Getting friends on your side

So what's the easiest way to get friends onto the same side on the same server? I'm pretty new to the game but it seemed like something cool we could play while on Skype.

 

You can switch team. And if the team are not balanced, you can't.

 

Press backspace to enter the menu to switch teams, you can only switch if teams are even, or you are switching to the side with less people.

 

Would that work to get 3 people on the same team?

 

Maybe, it depend if the team are balanced or not. If the team are not balanced, you can't do anything to change team.

 

Are there particular servers good for newbies? I've played once and read some of the class guide threads so I guess I'm not a total newbie.

 

Good servers for newbies? I dunno. You can try little server, like 5 v 5.
You just have to play (a lot), and understand your failure, and try to not repeat it.
Read the forum thread, innovate, and don't forget to use the quarter.
