I had a random idea that instead of dying when you lost all your health the characters instead falls unconscious and will wake up automatically after some time (lets say 20 seconds.)

During this time their body lies on the ground and can be collected and taken back to the tent or a hall for bonus points/coins. (a captured player respawns normally at the end of their timer)
-Additionally a body of a friendly can be carried to the hospital or hall to recover faster.

Bodies can still be destroyed by slashing them and certain methods of death are always fatal, like kegs, collapse, drowning, and saws.

I was just thinking that a big focus of war in the early ages was capturing knights or nobles and ransoming them and I was wondering if this effect could be replicated.

so bassically you are saying that if a knight falls in a simple spike trap he stays down there forever and cant get out? Or maybe get stuck somewhere because of a glitch? no bad idea

There could be a 'respawn at hall' option like how there's a tth option for which hall to spawn at... for cases like those.

Yeah, there already is a suicide option in the menu in case you get your man trapped. Or if your really worried about it, you can add spikes to the list of guaranteed deaths.

Basically a new "incapacitated" status. Sure, why not. The zombies do it already :o)

Also, electrocution, poison, you name it.
