Things you may not know about Archer:

    • Your builders are not always going to cater to you. If you know you need an archer's nest built, (i.e. some ladders to give you elevation and shooting advantage) switch to builder and build one. It only takes a few moments and is going to increase your effectiveness a ton. --Auri
    • Zoom out. You can shoot a lot farther than the screen will allow even when zoomed out. This also allows you to shoot enemies from a much safer distance. It additionally allows you to easily judge distances and visualisation where the arrow will land [increasing accuracy of first and subsequent shots--Auri, cykalu
    • Your first priority is not knights. I know they can stab you to death, but the enemy archer killing your own knights or the builder coming to build bridges over your wall are far more dangerous enemies in the long run. --Auri
    • Just die already. Yes, your KDR will suffer, but under some circumstances it's faster to suicide than to gather 12 more arrows. --Auri
    • Tunnels are not your friends. If you're going to go fight below ground-level make sure to stock up and stick to areas that allow for long, straight shots. Making a one block deep dip and standing in that dip, gives you a few extra blocks while lobbing. --Auri, cykalu
    • In the middle of combat when there are no builders, don't scream for ladders and don't dig them. Use arrows to climb. It is much faster and safer. --HA1TER
    • When you are out of arrows and if there is an enemy archer, tease him to shoot so you can pick his arrows up! --HA1TER
    • You can catch arrows in mid air! Slower arrows are easy to catch, fast ones require lots of practice (spam right mouse to do this). --HA1TER, AJ
    • You don't have to be aiming at the enemy all the time. The arrow will still go to that enemy if you move your cursor back to him. This means you can fake people out. If there's at least 2 targets to choose from, and that knight is being stubborn and constantly shielding all your arrows, or the archer is good at dodging start aiming at the other target, but don't fire. The enemy should see this and come out of cover/unshield, allowing you to quickly put your sights on him again and fire. --Neat
    • Try to get on high ground. Try not to sit on ladders though. --Monsteri
    • If you're 1vs1 against a knight, keep hopping over him and shooting him in the back. --Monsteri
    • You don't always need to do full charge. Majority of knights will continuously try to stab you when they're near, leading them vulnerable to fast attacks. --Monsteri
    • You can snipe people off ladders by firing at them fully charged, which leads to their death if the ladders are high up. --Monsteri
    • When you are anticipating an assault on your current location fire one or two arrows to judge the distance and the angle that you need to position your mouse. These marker arrows will help make your shots count when you need them to. --Fellere825
    • You should not fully destroy a tree to get arrows. Trees have multiple stages of destruction. Destroy it so that it only takes one hit from a builder to gather wood. Credit to Neat's video archer guide for this info. --Fellere825
    • Hide under bushes or corpses which will completely cover you. Only fresh corpses can hide you. --Fellere825
    • Dig trenches when you are in open flat ground for quick cover. The battle will slowly turn into trench warfare between archers. If a knight is charging you bugger out of there and retreat. --Fellere825
    • Saving a minimum of five arrows will almost always ensure that you have a way to retreat. Some people seem to forget that you don't have to fully charge your arrows to build your path back. Well.. You don't. --Fellere825
    • Shoot arrows at a wall so their angle is perpendicular to the wall, and you are able to climb them. When shooting, keep your cursor near your player. This will allow for less movement when an angle adjustment needs to be made. --dwatring
    • 3-4 archers that fire max power arrows can shoot down knight army. --Worm
    • When you're going close combat with a knight, make sure they have atleast 1,5 hearts or less left. Then when he is about to hit you you can shoot him and hopefully kill him. With a bit of skill, you might even be able to dodge the stab. --crodude
    • You can destroy catapults and outposts with your arrows. It takes a while, but is definitely worth the effort to snipe exposed constructions. --Contrary
    • Lying down prevents you from colliding with enemies, letting you dodge knights falling on your head. Be warned it does nothing to protect you from the subsequent sword slashes though. --Contrary
    • (General) Standing on top of a knight and jumping up and down does no stun, but if you jump from the top of his head and hit the edge of his hitbox, you hit a bit lower doing full stun. --Contrary
    • (General) You can pick up and hold extra hearts with E to give yourself a quick heal when you get hit. --Contrary
    • You can climb arrows even if the surface they stick in is a horizontal wall, or even if they disappear! --Contrary
    • Hiding in grass just to shoot people in the back isn't worth it, but hiding in grass to give yourself a chance to cap the enemy flag definitely is. --Contrary
    • (General) You can change classes at enemy outposts. Try using your arrow ladders and stealth to get into an enemy outpost, then change to knight so you're hard to take out! --Contrary
    • When retreating realize that charging your arrows slows you down, so decide whether you want to kill the advancing enemy or book it to safety. Because when you start charging the enemy will catch up most of the time. --Fellere825
    • Work closely with Knights. Your shots pass through friendlies, and with coordination, a Knight's shield can make a ton of difference when countering enemy archers.
Your charged shot stuns enemy Knights who are blocking, allowing your team mates the opportunity to slash-up the opposing Knight, often negating their ability to block small passages. This can also hold true for a squad of archers, firing in a staggered manner can cause havoc on even swarms of enemy Knights, especially in tight spaces. --Pezzhippo
    • Practice volleying shots (arcing them over obstacles). If you've picked up a ton of arrows during the fight, volleys can make for an ideal suppression tactic, or a means to eliminate a few pesky builders who're hiding behind a wall manning catapults etc. Be warned, however, over-use of volleying can quickly drain your ammunition, while simultaneously giving the enemy your arrows should they fail to hit anyone, so use it sparingly, and only when you have the ammo to then advance forward to achieve more direct firing lines. --Pezzhippo
    • Always scan ahead before moving out of cover, else you may end up the victim of an enemy archer who happened to have selected you as a potential threat and is waiting for you to poke your head up. --Pezzhippo

Things you may not know about Archer - part 2:

    • Want to accumulate lots of arrows without the labor of holding down your mouse button? Hold down right click button to start chopping wood, press ESC, release the right click, read a book, chat in-game, and then press ESC to resume. You now have 250 arrows! --lehoon
    • (General) Find something suspicious? hover your mouse over it, it could be an enemy archer laying amongst some bodies, in the grass, or in the shadows. Numerous times I've surprised/avoided enemies with my stealth tactics because they just dont double check if they really killed me or not. --kalidor
    • If you hit the tree trunk block above the base two times, then destroy the base, the almost-broken part of trunk will revert to state of undamaged. Use this method to gain 5 arrows per one trunk, given you have at least one block of tree trunk above the base. --Kurohagane
    • If your shot is fully charged and if you are in a good position you can hit opponents through edges --LINUS
    • If you're like me, and start out as an archer, because you only get in the way of building, be polite to the builders and don't make arrows yet. The builders have to have wood immediately, whereas archers can afford to wait until the building period is almost up. --cowabunga410
    • If 1v1 a knight, it's helpful if you're in a area full of trees that are close together! Hop from tree to tree while firing at him can serve as a distraction for some friendly knights to sneak up and kill the enemy knight or as a distraction for friendly archers to kill him. Might be able to kill him that way too. --maxdrive
    • If you're fleeing from a foe and you've got a little distance on them, don't hesitate to shoot an arrow or two into their face. It'll most likely slow them, and possibly kill them if they weren't paying attention. --Nighthawk
    • Not all Knights are stupid. They won't hesitate to throw bombs at an archer if they have them. If you see an enemy Knight even light a bomb, it's recommended that you get the heck out of there right away. --Nighthawk
    • Right-click to cancel charge after it passes the yellow peak for more frequent and consistent accuracy/stun-shots. --Cykalu
Long description: Instead of waiting for opportunities to shoot and 'over-charging', the point after it reaches the yellow peak and starts to 'decharge', right click your mouse to cancel your current charge and begin recharging at the beginning, rather than wasting time decharging and recharging to the peak, which often contributes to overestimating the arrow's trajectory.
    • Always be on the move in close combat. --Cykalu
    • While running backwards from knights in melee range, depending how close you are to them, the use of sudden prones can catch knights off, allowing you to run the other way, as they almost always assume you're just going to be running backwards the whole way. --Cykalu
    • Sometimes, it is better to charge for your stun shots while in close combat, rather than spamming 1/2 damage arrows, especially when they're full health. A decision you have to make and practice in making.Attempt to engage enemies as soon as you see them [fully zoomed out], to slow their advances, buying time for your allies to reach them. Also a method for practising long range shots. --Cykalu
    • There are only 3 states of "draw" which are brown, red, and yellow. The trajectory of your arrow does not depend on the number of dots, just on their color, but more precisely it depends on which discrete (i.e. there are thresholds) duration you've spent drawing the bow. The brown arrow does one heart of damage and has the worst trajectory. The red arrow does 1.5 hearts and has much better trajectory. The yellow arrow has diminishing returns on trajectory (it's not worth it unless you're shooting far or against someone who might dodge), does 1.5 heart of damage still, and has the popular shield clashing and stunning effect. I haven't examined velocity but I think it's similar to the case with trajectory. --nerdpride
    • You can tell how long you've drawn your bow by its creaking noises, which indicate your draw state. 3 "creaks" and you should be yellow. --nerdpride
