Blizzard's MOBA that was just released into free-to-play open beta today, been playing for a few weeks in the closed beta and can say the game's super fun

The game currently features 39 heroes from Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo (And the Lost Vikings) seperated into 4 main classes (Warrior, Assassin, Support, Specialist) and 8 maps.
Unlike in Dota and LoL, exp that is gained is shared across heroes, and there is no gold/item system but they make up for this with the use of talents that your character gains every few levels which are essentially traits. Games are have a far quicker pace than Dota and LoL as games last at an average of about 20 minutes each. The game also tends to be much easier than other MOBAs but with a high skill ceiling.
Just like other Blizzard games it's played through battle.net, and is about 4GBs.

I've always hated MOBAs but I'll give this one a try since it looks interesting and I can relate to the Blizzard universe. I'll update later with my thoughts.

  3. and with the public beta, QM went to shitters very fast
2/10 Raynors, Nazeebos trapping teammates and people running TLV as a single blob entire game

I guess I should buy more heroes and start playing hero league.

I think after this rotation of free heroes the amount of Nazeebos should drop due to him costing 10000 gold

    Hopefully so.

Quite frankly I've been playing with the /vg/ crowd and Noburu, and have had a splendid time. I won't say it's the best MOBA I've played or the one I've had the most fun in (Dawngate), but it's definitely something I enjoy more than LoL, takes minimal effort to be good, but still I feel like I learn more. The interactions and characters gimmicks are kinda fun, and their interactions with the maps gimmicks are as well.

My battlenet tag/ingame tag is Teleclast#1180 if anyone wants to play together, me and Noburu usually play Fri/Sat/Sun nights (10PM~6PM EST), I also play in the evenings a few days a week (5PM~9PM).

Been playing solo and with friends from college a bit. Enjoying the game a lot, different from other MOBAs out there. Wondering if any of you guys would want to play sometime!

    >Tassadar
    >Easy to play

Hah, that's rich. While I would say he's easy, the amount of newbs who have no idea wtf they're doing with him are too high, especially if they have no moba experience. I played with one yesterday infact, it was terrible, he grabbed bad traits, did no damage, took Archon properly but... never used it properly in fights. At least he didn't take forcewall, had one psuedo-trolling me with it a few days ago, was pitiful.

Valla is pretty squishy to suggest, everyone with any common sense will focus her and if you pick the wrong options you won't get out. They should have just suggested Falstad with AA build.
Repeating Arrow and Caltrops is really a tossup, I tend to go with Caltrops for easier kiting of their tanks, but Repeating Arrow can be good for more dps (will rek your mana though too)

That Tass build feels not so great compared to mana regen lvl 1 and focusing between W/E upgrades, mana problems almost nonexistent, shields still come out well, and you do fatty damage.

Tyrande also would have been a good 'beginner' choice to be honest, if you go with her semi-carry build all you need to do is be around creeps when they die properly and your damage will be on par with the sustained assassins later, while still providing you with a heal, a stun and a line shot. (And good AoD ult)

I'm not great, can't claim to be, but there seems to be a bit that could be fixed with it.

Great tips for the maps though. I hope a lot of people read their piece on blackheart, I hear way too many people bitch about the map, but I have an 82% win rate on it and it's really quite simple if you remember to soak early and keep someone who can properly solo in bot lane (Zagara or Tass are great)

  9. Valla and Tassadar both have extremely good escapes (and the Tassadar build is 1 that gives much more survivalbility).
On the other hand, Fallstad's escape is pretty lame (I don't think he even has access to bolt of the storm), his "mount" is on CD and he's pretty squishy himself. I honestly think that W-build Valla is the easiest hero to play and a good one to teach someone how not to die because of the emphasis on poking.
Skill floor and skill ceiling are different things and while it's very hard to properly use Tassadar to his full potential, I think it's pretty hard to straight up fuck up with him. And I don't really think he has any bad traits at all. They are either very useful or just useful (like MULE for example, which you'd see never picked, but it's not half-bad and I even picked it twice today).

That said, I think the general rule for newbies should just be to stay away from the hard heroes (LTV, Illidian [fucking amount of suiciding Illidians is impossible in this game] and the rest mentioned in the article). In fact the first hero I was actually good with (and probably my best atm) is Brightwing which is supposed to be hard.

oh yeah I have wicked winrates on Blackheart's Bay too, love that map :D

Liking the idea of multiple battlegrounds, more variety in game-play. My favorite battleground would either be Blackheart's Bay, or Dragon Shire. Heroes are quite interesting as well

Likes it much better than LoL or DOTA.
    Commonly played:
    Raynor
-troll enemies from the back with pentatrating round
    -team support with Inspire
    -ult isn't really good
    Tychus
    -vampiric assult
    -melting point
-the lazer drill for control and odin for straight combat
    Sgt. Hammer
    -hover siege (lol)
-invisibility at lvl. 1 (on the Dragon Shire map I trolled so many people by just staying at 1 corner of the temple and siege mode)
    -debris wall for retreat time
    Nazebo
    -death ritual is amazing
-garguantan is useful if you're cool
    -Zombies-Spiders-Frogs-Garguantan-kill

Personally, I like the 'team lvl. up' much better than the traditional LoL lvl. up, and the concept of implement game-changers (the temples, garden terror, all the maps) is revolutionary in MOBAs (I think)
    Cool game!

also breaking the myth of HL having decent players, I've been in multiple teams where it was me on healer, 1 decent pick, 2 specialists (fucking people who pick Abathur or Azmo 1st holy fuck) and Nova

I don't even like AAA games, the ones I've tried for me are interesting experiences but are more frustrating and have no longevity (ex. Portal 2).

I stick with indie games (ex. KAG) because for me they have more longevity and depth for me.

And I adore retro graphics :^)

From the trailers I saw it just looked like a LoL knockoff.

lol League is something <nearly> totally different from HotS, and generically 1 match is only 15 minutes. Why not try?
And I adore retro graphics too :D

1 match is 15 minutes but the download is a lot longer and one match is not even enough to get your dick wet, you need at least a good 100 matches to get a feel for the game, 500+ to get a real good grasp, at that point you might as well keep fucking playing.
*This assumes this is your first MOBA

    Just play DoTA 2 instead.

Yep, I have never played a MOBA and don't plan to saying there are a lot of better, more unique multiplayer team-based games out there. (ex. KAG, Guns of Icarus Online, Of Guards and Thieves)
