Annoying build 977 Death Cam - and suggestions

    Hi everyone, as you have noticed with the build 977 the death cam (the camera movement/focus etc. after you die on the game) has changed. I have opened this thread to talk about the things we don't like about the current cam and also make suggestions on how to improve it.

    The death cam is considerably annoying at the moment, because now I sometimes even don't understand how or whether I have actually died :D The camera just refocuses to somewhere else the exact moment you die, it is really strange.

    Other than that, another thing which bothers me is that I can still not see the names of the opposing team's players when I hover my mouse over them during the death cam. I really would like to see who killed me and also to have a general idea of who is doing what at the moment.

    I think a one second delay would be good. You take in the fact that you died, and then it jumps to the person that killed you

    Either that or make it pan over to your killer in a suitable speed.

    I think the whole "telling who's doing what" is a bit of a problem in general. On my servers, I've resorted to just giving everyone the ability to see player names on mouse hover. People gripe about the problems with that in theory on the forums, but I have noticed virtually no downside, as none of the theoretical problems with it have shown to happen with enough regularity for anyone to notice or care.

    Regarding the idea of the camera panning; that does sound like a good idea. I'm envisioning something like this:
    At the moment of your death, the game echoes to your screen (killed by <guy that killed you>) in large print.
    After a brief delay, long enough to size up what happened, the camera pans from your corpse to your killer. This transition takes a set amount of time, so the speed that the camera moves varies based on the killer's distance from the corpse.

    I don't believe there is any camera panning functionality built into in to leverage, so a really fancy modder may be needed.

    Anyone have any thoughts on this idea (which is mostly a roll up of the above ideas)?

    I think the waiting a second might be enough, but the panning is helpful if you haven't gotten a view of the enemy far away or any of their land/buildings and were killed by ballista or archer or something.

    It would be nice if instead of a kill cam some sort of symbol appeared over their head and the camera didnt follow or anything.

    Ah, this explains a lot. I kept noticing that it didn't work on many servers but then it did on others, I thought it was enabled by default but now I see that it's in the server options.
