    Simply put, this would be a source of entertainment and creativity for the forum-goers like myself.

    An example of a forum game:

    Member I: I kill the air because there's no post above my post
    Member II: I kill you for killing the air.
    Shadlington: I killed you with a tophat for posting this in the wrong forum.
    Member IIII: I kill you for giving the OP an infraction.

    Easier to just make offtopic a no rules, no postcount/no likes area where anything can happen short of posting porn, advertisements, gore, straight up flameroasting someone, or talking about things that are illegal (I'm not talking about things that are illegal for no reason like marijuana, but more like how to kill someone, or how to procure copious amounts of heroin).

    Well, yes, I must admit that does sound easier, but every other forum I've ever visited has had a Forum Games subforum.

    Usually because forum games get out of hand yea, for example trelawney locking the 'word association' one.

    In most cases these word games are the very definition of spam, they are not meant to convey any meaning but to senselessly type things with some excuse that it's a game to garner post count or some other shit. Most of the forums I visit that have forum games subforums tend to see the absolute worst members in those subforums as opposed to ones with just offtopics where no one cares you see a few and those people get ignored the game dies other than the 1-2 people who actually think that stuff is cool and all is good in the world.
