    Hi

I may be a big noob, but I can't fight an archer with a knight without getting pwned 80% of the time. They can run back (wtf ?) and shot at the same time (double wtf ?) at ultra-long range with the same precision as if they stood still (gosh...). We run at about the same speed I guess, but I have to shield or I get killed. So usually they can run away (they can jump on wall ! :(), or they kill me because I have to jump over hills and holes so I can't be always shielded.

Do you guys have the same impression ? And do you have some techniques to fight these annoying archers ?

If you're pushing an archer back, that's good enough really. I can get a kill on an archer when they're alone most of the time. I guess I just have the shield jumping thing down by now. Takes practice to be able to block every shot, but once you do, they can't do a thing. Wait until the archer is right in a corner before even attempting a stab, otherwise it won't go well. Only try one stab, and only stab again if you actually hit the archer (watch his hearts)

A good knight is just an ironclad clump which pushes me back all the time. The only way I can damage him at all is by taking some risky manuevers. And the precision depends on the players skill, it's not like it's easy to hit a moving target while falling back. It is way harder than shielding properly, believe me + the archer moves very slowly while charging a shot.

Knights are used to take ground so you are doing your job by forcing archers backwards. Yes it is a bitch when they hop up a wall and your just at the bottom sobbing and sucking your thumb.

I am somewhat reluctant to admit this, but it seems to work well the way it is now. An archer can't kill you if you stay completely defensive, but you have to drop your guard to have a chance to catch him.

I'm not so sure when there are more players involved. Five or more archers doing the "peek, shoot, hide" can be a bit too much.

Always try to gain the high ground. If you are on the low ground regain the high ground. In order to move you will have to move right after they fire a missed shot (if you keep on getting stunned you will have to be patient... you won't die from just one archer stunning you over and over). After they fire a missed shot, try to get onto the high ground or reduce the distance between you and them. Time your movements to the archer's attacks. Know that a good archer will hold down the reticle and wait between charges like a sniper waits between heartbeats. Also know that the archer is most vulnerable when it has a bow charging (it slows the archer down). The best time to kill a skilled archer is when they are at full on retreat or if they have their bow charging.

If they have the high ground always keep your shield up. (In this situation you are usually assaulting strongholds.) Find as much natural cover as possible; this will provide a better chance for you to advance. If there is an underground path, take it. Crashing against a wall over and over will prove to be unsuccessful most of the time. Time your movements with the volleys of the archers perched atop the wall. They will have a certain rhythm as most of the time the archers will attempt to fully charge their shots (fully charged shots are the easiest to aim and calculate trajectory in one's head). The knights goal is to act as a bulldozer (to push forward and gain ground). You don't have to kill an archer if it does not pose an immediate threat to you or your comrades.

Thats if anti lag things from the last update don't just kill you with arrows that must of been shot several years ago...

Argh, I hate the anti-lag thing. It's okay to have it in the game, but please, how can I die when a knight stabs me from metres away?

The untagged thing wasn't as great as I'd hoped for, either.

Yeah, I absolutely hate unlagged. It's a one-way solution to a two-way problem. Now instead of your attacks missing by the time between you and the server/other player, their attacks hit when they appear to miss by the same amount. Also timing an arrow block is impossible! On your screen it shows you successfully block, but the server goes back in time and decides that you died. WTF?! This is a BIG BIG problem in my opinion. It makes the game nearly unplayable. Sword combat is a lot less interesting because of it, too. The opposing knights bounce all over the screen, disagreeing with your machine about where the knock-back and lunge-slash puts him. And suddenly you're dead, even though he hasn't been within 3 or 4 blocks of you. I used to think that for sword combat it was working well, because you can actually aim at your opponent, but since the server never seems to settle on where the opposing knight actually is, aiming doesn't even work. It's just a wild gamble. Back up and double-lunge slash forward and cross your fingers that the server likes your timing better than his.

Yeah nothing is more frustrating than hitting an archer 2 times, and the server deciding that you missed. FFUUUU DIIEEE ARCCHHERRRR ! (it works with knights too, but archers jumping around like flies are awful :p)

Hopefully MM will fix all that soon :)
