    That's what I was thinking. Right now, all that the factory makes is fire arrows. Not much for an entire factory. If it was an oil factory, then it would be better. And if I'm not mistaken, wouldn't fire arrows be normal arrows with tips dipped in oil? That's why you had to light it with a lantern in early builds.

    I totally agree with you with the fact that KAG is fast paced, that's what makes it fun;) but I was thinking of much simpler (and fast) ways to get boiling water. I've always liked how buckets could be immediately acquired from a workbench and then be instantly filled with water to get my splash on. I was thinking something like this:
    • Craft a bucket
    • Fill it with water
    • get to a heat source (lantern, and you know how easy they are to make)
    • press E to interact with lantern
    • immediately acquire boiling water (no mitts required, no waiting time, simple!)
    That honestly wont take long, and in terms of realism: if people can effortlessly run around with giant boulders and carry boats in crates, then you really don't have to do anything special/technical to get boiling water.
    Remember that boiling water should be a DEFENSE item, men in medieval warfare never charged into battle with buckets, as well, people never had a problem with stock piling water buckets behind their fort walls, and boiling the water takes only ONE extra step.

    Honestly, this isn't a wholly bad idea, as long as boiling water is visually distinguishable. Perhaps transparent smoke sprites coming out of the bucket?

    Also, if this was added, I don't think that regular water should stun anyone at all. Maybe slow down their movement a slight bit, but not do a full stun.

    Stronghold game if anyone played it, you had engineers who could handle siege objects and such and also handle hot buckets of pitch, your peasants would extract pitch from the fields and engineers use this big cauldron to boil it, so my suggestion would be to have small custom workbench like entity which looks like cauldron, you build it and then you place buckets inside the cauldron then the cauldron produces buckets filled with pitch or hot water, whatever floats your boat. Once it's done producing you can pick it up for use. I think it should actually be hot water, so fill up buckets with water and put it in cauldron for it to boil.

    If in the end it all comes down to oil/pitch, then a factory or custom workbench entity (suggested by LostPix) will definitely be in order. But a factory that produces boiling water may receive the same criticism that water ammo has been getting; they have a whole thread dedicated to that now.

    The way I see it, is that a factory producing boiling water buckets may encourage people to spam them, and knowing how easy it is to acquire items from factories in KAG, it may definitely become an issue. Which is why
    I highly favored a method in which to "craft" boiling water buckets to reduce spam. Usually builders are the ones
    that craft items, so its not like any random knight or archer can just grab a bucket from a factory and run with it, therefore abusing the purpose of boiling water buckets.

    If a factory MUST be used, then there should be a longer production time so that at least everyone isn't boiling
    each other to death.

    Let me make sure I understand what your saying here, instead of just making the factory build time longer you think we should pad out the production process by making builder hang around in the base making water buckets. This is not a good solution to the problem, it would be like if you balanced an RTS unit by making giant clowns block your screen whenever you have one out. Games should be balanced so it's fun to play, they shouldn't be made less fun because they aren't balanced.

    I don't think it will be abused, you will need to fill up a bucket with water first, then bring it to the cauldron, put it inside, in return you get hot water bucket and it will have cooldown on production, you will still need access to water of any sort to be able to use it.

    So, pretty much interact with \x\ ingredient at \y\ shop, yes nobody thought of this before.

    I'm still weirded out by using boiling water, but what else are you going to use? Stone buckets, and make the boiling tar be made of creosote oil or wood tar?

    I just didn't want boiling water buckets to be too available, that's all. It doesn't have to be crafted or anything, just as long as the battlefield doesn't turn into a splash frenzy of death.

    I like the concept.
    but instead of water, make it oil.
    and you would have to go mining for the oil.

    and when you strike oil...
    GWWOOOOOOOSH!
    A big oil spout!
    it would propel you upwards!
    if the oil stops spouting, and you land in the pool, it will suck you in like quicksand!
    so you have to mine for oil like this:
    :dirt::blank::blank::blank::blank::blank::blank::dirt:
    :dirt::blank::blank::blank::blank::blank::blank::dirt:
    :dirt::blank::blank::blank::blank::blank::blank::dirt:

    :dirt::dirt::dirt::ladder::blank::dirt::dirt::dirt:
    :dirt::dirt::dirt::ladder::blank::dirt::dirt::dirt:
    :dirt::dirt::dirt::blank::blank::dirt::dirt::dirt:
    :dirt::dirt::dirt::ladder::blank::dirt::dirt::dirt:
    :dirt::dirt::dirt::ladder::blank::dirt::dirt::dirt:
    :dirt::dirt::dirt::ladder::blank::dirt::dirt::dirt:
    :dirt::dirt::dirt::blank::blank::dirt::dirt::dirt:
    :dirt::dirt::dirt::ladder::blank::dirt::dirt::dirt:
    :dirt::dirt::dirt::ladder::blank::dirt::dirt::dirt:
    :dirt::dirt::dirt::ladder::blank::dirt::dirt::dirt:
    :dirt::dirt::dirt::blank::blank::dirt::dirt::dirt:
    the bowl at the top is to collect all the oil if it is a large spout.
    the ladders are so you don't drown :rollseyes:

    You then have to collect the oil in buckets, and put it in a fixed oil bowl, which you could get in and activate with ctrl, or whatever you have as light bomb.
    rain burning oil down on those pesky climbing archers ::P:

    Way, way, way too complicated process for a fast-paced game. Remember nurseries? It's this, but worse.

    Why would you do such a thing? This is just......no. It's already too much of a pain to have to mine stone, chop wood, and sponge out water.

    Just make oil at the deepest layer of the map very close to bedrock, problem solved.

    But do we really need another resource to begin with?

    because why not, that's like 1 day worth of coding I think, maybe few hours. Also why do you think it would be a resource, it will act like water except be dark and you fill up buckets with it.

    But what would happen when water and oil collide? the current liquid flowing system wouldn't work, because the water would put the oil at the top, or just completely destroy the oil.

    He means it's not as simple as "a couple of lines of code" as you so eloquently put it. What would happen when water and oil connect? That's a lot more coding there: Oil would have to go on top of the water. On top, not on the bottom, in the middle, all over the place, duplicating the water or the oil, or both. On top of it. It cannot destroy the water either. It has to go on top. Water currently does not have code for behaviour when it comes to multiple, different liquids. That's a whole new facet that needs to be coded, possibly tens or hundreds of lines of new code that needs to be tested, fixed and most likely introduces a plethora of new bugs.

    Not to mention, what would the oil do. Setting it on fire (logical assumption) would require a new facet of code, you cannot set water on fire, how would fire interact with oil so it doesn't make the server lag and at the same time, make it even remotely believable?

    What about the pengiuns I would have to call the epa on the devs if they did.

    On topic:
    The water level would spread down eating up the water. Then a same exact pool of oil would replace the water.

    Uh, the whole latter half of this whole page can be summed up with one word: wat

    This feature doesn't need to be long and complicated, lest being able to spawn oil source blocks.
