Nethack

Nethack is one of the three founding rogue-likes and is probably the most played.
Choosing between a variety of classes and several races, you must enter the Dungeons of Doom in search of The Amulet Of Yendor.

Before the wiki was made, many people took over a decade to complete it having only 'spoilers', other players had posted to help them.
Many things can happen in your travels and almost anything is possible. If you like Dwarf Fortress, this may interest you greatly. Items found may be cursed, or have various other enchantments. Every playthrough, various potions, scrolls and rings take on a different look. Fizzy potions may once have been health-ups, but now may be a toxic brew.
Supposedly still in development, (last official update was in 2003) many forks and expansions have been made to continue production. In the same way Rogue inspired Hack which evolved into Nethack, many other games have been inspired by it.

My best attempt yet, (which is still ongoing), in which I am using a Gnomish Wizard (fav class) has been incredibly successful. I have finally obtained Magicbane, my first artifact, and have also polymorphed into a master mind flayer. I'm only in the Gnomish Mines, so I am annihilating anything that crosses my path. Most likely, it will end in YASD, but I live in hope.

 

Roguelikes in general. Im not much of a nethack player (i have played it, in comparison to the newer more polished roguelikes i didnt like it as much), but i do enjoy me some brogue, cataclysm dda, a violent road to death, infra arcanum, DCSS, TOME, incursion.
Been trying to get into adom 2 so i have been watching youtube videos in order to familiarize myself.

I can talk roguelikes and strategy/classes/builds all day.

 

Wow. I didn't think I would find anyone who played this game before.
