as first, paint isnt enough to edit, so first of all download this insane image edit software

    GIMP 2 (image edit software) : http://www.gimp.org/

so after u downloaded it and extracted etc... then open gimp 2, now simple go on data and open the sprites u wanna overwork.

So now u should've the sprites opened with gimp 2 simple go on x800% zoom now and fill the pixels in :)

I downloaded the software 3 days ago and didnt need to read any helpfiles or other stuff, so i guess u'll learn by testing aswell quick!

(posted this cauze some asked, or sayd they dont know how to make sprites, now they have a idea about it)
(feel free to post something better which could maybe used as help for others =)

I think that MS XP Paint is more than adequate for pixel art, especially for beginners.

it wont open the sprite as it should, thats why i sayd with paint it doesnt work.

GIMP 2 is total easy and if u worked once with paint, u can do it with that just better... ^^

What do you mean it wont open sprites as it should? All the files are png which paint is fine for. I agree that paint is more than adequate as well

well when i opened it with paint, i had the problem it auto asigned the white and gray boxes another colour somehow, if u say its also working for you, then they should do it with that aswell.

I always use Paint.NET for less complicated picture stuff. It's doesn't have as much features as Gimp but still it's enough for most uses.

With MS Paint, just take the dropper tool and right-click the color you want transparent. Ctrl+A, Ctrl+V, and in the Selection tool, click on the box

MT Paint is better for spriting, anyway.

You can zoom in much further, work with color palettes and all that

Actually, I'd go with Graphics Gale. It's not free, but that's *cough cough* never stopped anyone from using it before.

I'll stick to Fireworks CS4. Lets me draw in vectors or edit pixel by pixel, plus it lets me be a bit more precise.

For actual art, I'd go with a vector-based editor. For spriting, a bitmap editor. That's just my personal preference, anyway. I'm a mouse guy so I prefer paint for both.

With MT Paint you can zoom in 1600%, and it comes with a grid. That's why I think it's better for spriting.
(MS Paint also comes with one but nobody plays around with the settings these days)

GIMP 2 has all what MT Paint has, it has aswell 1600% zoom and grid, it is like a copy of MT Paint with extended options and the ability to easy implement scripts. its free aswell.

But anyway, everyone use what he prefers to use.

MT Paint was made for spriting, specifically, when Gimp was made for image editing in general. You can set it up for spriting, but-

    Well yeah, personal preferences.

Doesn't everything do that now? Also, Fireworks CS4 = 3200% zoom. But then again it's like $400 or something.

    And yeah, personal preferences.
