As most of you will know, through various reasons, the number of KAG players is likely to rise sharply. For some reason a lot of you see this as a bad thing, because they are apparently bad sorts, not listening to direction and respecting the fact that there are other people playing the game etc.

I'd just like to say, please don't react in a hostile manner to these new players. They are just your average gamer most likely, so be helpful where you can. Try to show them just how good our gaming community is.

It is human nature to react negatively to hostiles. Don't make new-comers feel unwelcome. Don't make people turn against us.

So show them what the real KAG community is like, even if you come across someone you disagree with/dislike don't flame or rage at them, remain calm and be a model player :D

If we wan't a bigger better community, lets facilitate one.

I think I played with you Inexorable on the servers.. are you the guy who sort of role plays in game? lol

I like new members coming in. Expands the player base, and well, tons more newbies to gib before they catch onto the game and learn how to play it.

Ha ha thanks, you wouldn't happen to have been one of the player in a recent game (48 players) in which I single handedly won the end game would you?

Because recently my knight skills have definitely improved a lot, and I would consider myself a skilled players.

WOOPS! Going off topic in my own thread.

It's been a give and take day. Earlier I had a lot of awesome noobs who wanted to learn, and the last couple I played dudes didn't listen for shit. I went from having a nice, cordial morning to a brooding, slamming my keyboard evening.

Remember, some people prefer to learn on their own. I did, and I quickly learned what 'griefing' is and how to build correctly. The first time I played I was engineer, and I thought all the buildings around me were to be destroyed.

The good thing is that players who like to learn how things work on their own I think tend to turn out to be better members of the community.

I don't know how true this is. AT LEAST take a little direction from some of the guys that have been around. If you see someone who seems to know what they're doing and are telling you something is wrong, listen. It's fine if you wanna learn on your own, but not at the cost of the game for your team. There IS a single player sandbox mode.

EDIT: The part I have bolded is exactly why you need to do a few things... Read the manual, play the builder tutorial, READ THE BUILDER GUIDE UNDER THE CLASSES AND MECHANICS FORUM, mess around with some structure ideas IN SINGLE PLAYER SANDBOX, and always, ALWAYS take advice from veterans. Please?

I started playing a little over 2 weeks ago. I've got about 60 hours logged so far (I'm addicted). I consider myself a mid range player and I've taken the plunge to buy the game (in part due to some really fun matches I had with bonesauce on jaedazzle).

I'm the kind of person that teaches himself. What do I mean by that? Before I started, I read every piece of material I could get my hands on. The manual. The wiki. Forums. Anything. And then when I played, I picked the knight because it was easiest. Watched during build phases. And generally picked up on everything. Within one night I knew the basics. THAT'S learning by yourself.

Still, joining a server and being a complete noob who knows nothing is alright. But ignoring more experienced players and being a general butt about it is a whole nother. And I've been seeing it a lot lately.

I love that we're getting new players. And I go out of my way to teach whatever I can. But God these matches lately have been driving me mad. What was once a learning experience, watching these skilled guys build impressive forts, is now a painful one. Team killing spike traps, innumerable griefers, people throwing units away. If you're new, take the time to learn the game like I did. Practice. Watch. Learn. Within one night of doing just that you'll be ready to kick butt like the rest of us.
