Wading through the murky waters of ad-infested applications. I'll be your guide. For starters, most of the following applications have sane permissions (no location snooping / irrelevant, possibly spammy network connections etc):

My Installed Android Apps (in alphabetical order)
    • Battery Circle (vnull) - shows a nice battery percentage icon on your status bar, open-source. Virtually no battery drain.

    • Bubble (v1.9.2) - impress your handymen friends with a digital spirit level

    • Chroma Doze (v1.1.1) - white noise generator (not sample-based) for those sleepless nights. Open-source

    • Coloured Paper (v2) - the only live wallpaper you'll ever need. Resonates the colours of the rainbow based on your phone's angle/accelerometer

    • Counter (v2.1) - keeps a tally of (cigarettes smoked, in my case). Open-source

    • CPU Spy (v0.4.0) - Check how your CPU governor performs, report on various states. Open-source

    • Doors (v1.11) - Hellish puzzle game, just turn sounds off , really annoying and loud bleeps

    • Egg Timer (v1.4.2) - Stock AOSP Android lacks a countdown timer, this one's simple and does the job

    • Frozen Bubble (v1.12)

    • Gmote (v2.0.7) - use your phone as a remote control for your PC (Windows/Linux)

    • imo beta (v2.5.0) - multi-IM chat

    • Irssi ConnectBot (v1.7.1-irssi) - ssh client and terminal application with irssi-specific bindings. Indispensable

    • myDialer (v2.3.1) - best t9 dialer on the market, take it from me

    • Push Ups (v2.0.2) - uh huh, OCD

    • Puzzles (v9306.11) - Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzles for Android

    • Set as Wallpaper (v1.01) - Pixel-perfect wallpapers (android does a really bad resize when left to its own devices)

    • Status Notes (v0.91) - Add short notes on your status bar , open-source

    • SuperSU (v0.87) - if you have a rooted phone

    • SwitchPro Widget (v1.9.5) - power control widget with various options. The only paid app on this list

    • TaskManager (v1.1.1) - self-explanatory

    • Torch (v0.2) - Use your camera's LED flash as a torch. Open Source

    • twicca (v0.9.31a) - best twitter client on any handheld platform

    • Vector Pinball (v1.3.1) - self-explanatory. Open Source. Enjoyable soundtrack

    • Yaaic (v0.9)- Yet Another Android IRC Client. Open Source

Ur-Quan Masters, Angband, Armada Arcade are good games to keep boredom at bay.

HiSurfing for cockblocking all data communication. They told me you require a data plan to use this phone. Sure showed them (Requires root)
'Sound Manager' is useful if you go to school or somesuch and don't want to worry about muting/unmuting the phone all the time.

I used pdanet for 2 weeks when I had no internet at home, got 2 letters from my provider telling me I used too much data. Stupid 'fair use' policies. :bird:
But yea, 10gb in 2 weeks is quite a bit for a phone connection...
