Since the last tournament is now officially dead due to inactivity I am trying to pool some interest in a thread around the summer time, so a few things I would like some ideas on organization of such a tournament, the general things I would like to know are:
    Teams of 6 or 3?
    Time limit?

I suck at times around the globe, I assume not everyone has 'summer break' during May-June-July-August time, what would be a good time for example people in Australia, or South America, or South Africa (if we have any :P), Europe, etc?

Looking for more longtime, attempting to plan a lot of it ahead and get it done very fast when it does come up, feel free to post any ideas, this is just an idea and interest gathering thread

I think this is a good idea. I reckon the main reason the last tournament died was because it was a very bad time to do it. I myself am in uni doing work and stuff and everyone else is probably busy too.

Europeans have a long summer holiday I believe.

Teams of 3 are better with 2 subs, because otherwise trying to get everyone into a match at the same time is a little difficult. The subs should be mandatory for each teams sake.

I'd be interested in doing it. I've yet to participate in a tournament...but I don't know if I could find 5 other people to team up with. So I'd prefer teams of 3. I'd offer more insight, but I'm not sure how tourneys here work.

Sounds good and just for your interests, in Australia the summer holidays has finished -_- but it sounds like a good idea and I haven't been in a tournament and what would happen if you got disconnected o_O

    Thanks GHOZT

  5. Rather than random teams, i would like to see a Clan vs Clan Tournament, which can be used to determine what clan is #1 in KAG.

Also, please don't say that your clan is #1 after this post, as it will just fill the thread with spam and will derail the topic

I am not sure at wich months i have my summer holiday ( Seriously, i always forget this. ) But i believe it is in the months you said, Blueluigi. I would be interested in a tournament, but i would prefer having 3 seperate tournaments. 1 For europe, 1 for the USA + Canada and 1 for Australia. As Neat said, i think having 2 subs aside of 3 main team members would work better as not having subs.

A pretty much huge +1 on all that's been said, although a clan tournament is rather... bad due to the amount of (Rubbish) clans on KAG as of late.

Yea, a clan tourney would be an entirely different thing IMO, doing it by geographical location would probably be a good idea overall due to lag management and such being very important, how do people feel about amount of teams to participate?
If we were to do for example 1 North America, 1 Euro, 1 Aussie, would anyone rise to handle Euro and Aussie tourneys?

Any thoughts on structure? I was thinking if we say whether we had 16 or 32 teams, we could use Swiss or a similar system to get down to 8, then single elim, alternatively just single or double elim the whole way, there seem to be many pros and cons of each but most important I think is to not take so long from start to finish of the tourney as to avoid people simply dropping out from the time. If it was possible to get the people around and it was 16 teams it could probably be done in a weekend, but schedules would probably need to be pre-approved make sure everyone is ready for it.

If we called out a weekend in a few months I wonder how many could put it aside, Id hate to see personal stuff keep someone out but I think the 2 backups might solve that as having 3/5 show up isn't so hard.

I think it might be worth having separate tournaments based on location, to prevent lag getting involved. Although that's kind of optional.

Under the assumption that this tournament is done by region (which I think would be best because it makes getting times available easier) we could get 2-3 rounds done per week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) since most people tend to play within the same time in their region.

A 32 team, single elimination would take 5 rounds to do. (16 teams = 4 rounds)
A 32 team, double elimination would take 10 rounds to do. (16 teams = 8 rounds)

If it is done by region, it would probably be better to do a swiss system because I doubt each region is going to have more than 16 teams. If we do get more than 16 teams per region, then I'd say that we should do a single/double elimination style to cut down on time.

But find now 32 teams to play. There was hardly 16 teams signed in the last moment and I think that's enough.

This would preferably be about 3-5 months away instead of now, so we have quite some time to pool interest and I'm sure with zombies out numbers of KAG players will rise.

I would love to see a huge-ass balls to the wall epic full clan tournament, but I think that as a community we need to gain some experience doing organized play before we undertake crazy ventures that are doomed to fail by our inexperience. Grind some XP doing small things and we'll work our way up.

What I think would be more practical and still fun is a short term regional 1v1 league. No planned dates or anything like that, but people challenging each other over irc (with some minor restrictions) and at the end of a month or so the stats are computed and the person with the highest ELO wins.

Or we could still do a tournament but I think something more like a 1v1 or 2v2 arena type of game. Something easier to handle.

  15. I assume that every play had to play given number of matches? In this case, cool. If everybody played what he wanted and guys with 1 won match and 1 played would have the highest ELO it's totally uncool.

The only issue I see with doing a 1v1 is that some people might become too arrogant if they beat certain people or it may cause disputes.

By disputes, I mean that some people might say that they were off their game or something. There are just some type of people that will continuously challenge others even after they keep losing. (Not really a huge deal, but it's annoying)

I will say that 1v1 would probably be the fastest way to do it and it's easier to set up, but I feel that as compiling who wins, it complicates it a lot more.

Let's get together everyone involved, randomly set them up on the chart, make a forum post about the tourney, and update it as people move up in the rankings.

Have everyone who wants to participate post here along with the best time of the day they can do it, then put them up against someone else with a similar time to take part. I'd be cool with it being 1v1 with no respawn. Might make things stupid intense.

I am trained in the ancient art of MS Paint and would happily use my off the chart skills to erase and write names on a tournament bracket.

    I don't know what I'm talking about.

-I agree that regional 1v1 tournaments should come first. Have 20 duels with a person on RDM, winner takes on the next in line; quick, simple, effective.
-Australia doesn't really have the numbers to support a regional team tournament.
-If/When I acquire a Japanese server, it could be used to provide fairly equal pings to everyone from EU/NA/Aus
