Does anyone think that the ballista sort of ruins the map to quick? I played a couple of matches today and the result at the end was a giant crater in the middle of the map. I find that it happens all to quick, then the majority of the game is spent fighting in unnatural terrain and having to face a huge cliff to get to the enemy's base. Do people like this?

    Don't play TTH, problem solved!
I don't mind the ballista destruction.

  3. I enjoy that kind of thing - no man's land in real warfare was a thing - churned up mud and things like that making it difficult to attack and defend - KAG represents that with the holes, I guess.

The way you make this sound is like Gallipoli. Yes bomb bolts may do damage to the terrain, but fighting in "No Mans Land" is like pushing through total hell to get to the enemies base.
It may drag the game out for a while (Longest match ive played with this situation was 6 hours) but you have some serious fun and rank up quite alot of kills aswell.
Plus the whole idea of attacking in groups to get the upper hand is great, the more blood the better.

This is even worse in CTF, though.. As there is no cap or build time for ballistae, as long as you have a buttload of coins, the spam goes on.

I can't stand bomb ballistae in their current state, too much damage to natural blocks, too easy to spam.

How do you even play release? Your nickname is blue, which means you're not premium.

Blue has something do with Steam, and only the released version is on steam so...
Edit: Now that said, I'm not actually sure what it has to do with steam, and if I knew how to get it I would (nice color is nice); but yeah, blue is a subset of yellow.
Edit 2: (Back on topic!) How I feel about the world becoming Switzerlandian cheesse to the demonic shrines that are the ballistae is larger map dependent, though I'm usually fine with it. I also enjoy 'normal' looking terrain, so I don't have strong feelings one way or the other on this issue.
Edit the third: Wait, did the non-premium color change while I was gone? Man I feel out of the loop.

It's frustrating when it happens, but used correctly (especially off the top of a tall tower correctly spaced from the enemy's tower/castle) they tend to end the game pretty decisively.

    {edit}
And yes, fwiw, Trumbles is premium. If you'd like your name fixed, Trumbles, PM me.

Ballistas are normally not bought till late game ;-;.

AUSS vs POWER first match; Without the smart ballista play, this match would of lasted a lot longer. This is a example of ballistas being used correctly!

The point is, if one knight has a good run on the first push, or one builder decides to minecraft around for a little bit, it's easy to rack up that 150 coins, and have a bomb ballista out only minutes after the match starts.

This is why CTF needs some sort of tech system, honestly. While bomb ballistae are considered to be an "endgame" weapon, they aren't inaccessible enough to not be used super early.

I don't mean to say that bomb bolts should be removed, but they should definitely be their own ammo type, that requires more coins, and a certain amount of mats.

This is do-able, it's just that the devs have said they don't want to do that much work for one siege vehicle..

Personally I'd be interested in seeing more of Ej's system of researchable tech as demonstrated in his ARENA: Fundraiser Invitational competition.

This reminds me alot of how catas used to work back in alpha, getting gold for a seige shop on most maps took alot of digging and usually if a team even did get a cata it was late game and the oposite team had a rush to try and get their own catas.

Ballista spam does not make churned up mud in the form of holes, it just strips the landscape down to bedrock (which in some maps is a little annoying). However, I like ballistas the way they are, boooo change!
