Can adfly links and such be against the rules especially or at least when posting something you didn't personally make?

    Thanks :v

I'm against adf.ly even when it links to "original content" (whatever that means..), but Shad and the powers that be are indifferent. If you are talking about a specific user with an adf.ly linking to his youtube account in his sig, he removed it ;)

More or less just noticed that a few people will take advantage of it when posting things like maps or other stuff. I have no problem with the actual ad concept, but I'm iffy about those websites and would rather not take the chance catching something cause someone linked something that I might need or want. Indifference is cool, I'll let this die until the day when this becomes more of a problem.

Just to state my opinion --

    http://kagforum.com/index.php?threa...ach-images-files-do-not-use-3rd-parties.3680/

As mentioned there, I strongly urge everyone to use the forum attachment system so that maps and other community/custom content aren't ever lost. So many file hosting sites disappear every year and the community loses valuable content forever. I can't even start to tell you how many people I've had PM me or track me down on the Soldat Forums/elsewhere looking for mods and maps from a few years ago. If people had used the forum's attachment system they would still be around.

As such, this removes the ability for people to add ads to their downloads and makes it easier/cleaner for the community to access them. Also - those kinds of ads are probably huge targets for people looking to spread viruses/etc. Especially since the user is already expecting to be given a file to download, it is way too easy for a malicious ad/site/image to end up infecting the user with something. The forum upload system is safer, and backed up heavily.
