Hi, as you can tell by my post count I'm new here.

(Short version: Don't dig pit mines, dig a 2 wide hole straight down for your mines.)

I have seen a lot of builders digging pit mines near the base.
I think this is a bad idea for a number of reasons, and I would like to share my method for mining.
I'm sure some of you may already know about this but I hope it will help some people.

What I do is dig a two wide pit and put a team door and bridge over top. The about six blocks down I add another team door and bridge but reversed to stop archers from shooting you.
This let's our troops go over in and out fairly easily. It also give you some time to escape from tunneling enemies and protects against enemy archers.

I hope this is helpful, if anyone knows of a better way I would like to learn about it.
    I welcome constructive critisism.

Odji: There is no need to make doors and bridges to climb up.
You can press up and left and get out easily.
Usually mines are behind the spawn point, and if the enemy got there, the game is pretty much loss.

This may be useful in battlefield, but I see no point in making a protected mine behind the spawn.
Pit mines allow your team to grap resources fast, so they can go back to the battlefiel as fast as possible.

But if you're digging near to front, I agree with you, making a giant unprotected role on your team way to the battlefield it's not a good idea. It's just I never had problems with that (if you have good pushing you don't need stuff like that, and if you're getting attacked you better mine in safe places.

I'd say that this sort of mining can be turned into a somewhat valid tunnel digging infront of other team's tower.
It gives you protection against a random bomb or two,and you will not get shot up by an archer.

Other than that, why bother with so much defence? It's better to dig safely inside your perimeter, just beeing carefull enough not to turn it into tunnel.

Please keep in mind that while everyone loves the up and left shimmying no one knows if it will stay as it is a bug as part of making characters more than 2 tiles wide/tall

This isn't very applicable for mining behind the base, but I used the idea as inspiration for digging a protective shaft in the lowdown on tunnels thread. Thanks for the idea!
