Hello. I am not sure if this should go into off-topic or General. But here goes! :)

I am not sure how I should treat others etc. when playing KAG. I mean, sometimes it seems like you really should be professional and not say anything unless you have to, but often I find people randomly putting the F word into chat because they died and people SPEAKIN' IN ALL CAPS LIKE THIS for fun. So in your opinion what do you think is acceptable and not?

Because I got mixed vibes, when I started I was pretty calm and stuff and that was fine but a lot of others were kind of half-crazy. I just find it confusing... :<

It's all fun and games until a guard tells you to shut up. I miss being a guard.

Chat is chat. People are going to spam caps. People are going to toss around the F-bomb for the heck of it. People are going to make racist/sexist remarks.
It's going to happen. But once you get used to it, it's actually rather amusing to see people rage and stuff. It's all the more satisfying when you are the catalyst of their rage...

    ...

Yeah. I teabag bodies sometimes. Don't judge me.

The general consensus, I believe, is to say whatever you want, so long as you aren't being obnoxious and offensive; and even there, you have room left yet to go over the line. It boils down to awareness of other players, and awareness of how the things you're about to say will affect them. Harassment is going to lead to consequence, though; that much, I've demonstrated to you.

I never saw anyone getting offended with some teabag. They just curse you and make promisses of teabaging you for revenge.

Kyzak said pretty much everything, as long as you're not being offensive you don't have to worry too much about what you have to say.

PS: I like the people who scream when I kill them. It makes me feel better.

I'll often run around and put up lyrics to whatever I happen to be listening to at the moment. Often you'll see me say, "Bring the motherfucking ruckus!" just because it's a lyric. At the same time, I'm an adult, and I can say what I want. HOWEVER, if someone should mention that I'm making them uncomfortable or something, I'll stop.

I will also cuss out some noob builder who fucks up everyone's tower designs they worked so hard on.

I just focus on the game at hand and ignore the chat most of the time. Quick glances, sure, but I hope none of it concerns me.

And i'm usually quiet on the chat in huge multiplayer games as I never have anything useful to say, except when I get stuck in a hole and need builder assistance. :(

When zombies come though and teamwork is key, you can bet i'll be talking though. :P

My latest gem, after annoying enemy archers by protecting my own allied ones, and generally bullying the other team:

    Random player: "F*** YOU VINKEN!"
Random player has left the game.

*Note: Profanity edited out. Spelling error left in for effect.

Anything goes most days, I've never seen anyone kicked or reprimanded for offensive language, swazi's, etc. There are rules and standards in place but there are not enough Guards to police the game. Just follow the golden rule and you will make friendly teammates.

More guards would be good, but I'd rather they were selective about it, and have a shortage of good guards then enough guards but some don't have the required diplomacy to do the job properly.

Just one thing that needs highlighting I think though, I think caps is personally perfectly acceptable in this game if you ask me, sometimes you just needed it to make a point and draw attention to it, if you have guys tunneling in to your base and no-one paying attention to the map (amazing how little people do) you really need to shout your arse off and repeat yourself and spam !!! as much as you can to get the point across sometimes. I'd rather not have to but it needs doing sometimes, in general chat it's annoying though.

At the moment we are quite selective about it, though I can't talk about how we actually choose guards. Just bear in mind though that if any of our guards have offended people, they're only human. Also when we recruit new guards we don't have access to all their intentions or true behaviour, so it's only natural we might miss something.

I believe the general consensus of speech in-game is, in succinct terms, "My rights end where yours begin". I'm going to say what I say and do what I do, but if it genuinely offends you? I'll do what I can to reach compromise. I'm just here to ALLAHU ACKBAR and snipe people, not genuinely hurt someone.

That said... This is the internet. If you don't have thick skin in dealing with autonomous entities who are (arguably) rational and conscious humans covered in delicious nougat/anonymity by now then you really need sit down and rethink what you're doing on here. People are terrible, wonderful constructs. Being able to put a mask over it simply amplifies those effects.

I believe this video, when you take it in the broader context of the internet, frames it nicely.

Now we just need a sample of people to point out that need to harden the fuck up, and short excerpts of how they can do so.

I avoid talking to anyone because people just look o try to get a rise out of anyone just for the sake of making themselves feel better. If the people are all making jokes and such I might get into it though, depends what jokes and if they are actually joking, example not all racist jokes are bad to me until they stress that they truly hate the race then it's just awkward. I just say make fun of everything cause if you pick stuff to not make fun of then it's not joking anymore it's actually in a sense being racist.

You can expect swearing and informality from a casual fun loving type of game. I don't see a problem with it, though I am a bit concerned that some of our players are very young. So I generally tend to watch my mouth unless I know the players in the server.
