team shooter a lot like Soldat except grappling hooks and not jetpacks.

A decent argument for F2P being bad:
"Everything about F2P makes me sick. It's smoke and mirrors, and invades game design like a cancer, destroys modding, I don't want to see it. If you're a designer who builds game concepts around micro-transactions you're a businessman trying to make money, not a designer. Sorry!" - Chris Simpson, Project Zomboid developer.

EDIT: To make it more clear, his reasoning is that F2P is about getting people to pay money through trickery, rather than through the merits of the game. The idea is that since the game doesn't need to be good to get sales, and rather just has to get money out of people who are already playing it, any idea of the quality of the game being forefront is thrown out the window.

 

Most F2P games I have ever played and liked, I ended up putting more $$$ into than it would have cost to buy a similar game outright :P

 

TBH, I've had trouble liking any where I couldn't get all that was required for fun just in the vanilla. T:A and TF2, two which I've played much, require no payments, so bummer for the 'moneygrabbing businessmen'! :P

 

Yeah most done REQUIRE payments but I dont like the huge grinds associated with them and if Im having fun I end up spending lots of money (which is exactly what they are aiming for).

 

i hate grinding. One of those most annoying things ever. if you can make grinding fun then that person will have done the impossible.

Yeah League of Legends and TF2 are the best examples of F2P done right.
