Belt Wars: Zero-G Antics w/ Spaceships, Afterburners and Laser Guns

    Belt Wars is a total conversion taking kag from a medieval fantasy setting to a near future asteroid belt.​

    Features:

    Revamped control system featuring zero-g combat
    Characters in Belt Wars use thrusters to move around in outer space. Adjust your velocity with WASD to counter and crush the enemy, but make sure you don't run out of fuel! Belt Wars also features a full space based newtonian physics system, allowing you to toss objects to dynamically effect your velocity.

    Sprite Conversions
    Many tiles/items have been converted to new space based pngs, and more are on the way. Sprites are being designed to look fresh and new while still keeping that classic Geti style.

    This one speaks for itself. Currently one spaceship, the Wasp is implemented, with several more planned on the way.

    Gravity Systems
    Belt Wars was designed from the ground up to accommodate changing gravity conditions. The next large update will be bringing in placeable gravity generators, as well as dangerous black hole hazards.

    Want to see what the generators are like now? The saw's gravity field is already implemented and will exert a pulling force on any logs or members of the opposing team above it.

    Interested in developing your own maps for Belt Wars? Currently it uses the same palette as a traditional CTF map, so if you've created one of those you're already good to go.

    Randomly chosen backgrounds
    Tired of seeing the same old plains and mountains in the background? Belt Wars will randomly select a background for you every time you join. Fight in the outer reaches of the Solar System by Pluto and Charon or take a jaunt sunward to see the transit of Mercury over the Sun.

    Yes! Just search Belt Wars in the server browser.

    How often is this updated?
    I've been updating Belt Wars daily/bi-daily and this pattern will continue for at least the next week and a half before I start work.

    Is this a roleplaying server?
    No, this is a CTF server. Roleplaying is allowed, but don't cry if someone kills you!

    But I just want to build! Can't I just kick people who don't want to peace along?
    Sure, but that's a great way to earn yourself a server ban

    I've played it many times already, and it's really fun in action.

    Would like it in touching the ground also increased friction, so setting up a flag defense didn't leave me doing a back-and-forth shimmy. Also, would like it if build time was 120 seconds to 180 seconds instead of the current 60. Literally can't do much of anything in such a short time.

    Actually touching surfaces does give you friction, you just have to press against the surface to get it to work. Flag defense should be easier next update as the the poles will put out full gravity for a couple tiles.

    Build time got upped to 90 secs in update .61, might up it to 120 if i get more comments about it

    The main issue with such a short build time is that as a knight, there's already zero challenge getting into the enemy's base. Just charge up to any dirt tile and you'll be dug through relatively quickly. There are so many access points that it's completely unchallenging to get into an enemy base, even when they wall off the main entrance with stone. And don't even get me started on getting to the flag as a builder, easy peasy.

    Meanwhile, if you increased build time significantly, people could at least put stone blocks around the inside of their base so knights would need builders to get through, capish?
     
  8. Yeah please increase the build time. Would be a lot more fun if you actually had time to set up defenses, hangars, etc.

    The 0.75 update has officially been released and is currently up on the Belt Wars server!

    Black holes, map gravity generators, new sprites and more are all featured in this update.

    Would anyone be interested in a TDM conversion as well? I think I could throw together a version pretty quickly.

    Converting the format to TDM wasn't too hard, I've got a basic server up and running...it needs more maps though, the regular tdm maps don't cut it too well.

    I hate the black holes, make less of them. Maybe two in the center of the map? There were two in my base and one just outside it, and same for the enemy side. They have gravity effects so literally anywhere you sit inside your base, you're being pulled towards the closest one.
