I thought that this could be a fun activity just for the heck of it. Could prove helpful too.

If you wanted $700 in pure spending cash in max 7 days, what would you do? You can post any idea no matter how far fetched so long as it has the potential.

    My ideas so far:
Get a second job for a week (that might be exhausting though)
Quick web programming, I've found several companies that post ads online for some quick coding.
Sell cartoons at, or outside of the Stampede grounds (Calgary Stampede is on)
    Sell blood

Reading the topic title I thought this was spam.

    ...You got money problems, hmm?

No actually. No money problems. I'm buying a mac and would love to replenish the money I spent. I would rather run a hackintosh build but my AMD machine can't do it (can't even do HAV for vm). So I have to spend $700 to $1100 just for a machine to run OS X, when I already have a perfectly good machine and laptop at home that have similar specs to imac and Mac Pro. In my opinion, that's a waste because Apple is comprised of a bunch of greedy assholes.

I'm probably not going to get $700 back in a week, but just for the hell of it, thought I'd post the topic as a time waster.

Not good enough. You see, Asian ethnicity is not represent.
This means that the image does not represent a multicultural entity such as myself.

On-topic: what kind of a work would force you to buy computers with brand-inflated prices?

    Maybe iOS development?

This is pretty much the only reason I would consider buying a mac.

I am curious why you need this though.
I am dubious that someone would hire a contractor for iOS work when they don't already have a Mac (and so can be presumed to be inexperienced with iOS development).

So the only other sane option I can think of is your full-time employer needs you to do iOS development. In which case, they should be providing you with the necessary hardware.

I have a Mac, but gave it to my gf to use after her netbook died and I did development before using OS X running on VMWare. However that was buggy and I no longer have the laptop that had HAV. Plus the Mac that I already have is an old Core Duo Macbook. I hate it, and it's too old. It's not even going to be supported by OS X 10.7. Stupid Apple. My employer wants me to finish some iOS projects that were already started. Besides that, I also need it to continue my iOS development for 2 personal projects that got put on the shelf for a few months due to my situation of computer swapping. All I have left to my name at the moment is an AMD rig and an older windows laptop. Neither of which can do OS X via hackintosh method or as virtual image. I wish Apple would have been smart and made OS X be available to the PC market. I wouldn't care if I had to pay as much as a Windows license for it, but something that could run on anything I had. Right now if you want to have a good machine that can natively run both Windows and OS X you have to shell out $2000 to $3000+, which is absolutely ridiculous.

    Okay, I get it now.
    Daaang.

It is kind of a dick move that Apple forces devs to use their products.

    It makes sense though.
I mean you wouldn't develop a game for windows using linux.

If you want to make use of .NET or directX or any of the Microsoft-specific bits and pieces then yep.
However, if you don't want to there are cross-platform alternatives.

And more importantly, there's no hardware lock-in.
(Yes, I know its possible to have OSX on alternative hardware but they sure don't make it easy).

I'm not a big fan of MS but at least they're not as closed off as Apple.
