Is the map deterioration issue going to be fixed?

    I mean, is this issue going to be fixed in the free version of KAG?

    This has been a problem since the very beginning but I have not seen any improvement. In every game I play restart votes start being casted after 30 minutes or so.

    I don't see map deterioration as an issue. More like a feature ;). But I've read somewhere on the forums people talking about dirt regrowing after being dug up.

    In a blog post MM said he wants to try non-vanishing dirt. Ie if you destroy a bloc of dirt, it stays here until you move it away (just like in real life)

    A ridiculous feature. Games are better on flat land, then they get worse and worse.

    This is a issue which is a part of a much broader gameplay question. You can't discuss map deterioration without going much further into issues of balancing, desired gameplay length, intended mechanics, player enjoyment, actual vs intended role of various gameplay elements.

    This issue should be discussed at depth and with the application of liberal amounts of ‼SCIENCE‼. Maybe I'll make a topic about this. Or maybe I'll go make fun of French people some more instead. Who knows.

    From what I know dirt won't be disposable like this. You'll have to pile it somewhere. At least that was the plan.

    There's no reasonable way I can see that dirt deposition can work without a major rewrite of the game. Suppose you die while carrying 300 units of dirt - the 30 blocks of dirt would effectively fall out of your corpse just like stone does now.

    They could immediately expand and blow up of course, filling all available space. Kind of like that dirt gun from Liero or Worms 2D. I think you can imagine griefers would have a field day.

    Then think of it other way around. What if you could carry only 10 blocks of dirt at times?

    Weve got plans to fix the idea more directly than the huge dirt rewrite. I'm not sure when the tweaks will arrive because they require pretty large changes to the map format but theyre coming.

    I've ranted about it elsewhere I think, but no specifics.

    Just this:

    Bombs damage terrain, not destroy it outright.
    Terrain damage system overhaul to use HP not tile values.
    Mining mechanics changed to be less destructive
