Drills are near useless at the moment, only builders can use them and they get overheated by digging 6 blocks.

So how about a upgrade for the drill that can be bought at the buildershop, kind of like the ballista bomb upgrade.

The upgrade will all drills be able to mine a lot more before getting overheated.

    Git gud, m8.

Seriously, drills are awesome. Drills can almost "insta-kill" archers and builders. Also, when I tunnel (God, please forgive me!) and I face an opponent builder it is hilarious to scream "DIE!" and drill him/her to death.

I can understand why you think they should be buffed. After disabling drills for knights and archers it has become something odd but sometimes hilarious. Purchasable upgrade is IMO the wrong way to solve the problem. Maybe, you could make it more fragile and when it breaks it explodes and deals a lot of damage to enemy and friend. Meh, that's just a idea that popped up in my head.

They need to be used as intended, so a nerf to dmg, buff to being a drill.
Coming to a builder with a drill is a death sentence, and it can be put in their inventory.
And as MCrifel said, they become heated soooo quickly that they really aren't worth their price, other than as a slight insta-kill.

@rymcd Tell them how fun it is to utterly destroy knights with drills.

a knight with full health should never die to a builder with a drill because it doesn't stun and you can fall back and charge 2 slashes in their face anyway I love the idea of a purchase to make drills last longer when mining(or indefinitely plz?)

would also make gold more usefull

Does fire dmg, incredible attack speed, and people underestimate builders.
You get the advantage, you get the kill.

knights can just run away and it usually doesn't do fire dmg unless its heated and then its about to burn you aswell

Just wait until Jig posts something. Only reason people use drills in combat is whilst in tunnels, which makes it unavoidable. You've obviously never encountered it as I've seen, and even though only a select amount of people use it, it's still overpowered.

For the cost of 100 stone and 25 gold I think it should definitely last longer. What would be the point of buying a drill if it cuts resource gain in half and also overheats after a few blocks?

Ive seen jiggy be a feking tunneler abunch of times the difference is you don't see things like that outside of gather because the other team wont worry about wasting tickets ect and can do more risky things to kill them anyway a balancing idea would be make them heat up faster on dirt to discourage tunneling(like same heatup after upgrade for mining dirt)

Yeah Jig and Skinney are always carrying drills for use in melee. They're also good for breaching the areas around doors, if not the doors themselves. Drills heat up less while mining constructed blocks and resources fwiw, and I'd like to facilitate tunnelling as little as possible tbh.

It's too bad they couldn't take out back wall or catch things on fire considering it overheats

hitting backwall could be a good addition for sure.

would it still heat up the drill or no? hitting backwall you don't want to and getting the drill heated up would be annoying, though i suppose it could be used as some sort of drill defense

Then maybe the drills could also get a damage nerf?

I don't think they have a big problem with damage as is. They always get overheated to be useful. If they made it so digging through player placed blocks didn't overheat it as much, then you won't see as many drills being used for tunneling. I still don't think they are worth the cost at this point in time.

I'm pretty happy with the balance of drills. I'm not sure if back wall drilling would be fun, annoying, or both. Also you actually can light things on fire with a drill sometimes!

I can kill multiple knights if they're being careless yet its really hard to do more then 2 hearts on someone who's ready for you.
You basically get double damage when it overheats but its for a short burst and you can't even pick it up right away after. Meaning if you fail you'll give your enemy a chance to steal it, Its also really weak and expensive. It also sucks in water, using a pickaxe does more damage at that point. You can also use bucket sprays to cool it down.

I guess I'm saying it already has a lot of fun features to it that help balance it out. Its not really upgrades that I would suggest for a drill. I think the drill needs small fixes if anything.

For example there's a delay on the damage output, this makes drill vs drill combat SUPER CHEESY. Also you can only drill one block in front of you instead of two sometimes and its so awful.
